  1. Oh yeah and old great uncle Lin had taken the head off around 1988 to fix the spark plug threads (apparently pretty common/easy to cross thread) dont know why but he never put it back together after installing helicoils? He died early 2000s so it’s been sitting in a shed for 30yrs, so there’s a bit of work to do gave it a couple of washes today and wheeled it into the car port will start making some room in the shed to store all the bits/sort out if all the motor bits are present

  2. So late last year we got a call to go visit my wife’s uncle who was on his last legs Sister in law was trying to sell me one of his boats... yeah na how about a big D..... wife and I had been looking for a wagon, but as this one was the one she used to get driven around in as a kid and it was bought brand new by her great uncle figured why not he ended up dying and we had to wait for probate to do its thing fast forward to today and it’s just been delivered DiscussT

  3. I finished the homemade red bike, goes relay well, no shortage of power, motor is a strong runner, still needs a rear brake cable, I have a wooden seat but needs foam and a cover, This frame was built for a Villers 2 stroke and the frame rail was in the way for mounting the B&S but I had the remains of a Masport rotary hoe and whacked off the engine mount witch is adjustable, worked out perfect for this bike to get the engine offset and for adjusting the chain. If anyone comes across a B&S V twin horizontal shaft motor I would be keen for the next project.

  5. so they wee ST went bloody grouse on the east cape ride, i was surprised at how capable it was at full nang on gravel. used a bit of oil, started leaking a bit of oil out of the base gasket, found a few false neutrals and had the dogs slip in 3rd a couple of times, probs time for an oil change. didnt have any major dramas until about 15km from the finish all the spokes on one side of the rear wheel let go, making for an interesting dismount unsure what to do from here in, the tyre choice for 14" wheels is shit, what i have is really the only dual sport type tyre avail in NZ, and after 700kms its completley fucked anyway, and really i want something wider on the rear, heaps of full knobblies available but not what i want for this bike. i was kinda keen to sell it, but its actually really lush to ride, so im thinking maybe strip the wheels, powdercoat the rims black, new chrome spokes and run 14" wider road / scoot tyres for a supermoto type look, thoughts?????? think ill pull the engine back out now and slam it in the trombone for summer anyway, and do the wheels on the ST when i have the fucks to give, and probably pull the lifan 150 apart and fix the selector forks / dogs and wang than back in it. kinda over spannering too much at the moment.

  6. Done abit more.. finished blocking back the roof n continued to sand jams with 320 grit. Sprayed all the rub thrus with some epoxy primer. Decided to tackle the engine mounts to have a break from sanding. It needed doing before paint anyway as i scratched the firewall getting motor in. All trimmed up. Will grab the welder again tomorrow and tack it n my mate will weld them in for me as hes a much better welder than me! Cheers

  11. Great work - my boss was a Citroen specialist in Christchurch years ago. If you get stuck im sure help is just around the corner. I helped sort his DS21 Pallas last year before he sold it - they are not a complicated as you think and are actually fun to drive (especially on 3 wheels lol) Pics for inspiration

  14. Thats exactly why I've ruled out Megasquirt. Theres a 'uuuuge community online of MX5 owners that run megasquirt, even people that build custom boards tailored to exactly what fellow hairdressers need. These are usually priced very competitively too. Unfortunately if you ask about them on the nz mx5 facebook pages you'll find that theres only really a couple of people in NZ that bother to tune them, and theres a lot of people with blown motors who wouldnt recommend going to said tuners after learning the hard way.

  16. I'd have thought that front wings should not be too hard to find here. I'll keep a look out up this way. Same goes for some decent enough arch sections for the rear. Not that hard to let in either as the steel is good on Vivas and that HC arch shape holds well.

  20. Explored some more roads of Banks Peninsula with a couple spare hours last Sunday. Kaituna Valley and McQueens Valley then finished off with Gebbes Pass and Port Hills summit rd. Bike ran like a dream but had discovered that im gonna need to wear earplugs when riding because the deafness is starting to hurt when finished riding. LOUD PIPES LOOK RAD

  21. I rigged up this gross brake inspired by the design disasters thread. Amazingly it works blindingly well bringing it to a screeching halt with little effort.

  23. Day 3 was a early start so we could go check out the East Cape Lighthouse. Really fun road there and got some cool shots of the bike in its element

  24. Day 2 was alot of fun with the detour forestry road. Lots of slippery mudd and good times chasing others. Once back on the sealed roads leaving Tolaga Bay my carb started to stutter again. A quick carb clean on side of road with Regen @64valiant and @My name is Russell and I was moving again at pace using Regens 200cc slipstream to take me over 100kmhr and smash some Kms catching up to the pack. Got me to TeAroroa and I parked the bike up and chilled for the night before a early start

  25. Once arrived in Papamoa we chilled for a hour or so then unloaded the bikes and headed into the Mount for a perv. Then went to see @MopedNZ at his work . Had a lot of looks while riding around the mount and settled on a nice bar on the main street where we drank Heinikens and ate a bloody nice Seafood platter. Then @64valiant & Rueben turned up and enjoyed a beer with us before we rode of to our Hosts bike workshop for a perv at Jetskis and New KTMs. Then we had a real good thrash on some back roads from Tauranga to @HighLUX place and then a quick ride back to Papamoa warehouse for some wetweather gear and bbq supplies for tea that night. Bikes were packed back up on truck for short journey east to @johnnyfive place for the start of the EastGape ride

  26. Well quite alot has happened to this in the 3 weeks since I got it on the road and running. First of all It ran well without issue but wasnt happy with top speed. After speaking with the main man @BLIZZO he kindly lent me a 22mm Carb to replace the 19mm that came with the motor. All jetted to suit my motor. So I bolted it on and it ran like a dream and instantly gained 13km top end which puts it around 95kmhr. I was happy as Larry and 1 week out from having to load it onto the truck to head north for East Gape I started smashing shakedown Ks. In 8 days I put close to 1000 trouble free Kms. I was happy. The day before loading it up was the Smash Palace bike show so I gave it a clean and polish and with the new seat from my mate Josh Cook it was looking a million bucks. Got some good feedback from people at the show liking the subtle mods and the colour choices. Next day I rode out to Rolleston to load bike up and got a punture. Craft knive blade end into the tyre. So quickly changed the tube out and loaded it up. We left Christchurch midday wednesday and arrived in Papamoa 930am on Thursday. Here is a photo pre loading up

  28. Did a little bit of work, threw a ‘49cc’ 4 stroke engine in it for reliability and a few other bits I had kicking around / purchased. sent the wheels and a whole bunch of other bits to @Mr Vapour to make them shiny (15/10 stoked would trade again) then assembled into this ready for East Cape

  29. Its been a busy week! What felt like forever sanding back the car but managed to sand out alot of imperfections/stone chips. Laid down some epoxy primer. Let it dry for couple days then started to bog it. Turns out my old 3m bog is so difficult to sand it just kept clogging up the sand paper on the block and the DA so brought some new repco stuff and is alot easier to work with it seems. Ofcourse i only found out after bogging it all up and took half a day to sand back. Most likely a mixture of shit bog and user error Got sick of sanding by this stage so called it a day. Cheers

  30. Alright, starting to see what we’re dealing with now. There’s some misery involved but nothing a washed up sparky can’t tackle? I hope Some recent pics; dropped (literally) the rear bumper, shit weighs so much the car actually raised about 2” when I removed it The old 390 under the hood seems to run alright (once I corrected the last owners attempt at getting the firing order right) it does breathe a bit but hey, it’ll work for booze trips The RHD “conversion” is pretty NZ-in-the-60s spec. Custom dash pad, fascia has just been turned upside down, brake booster is still on the left hand side etc, looks good from 10 feet though There’s 4 patches to be done in the floor. The whole body has thick textured sealant on it and for the most part it’s worked and probably the only reason this car still exists. She lived in Cambridge for 40 years or so and was daily driven a lot from what I’m told. Isn’t exactly Arizona in the Waikato So yeah anyway floor repairs are up first, then some rear quarter work....in the next episode

  32. Small update! Brought some epoxy primer. Hi build primer prepsol ect to crack on with it Still undecided on paint but i have chosen 2 colours in test pots for now. Left is suppose to be factory crown colour it is an updated colour which was updated back in 2012. Its "e8t midnight blue" which is this. To me it looks lighter tho and more like this wagon. And one on right is "ford impact deep blue" Removed the doors and cleaned up the jams a little need to sand it back a shitload more but will make a start tomorrow. Windscreens due to come out friday night. Sandy sandy sandy. Fucking yay.

  34. Break in time after a dyno. Came in at 21hp with a solid amount of toque. Pretty happy with that. Scooter rally in 2015 and first run on the new build. Left from Wellington with a loop around the central north island. Day 1, 50kms from start line and team mate had a good seize. Team down to 3. Came across this shop, and this old legend ( I think his name was Bill?) let us use a bunch of his tools and talked for hours. Some amazing bikes stashed in side, well worth a look if you are in Upper Hutt. Open carbs and gravel roads... Great pub though. Late night re builds. Buddy crashed on the way into Waiouru, went on to fix his bike and continue. Gentle Annie road from Waiouru to Naiper was awesome, such a fun road. Finish line in Wellington. Very exhausted after the 1600km. Stoked on how well the untested bike went! Took a while to clean all the grim off it! Fresh coat of tyre paint too More to come if you are still following...

  35. Now for the expensive part! All happening around 2 months before the next scooter rally. Nothing like a deadline to get stuff done... Frame stripped, some extra support welded on known weak points and then off to HPC This was the start of a lot of online shopping and spending money at HPCoatings... Also sleepless nights trying to decided on colour ways for it. I went for a strange old Alfa Romeo GTV colour called Yellow Ochre or AR112. Still a bit unsure as to why I chose this colour after all, oh well it is certainly different. Pretty sure the paint shop also tinted it a bit differently... Panels stripped ready for the paint to go down Expensive bits coming in thick and fast, new big block engine casings, fancy front shocks, digital speedo with fuel sensor, rev counter and cylinder head temp sensor, 30mm Mikuni TMX carb. Time for the engine build. I couldn't have done this with out the help of my mates. A mate Ben spent many late nights helping me out with this build and has an amazing attention to detail when it comes to building anything, especially 2strokes! Great workshop too... I went a bit overboard on this but aim was to make a fast reliable scoot. I went with a kit AFrayspeed TS1 225 kit, mild porting, high comp cylinder head, larger crank, clubman exhaust, AF touring clutch with race springs etc. Side casing going together New 52mm crank installed Parts coming back from the painter in my interesting new colour... To top off my indecisive paint choice I went with this slate blue colour for the rest of the components... Front end going together, disc brake and the new shocks Engine closed up and in the frame Glove box, long range tank, carb and rear guard going on All new cabling and electrics BGM clubman exhaust fitted Rob's bike also getting a TS1 kit and a bunch of go fast bits at the same time. I think all four from the team had their bikes in pieces at this stage First ride! Jetting not 100% but it went awesome! Off to get dyno'd shortly. Scooter rally was only a few days away. What better way to break in a new 2-stroke than 1600km at full throttle? To be continued...
