  1. Fuel pump works! I'm fairly confident I haven't hit the power band yet, it's running 6x6g rollers so I'll swap them out for something a bit lighter and see if that wakes it up! Still just a touch rich I think, that's with a 95mj in there but I don't want to go leaner until after I get the RPM up. Before I carry on tuning I am going to rework the headpipe on my exhaust, the Malossi cylinder puts the flange a little bit further forward and I'd made the exhaust around a stock cylinder so it was a super tight fit/struggle to get it on this engine! Also it just fouls the trim panel that sits in front of the engine over bumps etc. And the thin Chinese pipe flange bends before it seals so I'll cut a new one to suit out of some 5mm plate and zap it on. Think I'm on the right track with it now, should be fairly rapid for a heavy pig once it's all dialled in!

  3. ready for pickup & booked in for wheel alignment Front suspension rebuild, bushes, ball joints, steering components, super low springs, shocks etc. though doesn't look as low as i thought. though im told they'll "settle in" Only got the front lowered, will see how it goes. will do the rear myself as it should be straight forward if need be... at best, it sits even now. not the high front. perhaps the rear springs are shagged and need resetting? Oil leak fixed from engine rebuild. apparently was the oil pump. no more leaks! Got the standard tyres white striped earlier in the year too. Haven't put then on yet, should look good Happy summer cruising.

  4. Been fairly busy recently so progress on this has been slow but I have a couple of photos of some things to share with everyone. What seems like an eternity ago Ned talked me into buying a 3D printer off Aliexpress, so that is exactly what I did, I ordered and paid for one Anet A6 3D printer and for some reason two arrived in the mail.... WHOOP. I then set about having a crash course on how to make it make things as I wanted to be able to print the above intakes myself rather than chew up someone elses recreational time. The above model showed one entire bank all joined as one piece, I broke that model into 3 so that it is actually printable given the size/speed of the printer, basically now they are paired so it is one manifold per carb. Because Ned had already printed the earlier version of the intakes for the front two cylinders on the right hand bank I decided to have a go at printing the middle two cylinders, this time as a single joined unit, hoping that my measurements were right. What you see in the next photo took NINE AND A HALF HOURS. I've since learnt that if I print the models upside down from what you see above it takes approx 2 hours off the print time, I think mainly from the need for less support structure. Good to know seeing as there are 5 more to go.... Anyway, chopped all the support structure off (what a prick of a job) and was left with this Now, the big question was, will it fit? is that joining bar the right length???? Hoorah! Next I put the earlier prints on the front 2 cylinders and chucked some carbs on with some appropriately sized bolts to locate the holes to get a feel for where it's going Next I want to print the other 5 'paired' intakes which, after knocking 2 hours off the print time for each one and having 2 printers running simultaneously should only take about 22 hours...fun and games.

  5. I've been riding my newly made goped around for about a week now...goes awesome, not too loud, quite fast, reliable... yada yada yada... So then inspired by getting back on this goped, I dug out my other two that were buried behind a mountain of shit in my shed... no easy task. Holly fuck they're fast! It's been so long since I've ridden them I truly forgot just how insane the power band is, I nearly flipped it first go! The red one (pictured in the middle) is geared lower and has a brutal transition between slow and hold the fuck on! The blue one pulls like a school boy from slow right up to warp speed, but is far smoother to ride. In a straight line the blue one is fastest.

  6. Trailer Time I've been wanting to build my own car trailer for Project Alan Mann for quite some time. With my old work closing down I managed to cut a whole lot of scrap mild steel out of the brewery to recycle into a trailer. My racecar is full of race holes so the trailer must match A long day on the holesaw ahead ! The start of the trailer base and draw bar setup Bit of welding on the drawbar Lots more to go yet !

  8. Then after much fettling I glued it in. And made the bit with the step in it to fill the gap. I made this in two parts otherwise I don't know how I would do the step. I didn't bother grinding the welds down completely, since they won't be seen, I did tidy some of them up a little.

  11. In true oldschool fashion we ended up helping tow my friend's Rota home which was on the way to the meet. By the end of the escapade we had 8-9 cars on the side of the road as people were pulling up to see what all these cars were doing. Almost ended up bigger than the oldschool meet, ha!

  12. Been dialing in the suspension. almost getting to the point that need to re-valve the shocks to go any further. basically been messing with the spring preload and switch over to the 2nd spring rate. best results so far have been setting the rear soft as possible spring wise and also softening up the hydro bumps, gone from 90psi to 50psi. Then on front have it switching to the 2nd spring rate with only 20mm travel from ride height which also stops it rolling so much. so far im thinking it needs more compression valving in the front. bit of a learning curve to figure it all out. still having a nose dive issue. my jump at the end of the vid sucks, which isnt helping the cause. can see in the vid if hold it tapped it works a little better. try roll the jump does a sweet nose dive. seems to go over the first bump fairly nice. gearing kinda sucks and have a massive leak in the inlet manifold which isnt helping the cause. / need bigger paddock side effect of less pressure in bumpstops. that tuck

  14. So after working on This car for longer than I care to admit, I've had a slight change of plans. Discuss Managed to pick up this genuine sport that'd just been painted so made sense to grab that and put the motor / wheels / box / other sexy bits I've been building up in that, and finish it instead. If anyone knows any history about the car, or has any old photos of it that would be awesome How it looked when I picked it up Starting the tear down process Sorting out the wheels and guards Paneling the engine bay

  15. Working on the brakes. It has a huge drum in the rear and a disc up front. May as well make use of what's there...so here goes: This random selection of bits I found/made should almost do it. Should be becoming clearer now So a cable will go around the groove in the "roller" on the bolt. The other bolt has a 3mm hole in it and the cable will double through it and once tightened should lock the cable. More pics later.

  16. Right, change of plan for me, I’m going to head out a bit earlier than planned so I can go for some proper adventuring but if anyone else was planning on meeting up at 12 to head out, by all means please still do that. See you out there!

  17. FInally some decent progress! I now have cam sorted, solid lifter gear, beehive valve springs, larger valves, new retainers, spring seats, intake ports taken out to ~40mm and changed the port for better flow etc - All of this would not be possible if it wasn't for @ToMitz so a huge thank you goes out to him!

  28. Long time no update etc. Now that I live in Canada I've been doing a bit of shopping from North American sellers, and will eventually send it all home to NZ in the future. Have bought: - Whiteline 26mm adjustable rear sway bar - Evo 8 AFM, Injectors, ECU, loom adapter and plug in tablet to update the fuel management side - HKS elbow + refurbished throttle body with new seals that has been bored out to 63mm - Evo 9 Bilstein front and rear struts - AMG grille and new Depo orange corner indicators

  29. After a long harsh winter of no progress it's finally back on the ground. New coilovers, steering rack, RS hubs, track arms, RS tie rod ends, sway-bar bushes all fitted in the weekend. Should be able to get it really nice and low once the engines in and the coil-overs are wound down... looks like the tyres are gonna rub though so will likely need to swap them. The alloy RS hubs stick out about an inch further than the standard ones. This means the next step is getting the motor back in... which might even happen before Christmas. Finally more steps forward than back!

  30. The evolution of my no electricity espresso machine for the bus; V1 - I had to use a camping stove to heat this one due to the height of the mini keg I used as a pressure vessel. This was fine apart from it sounded like a rocket for the duration of the heating; V2 is a lot sexier, I used the top of the mini keg cos it had all the fittings ready to go. This is a standard 115mm to 76mm SS pipe adaptor and some 76mm pipe. I still need to sort the sealing on the steam wand a wee bit but it works pretty well on a gas stove top...

  32. Then I kind of got in the zone and forgot to take pictures...oppps? But I made: -An adapter for the air filter -Cut up an RC car expansion chamber and made it fit this application. -And machined up some fiddly little stuff to adapt the carburetor to take a cable, as the original was driven by a RC servo. I fitted a deck and other bits left over from past goped projects. Replaced all the old fuel lines with new. Pulled the starter...brommm brommmm...yeah buddy, success!!!!

  33. Yes, in the pickups the back is fun. Fiat DOHC is very good engine unfortunately not very popular in Poland. ( now, once is very popular ) I prefer carburettor, but EFI in daily car is good choice. ( if it's 125p yours daily car ). I see your other cars, it's very nice! In this moment I have 2 Polonez, model Caro Plus MR. ( model of year ) '97 1.6 with single point injection ( germany efi bosch ) and MR '89 made in 1990 with carburettor, both with 5 speed gearbox of course. I think that not enough interesting cars and modifications in order to present in this forum. Now is very popular is k series Rover swap engines ( originally in Polonez Caro MR '94 and Polonez Caro Plus MR '97 in option ). Thanks for the answer. Take care! P.S I add foto one of my car ( green Polonez '90 ) , and engine 1.4 k series from Rover in Polonez Caro MR '94 and Fiat 125p ( not mine car ). I would like to mention that your car is not Polski Fiat, but FSO 1500 or 125p as you prefer, because the license has expired in 1983. All copies of the 125p, lost the name Fiat after 1982. In foto white Fiat you look old logo Polski Fiat. You have logo FSO.

  34. Great progress with front end coming together! The original firewall was creased so the recess,s on the red section needed to be transferred to the new fire wall section. It would appear these were introduced to late Mk 1 for Mk 2 production as my 65 GT doesn't have them. Front end back together after all separated parts repaired or fabricated new.All parts blasted and all inner box sections painted in 2k black and all flanges zinc primed. Will also be using panel bond on some of the areas prone to corrosion for extra protection and strength.Looking at moving on to windscreen panel repairs next and have complete front end mocked up, guards, bonnet etc.

  39. Excellent progress happening on the front end. All stripped and ready to go to the blasters and then the big reassembly. Everything as far as possible will be spot welded as per original and all internal cavities treated so it won't ever rust again in my lifetime. One of the A pillars was still all factory untreated steel inside from 50 years ago. No wonder they all used to rust bigtime. Sills are all done and come from the 4 door we chopped up ages ago. These have been modified with the correct 2 Door drains etc so exactly as per original. Also the repro underwing kits turned out to be pretty average, they would be fine for a race car, so fortunately the originals with a bit of cleanup have come out mint. Bloody annoying you pay big bucks for repro panels and they turn out to be a shit fit and need lots of rework to get anywhere near fitting.

  41. Also get a load of this for some Carburetor foam. I put up a wanted ad on here for some more 40mm Weber IDF type 13/15s. Someone said there was one on trademe, it's mine now. When I saw the ad I thought it was weird that it had all the caps on the fuel line pipes and on top plate, no matter it's the right type so I brought it. When it showed up I set about pulling it apart so that I can get it vapour blasted like the other 3 I have, the remarkable thing about this one, is that is appears to be brand new, although it is dull and a bit dirty on the outside I don't think this thing has ever had fuel though it. Remarkable for something that is 40 years old, Once I get around to getting it blasted I'll slap it back together and put it next to the other 3. Still on the hunt for another 2 if anyone knows of any.

  42. Floor is now painted with 2 coats of CRC Zinc Rust kill paint. Have also got a box of Dynamat on the way, and some new rubber bungs from Aliexpress. A couple of spots to fix up with the welder, then time to paint the boot and move on to getting the engine running. Cheers Matt

  43. New Bolts! Have got new bolts for nearly the whole engine, plus most of the front suspension/steering including some lowering blocks for the gearbox cross-member. This should tidy things up heaps. I have 3 extra complete sets of all the engine bolts shown in the first photo for sale (thought i might as well import a few sets). PM me if you are interested.
