So the East Cape Escapade has been and gone and the little FS1 did quite well. I was able to keep pace with much bigger bikes in most areas (100-110cc). It was hella fun to ride and a great little bike to learn how to do gravel skids / not fall off. Started off by riding to @Archetype’s place on Thursday morning. Friday morning in Opotiki: Up on the Motu road: towards Rere falls: I only earned one ride in @MaxPower‘s rescue trailer due to a dodgy spark plug cap... this case right for the afternoon once everything dried out, but became a problem again in the morning... Thanks to @datlow for hanging with me and helping to find the issue. We limped to Repco and grabbed a new cap to get hooning again. Oh, and whoever put this in my wheel deserves a beer. It lasted all the way from our Saturday stop point until the end of the mission! The wee engine did sustain some damage though... I had a couple of gentle seize events on Saturday during sustained WOT application. It didn’t stop me for too long, but I was curious about how bad it might be. So I was down on a few compressions - it was a wise choice to nang gently for Sat afternoon and Sunday. Should be right with a bit of a clean up!9 points

I have been working on my handlebars lately, decided I wanted something narrow. These bars from aliexpress arrived a while back Too wide, so cut up and tacked onto one of the TM adapter plates. The idea was to have the engine as the widest part of the bike (not counting footpegs) so the new bars are about 28cm, this might decrease too if I decide to shorten the ends a bit. Then @Steelies engineering tig'd them up nice for me A bit of paint Noice9 points

Then arrived back in Christchurch 6pm on Monday. Unloaded my bike. Loaded my gear back onto the rack and rode 20km back home again. Have just washed the bike. Tensioned and lubed the chain. Cleaned out carb and air filter and now im riding it to work tonite. Fucking hands down my favourite bike build so far. Reliable as ever and have already got plans in next week or 2 to explore the southern bays of Banks Peninsula and in Feb the Molesworth Station rd from Seddon to Hanmer5 points

Day 2 was alot of fun with the detour forestry road. Lots of slippery mudd and good times chasing others. Once back on the sealed roads leaving Tolaga Bay my carb started to stutter again. A quick carb clean on side of road with Regen @64valiant and @My name is Russell and I was moving again at pace using Regens 200cc slipstream to take me over 100kmhr and smash some Kms catching up to the pack. Got me to TeAroroa and I parked the bike up and chilled for the night before a early start4 points

Once arrived in Papamoa we chilled for a hour or so then unloaded the bikes and headed into the Mount for a perv. Then went to see @MopedNZ at his work . Had a lot of looks while riding around the mount and settled on a nice bar on the main street where we drank Heinikens and ate a bloody nice Seafood platter. Then @64valiant & Rueben turned up and enjoyed a beer with us before we rode of to our Hosts bike workshop for a perv at Jetskis and New KTMs. Then we had a real good thrash on some back roads from Tauranga to @HighLUX place and then a quick ride back to Papamoa warehouse for some wetweather gear and bbq supplies for tea that night. Bikes were packed back up on truck for short journey east to @johnnyfive place for the start of the EastGape ride4 points

Well quite alot has happened to this in the 3 weeks since I got it on the road and running. First of all It ran well without issue but wasnt happy with top speed. After speaking with the main man @BLIZZO he kindly lent me a 22mm Carb to replace the 19mm that came with the motor. All jetted to suit my motor. So I bolted it on and it ran like a dream and instantly gained 13km top end which puts it around 95kmhr. I was happy as Larry and 1 week out from having to load it onto the truck to head north for East Gape I started smashing shakedown Ks. In 8 days I put close to 1000 trouble free Kms. I was happy. The day before loading it up was the Smash Palace bike show so I gave it a clean and polish and with the new seat from my mate Josh Cook it was looking a million bucks. Got some good feedback from people at the show liking the subtle mods and the colour choices. Next day I rode out to Rolleston to load bike up and got a punture. Craft knive blade end into the tyre. So quickly changed the tube out and loaded it up. We left Christchurch midday wednesday and arrived in Papamoa 930am on Thursday. Here is a photo pre loading up4 points

Then coming down into a valley between bays I got the gas stutter and ran out of fuel. Pulled over. Removed helmet and vest and pushed the bike over 2 hills before getting onto the flat where there was a motorcamp. I pushed the bike to the office and pushed the buzzer and a old boy came out and I explained my problem and he was more than happy to help with a couple litres of fuel from his tinny fuel tank. I was back on the road and came across Aaron the next bay over pushing his bike. Explained what just happened to me and that ive got enough fuel to get me to Opotiki and I grabbed his empty can under my arm and I rode to Opotiki and filled up and heading back to the boys by which time everyone had been fuelled up and was heading west again. All was well and we loaded up back at J5s for a group photo before hitting the road for Wellington3 points

Leaving the Rere Falls I popped a sick wheelies and slammed down too hard on my AliX foot peg mount and gave it a tweak to the point my side stand wouldnt work so upon arrival to Gizzy rode to @Raizer place for use of his vice to straighten the mount and a quick carb clean to remedy a stutter a few hours earlier.3 points

More sanding. Bogging.. blocking. I want to finish this and then have a break from the bodywork and start trimming these engine mounts. Picked up engine crane the other day ready for it. Still gotta block back one at bottom of guard.. Were a couple of little imperfections all blocked out now tho Made a start on blocking back roof again. Trusty crane. Cheers3 points

Little bit more progress plus I sorted out all my parts tonight of what I definitely won't use and what I "might" use. The box of "might" use is quite small now so need to decide whether I'm going to paint it or keep it ratty for summer. Probably ratty for summer. Make sure everything works and pull it apart in winter for a tidy rebuild.3 points

Yeah man, could be a good excuse just to pest about with you, Sandy and @GuyWithAviators etc the weekend before. Hitting Auckland the next week, locked in accommodation this afternoon otherwise would have made it work!2 points

After finding out it ran pretty decent I decided to strip it down. Didn’t take any pics but the water galleries around the cylinder were caked with rust flakes. Managed to remove it all with a screw driver. Looked like old coffee grinds coming out of it. So much! Also pulled apart the gearbox down by the propeller which had a 50/50 mix of grease and water in it. Replaced it with gear oil and closed it back up. Made a new throttle cable from a bit of cable I had sitting round. Oh yeah paint.. Lol Got some blue 2k base coat and added holographic glitter to the clear for a laugh. Looks like a 90’s show car but shines mint in the sun. Wasnt even sure the glitter would come through the gun but yip it definitely did!1 point

New bearings and seals acquired. There was a shit-ton of grease in the hubs when I took them off. Much less went back in. The ball bearings have a spacer between the sets (the cone shaped doo-dad.) All back together I set the toe-in and went for a test drive with the Morris Enthusiasts club today. So, should be good for a new WOF eh? Will find out week after next.1 point

Had a blast driving from Hanmer.. Just out of Lumsden I managed to hit the factory reset on the odometer. On inspection oil the total loss oil system that developed, I found the bolts holding the fuel pump were planning a trip down the road.. as we're a few of the sump bolts. Tightened them up and sprayed around some Motomuck.. clean as. Mrs is picking up a headlight for me today to bring down tomorrow.. neat. The brake imbalance issue I want to try and rectify by swapping to escort M16 calipers.. the spare calipers I have for this are junk, bores are pitted and the pistons are gouged to he'll. So if anyone has a working pair of calipers, please send them my way. I know they bolt on, and only need an adaptor as the esky is metric and the hunter lines are imperial, or the other way round..1 point
