  1. I wasn't too happy on the finish on the first underseal. It came out a bit smooth. Admittedly I thinned the product down to put through the gun. The product was normally used to brush on. I tried a different product and left it a bit thicker to give it that true rough underseal look. Chassis rails and inner gaurds got a thick coating, then I gave the previous areas a quick flick. Came out heaps better this time. Was probably laying it on a bit heavy because I went through 6L's. Ha. I learned my lesson of not wearing a face mask the first time round. That shit sprayed everywhere. Last night I was looking around for something to cover my face. Glasses? not enough coverage. Full saftey shield? Bit tricker in small areas. Stockings and masking tape? Bingo.

  2. Had to fight for over an hour to get the second light out of the l/h mould. I was willing to sacrifice my $20 light to save the mould. Below is the remains of the light. Also my aliexpress carbor fibre turned up today, man you have to be careful not to open up the weave! Will find out if I have managed to make a thing or if I have wasted a bunch of time and have zero to show for it. this is just 2 layers of cf and budget polyester resin. It went off a bit too quick for my liking probably because it was pretty hot in my shed this afternoon.. I'm pretty confident it won't be great on the finished side but may be salvageable.

  4. This morning we met up with a older fella who had got in contact with me via Oldschool. He has a Sunbeam imp. Very tidy little car fitted with a later Talbot 930 engine . Took it for a spin. First time I have driven an Imp since Hannah had hers in 2002. I had forgotten how fun they are to drive and its was just the inspiration I needed to crack on with finishing my project...

  6. Long time no update! Well after my last post i'll be honest and say the van pretty much sat outside the shed for a good 6 months. Summer was basically over and motivation was low to carry on with the work needed to get it road legal. But wind back a couple of months ago and I cracked back into it, finishing off little things, getting the pop top attached properly and repairing the front brakes (now new parts throughout). Trailered it down to VTNZ and Restorations Unlimited for the repair cert, back another time for recheck and as of yesterday the Hiace is now 100% road legal! managed to retain the original black plates which i'm real stoked about to. Now that it's legal i'll be getting stuck into the rear fit out which so far the plan is to have the kitchen out the back door and seat/table/bed all accessed through the slider door. Also need to wet sand and buff the paint job, few spots I got a little hazy over spray and a couple bits have a bit to much orange peel.

  7. My tractor hood is bare steel painted with penetrol and it's held up very well for months (MTBE close to 6?)outside in the elements! My tractor guards are bare metal painted in penetrol and look perfect as been kept in garage ( a damp garage) Penetrol is thinner than water and wicks through dirt, rust and seams unbelievably well.. i think thats far better than any sort of thicker product that just sits on top. Also.. its cheap and available from bunnings.

  8. I was out for a solo sunday cruise and about 5 k's down the rd an oil warning light illuminated in the dash.... Initial reaction of course was to check the oil pressure gauge which was reading plenty... even though its the original gauge i thought i'd better turn the old girl off and due the usual important checks. Im vigilant with oil level and check it prior to starting it up each time. I was confident this wasnt the issue but checked anyhow. Dipstick still on Full and no visible leaks to be sighted. Nothing on the road. No wires disconnected that could cause the light to shine. Being that the pressure was perfect prior to shutting it down, i held my breath and started it again. No light, so thought i'd better high tail it home just in case. No sooner had I put it into gear the light came back on. Strange I thought being I had full pressure again. Once I got it home in the garage I thought id do another check on plugs and wiring. Again no visual issue. I drained the oil, removed the oil level sensor and gave it a thourough clean up, scratched my head at how it worked and continued to throw a meter on it. Took a couple of prods but worked out the current path... seems it uses the oil some how as a current path?? Not really sure as we use oil in trasformers as an insulator and for cooling. Any how... turns out theres no continuity when the cable is wiggled, so i'm assuming theres a breakdown in the cabling. Jumped on the internet... again. And searched. Ended up locating a part number off a japanese website and searched on amayama, and to my luck. Ordered one from Japan. I thought i'd post some pic's for interest sake, I hate pictureless updates so thought id better include. Seems one problem gets fixed, and another rears its ugly head. Oh the joy!!

  11. Man I almost missed the engine jamming out too hard to those sick beats! I wonder if Kelford would be able to regrind the standard cams to an even more aggressive profile? I'm glad I bought the DE engine first now so I can swap in the reportedly superior valve train components.

  12. I think the general concensus among enthusiasts is that they are safe to 8000. After that the oil pump will struggle to keep up flow (for long periods in race cars that is) and anyway- power falls away beyond 7k so not much point. The stock hydrulic followers will also pump up. The last G4 engines had solid lifters to cope ( although I already know that you have been nerdy enough to learn all this just like the rest of us K seres geeks Certainly the rod ratio and block/crank stiffness would allow far higher revs if cam profiles allowed. I remember reading about a fella who started building a k8 that was going to have a 12k redline... but he gave up due to cam costs etc. Most who race them anywhere after 8k rpm run external pumps. There is also this, one of my most watched vids. Fuck me this car sounds so angry and I do love it so...

  15. Yeah Trailtech the world. Im running a Ali X round led tallight and some unknown rectangular headlight with a 12v bulb and my trailtech has kept those bad boys strumming hard for a solid 2500km now. Even with all the engine vibrations and what not. Running 4 trailtechs on 4 bikes and have yet to have a issue with lighting

  16. When I picked the car up, the bloke said he'd done a bit of work on it. New air filter, clutch etc. He reckoned it took weeks to source an air filter And I remembe a bloke on here imported a white 12a turbo rx7 and had a hard time finding an air filter for it. I vaguely remembered he located a K&N unit, and it having a part number so I searched and found his build post. Located the part number and went on a goose chase to source one. After 3 week delivery from the u s of a......

  18. Kephos is just xylene and phosphoric acid. Xylene is a high end solvent that fucks off while you wait. Breathing it after its evaporated makes you feel not so good Brian.

  19. Definitely won’t upset me. I’ll be jealous of the fuel economy tbh. If it’s the 155z one I’ll also be jealous of the cubes.

  21. Gonna use this guy The fist part is a similar size to what is left of the mount, gonna weld a plate in there and tap some holes to screw the light to, might even use some glue as the screws are pretty small, m3/4 I think. What kinda trouble are your lights having?

  23. Just gave it a try on our loan car. Don't need to hold the button down, a quick push will do, and it'll apply it at any speed. The dash starts flashing at you telling you to release it again, but it doesn't override it.

  24. Fuck EGR. The Euro's are going to hot EGR. will see how that goes ( so no cooler etc) Still, fuck EGR. Aftertreatment is a pain in the ass, but i can deal with it. because its after the engine. this bullshit that poisons the whole motor when it fails can burn in hell.

  25. EGR can go to hell. I reckon about 2/3rds of CRDs I deal with with running faults have been because of the EGR, either failing and jamming wide open, or just gumming up the intake with thick oily carbon crud. Fuck EGR.

  28. Great success on the water this weekend! Did a couple of laps around the bay, initially she was running rich so dropped the needle down in the carb. Power picked up a lot after leaning the mixture. Goes mint for a little engine, had three guys in the dinghy and towing two other guys in Kayaks, moved along ok. Went out to a fishing spot and caught a Kawai. Smoked it for dinner. Success.

  29. haha, Should see what it looks like now with the final layer!! (will save pics until i have done the other half) I did the last half out of the car. I just wanted to make sure nothing warped for the first few layers. Also. You should see my garage floor under where i do this.. Its like there was a circle of asian men and my trolley was a school girl.

  30. Bit more progress today. Got some misc parts cleaned up and painted. Started building and mocking up the intake manifold, all looks good until mocked up against the engine.. Someone has put a damn Distributor in the way! also the carbs are very wide and ports on head are very narrow and close together. I think I will need to shave off the linkage and bosy of one of the carbs to make enough clearance to squeeze a throttle linkage in and clear the distributor cap. Sorry I have no pics of this.
