  1. When you become a customer of your customers. Guy booked in his bug to get the very done. He is also the guy who imports and sells a bunch of kombi and volkswagen peaces and happens to have a full front with light buckets on his trailer when he dropped the bug off. What a great start to the week. Mondays aren't always bad.

  2. Things have happened I've recently been on a bit of a buying spree and have ended up with a variety of cool stuff such as, A full set of 5 "compomotive' mag wheels with 4 centre caps. These will get new tyres as the aquajet's on them are basically stuffed. Thought they looked quite neat and are a step away from the usual minilites or hotwires, steelies, etc... Depending on the cars colour I'll either leave them gold or do them black and polish back the spokes. I've also managed to pickup a full set of seats out of a 76 clubman. These are factory black seats and are a heck of a lot comfier than the mk1 seats! As these are fitted with springs instead of old seatbelts and perished straps. Even though they aren't period correct seats for the car, they'll do until I find some cleaner MK1 interior. In other news, the motor's changed colour! Yes yes, I know its not even close to the original colour, but you can forget paying $43 a tin for original coloured paint (that, imo, doesn't look amazing anyway). I have instead opted for a rather vibrant green from my favorite engine paint shop (bunnings). I think it'll brighten up the engine bay a little so im not fussed. The motor looks one heck of a lot better than it did when I started and most likely wont be in the car forever. So far its had a full gasket set thrown at it, a reconditioned gearbox, 1100 head, twin carbs & cooper exhaust amoungst spark plugs, points & condenser, the list goes on.. Planning to have both the front and rear subframes completed by the end of the month, so that I can move on to the body work. And speaking of bodywork........ We have built what is probably one of the sketchiest body rotisseries in existance, but, it does the trick. We've been hammering away getting the floors nice and straight again. Whoever panelbeated it and painted it before I got the car did a miserable job. The car has paint runs left right & centre, has terribly alligned panels, and the thinnest coat of paint in existence. And yes, that black patch in the middle of the car is supposedly the "underseal job"... Not to worry, as we plan to strip, etch prime, and reseal the entire underside of the little mini. It's a good thing we got to the car before it got any worse! Cheers all, that's me till next week. Jack.

  3. ^ Yup. It's going outside on the (yet to be) paved outdoor dining area. Wanna giz a hand to carry it up there? Lol In other news: @Big Value Buddy gave me a hand on Sunday, so here he is doing Big Value kind of stuff. Things are moving in the right direction, but it'll be a struggle to get the roof on before Christmas, however the wrap is largely done, the S/S flashing are largely on and we've clad probably 40% of the exterior. We'll do our best to get the roof started in December though!

  4. I then moved onto the base of the a-pillar, which is another common rust spot, mainly due to being commonly used as a jacking point when it isn't (the thing with a hole in it is an assembly jig point). You can see the lip all bent up and the bit behind it all holey. chopped it out, the bit behind (the passender floor panel) and all the other areas are in good nick. buzzbuzz grind and primer. Then the other Drivers side, which has been jacked on but was nowhere near as bad, a-pillar is good too I will cover most of this in seam sealer to build up the texture of the factory undercoat before putting a fresh coat of undercoat over the hole lot. Only rust remaining is in the rear of the cab, but im not sure ill get to Hamilton to get my 125 shell and back (1 weekend) , cut out the floors in both, (1 weekend) weld them in etc etc (1 weekend) before drag day which is 4 weeks away, so pondering a quick bodge to squeak it though a wof (maybe!) till the new year when ill have more time to do a good job Ive got a lada power order of various bushes and stuff, and an ali-express order that should arrive next week to finish off the interior before then too.

  5. Hey everyone I've finally managed to convince my old man to give me his commodore to restore and get back on the road where it belongs. its got a bit of rust here and there and is in need of a new paint job so far I've got most of the interior stripped out. I'll update as I go Discussion

  7. If anyone on here buys this, I have a spare front diff mount (possibly 2) at home sitting in the shed. Alternatively, Part Shop Max does solid mounts fairly cheap. Speaking of Regamasters.. Finally got around to fitting Semis on mine last week.

  8. Might stop boring you all to death with rust repairs for awhile. Next exciting thing for me will be lifting the body off the frame now its structurally sound enough to do so. Fucking hanging out to get this going. Momentum game is strong at the moment!

  9. Made the throttle pedal heel board from scratch today, as it was obviously missing. I actually used left over pieces from the new trunk floor stamping I bought, as the shapes were kinda close to what I think should be there for the pedal mount. Bonus. Still took me about 6 hours to fab this to size and butt weld it in though. Bastard.

  10. I finally got the seal out, my first attempt went a bit shit, I was drilling the seal and screwing in a wood screw to give me something to pull on but the screw kept pulling through with no movement of the seal, then the drill bit snapped so I left it hoping it would fall out by itself. Youtube videos only seem to show removal of cranks seals that were installed 5 mins before and not 35 years ago. I gave it another crack this morning after getting home from work, something about staying up all night really numbs your brain and helps you not to overthink things so 2 mins and a small right angled pick through one of the drilled holes helped me lever it out from behind. Yeah I need to clean up the seat then can bang the new one in. Once it's in I'll do another vac test and see what the mag side seal is like.

  11. Picked this up today. Not got many plans for it at the moment. Take the bumpers off and try and get them a little darker. Also try and get some new door cards as they aren't in good condition. Comments welcome!

  13. Long time no post.......2 business's and 2 small kids and buying the house will do that to your time and $$..... I've spent a bit of time working on my other Toyota project....to fund my other Toyota project..... I am waiting for space to clear up at the Panel shop to get the body work underway. In the mean time I've managed to track down a few panel cuts and some NOS to boot! There's been a few false leads of random shells around from as far as Horopito to the Phillipines.......Horopito turned out to be a ke35 and the Phillipines never eventuated. I am still excitedly waiting to hear on another potential shell. I was picking up some camera's for a video job and the guy had a 1200 coupe in the garage......as I usually do now, I asked him if he had a spare ke25 shell and turns out he does.......it is yet to materialise but I will keep chasing this up! Just need a drivers side now! Also have a complete rear panel (Taillight surrounds/lower valance etc) currently in the next ML Racing container form Japan. NOS indicator lenses - Much shiny goodness!

  14. However while having dinner I had a revelation. A while ago some random Fibre glass lengths turned up as a miss delivery. 750 x 5 x 1mm. Think they are for model planes. Had a play along with some metarial I had bought at nats hoping to make curtains with but its to see through. However concept looks like these may work, might just need to tape some together to add strength. Should probably go buy that roll of tartan material I found at the second hand shop the other day.

  17. Been a few months since I really updated progress, so Got really pissed off with chasing issues in the carbs, that I traced to a vacuum leak, fixed that for a quick win, got the LM2917 running and lined up all data points on the one plot, this ended up to be very useful and with that and a set of micro drills, I soldered and drilled my way to a decent mixture, eventually settling on 0.5 idles, 1.20 mains and 2.0 air correctors, pretty much the same as where I started! there are a few more gremlins in there, I have reason to believe the pump jets are a tad rich, but economy is acceptable and that was really all I was after! A couple of days later the stalling at idle came back, notably at the gate into work, at the same time one of the older staff members who happened to be a capable mechanic heard it splutter and came over full barry spec commenting the Russians swapped Ladas for butter, oh and plugs are too cold. Sure enough, purchased up a grade and stalling be gone! That would have been the start of winter, with a running Lada, I dug into Niva orientated activities: Drove up mountains to frolic in the snow: Then spring came, so drove up mountains to fill the freezer: Life was good, then on the way home one evening there was a loud bang, followed by nothing but concern, figuring I wasn't in the ditch I carried on carefully, arriving home I looked closer: Hmm, so a few phone calls to my parts man and spun a few spanners on the magic floating Lada Couldn't resist a flick of paint while there Reverse spanner spin All in time for a late night run to the mountains for one last weekend I was promised spring shred, but woke to snow, Niva looked happier than Vladimir necking vodka Returning home the steering box made a few bad noises, being that the wof was a few weeks from dead it was back to the axle stands but this time the front end up high, I then got way too motivated and pulled the steering system out, along with some worn ball joints...... Poor thing is now destined to sit on the stands til after christmas as I just don't have time right now to really do the work right! After all this time and effort to get the Dellortos running correctly i'm 90% convinced they are coming out, I have an efi option on the cards thats just too good to refuse.

  18. Wednesday 22nd November 2017 Second-to-last Wednesday of every month. Click this link to see the location on google maps: Link to Countdown Mt Wellington covered carpark on google maps We will be using the covered carpark which is situated directly below the Countdown Supermarket, as pictured above. The Countdown shopping complex is on the corner of Mt Wellington Highway and Penrose Road, Mt Wellington. Food options within the complex: - Burgerfuel - Pizza Hut - Dominos - Rack & Roll Ribs Food options across the road: - Sal's Pizza - Waves Seafood (Fish and Chips) - Chunky Chicken Food Bar We pretty much all go to Burgerfuel though. They offer us a free drink from the Coke range with every Burger and Chips combo purchased. FIRST MEET?? If you are new to these meets then here are a few points that may help; Most people usually show up between 7:00pm and 8pm-ish. We'll be parked in the covered carpark below Countdown . Remember its always a casual affair, a place to yarn to mates and make new ones. An Oldschool car is not required at all, but if you've got one on the road then bring it along. Doesn't need to be flash or special. RULES AND THE BORING STUFF!! Basically these are in place so we have a fun and friendly meet and leave the carpark clean and tidy like we were never there. Take your rubbish away with you or put it in a bin, Use the public bins provided throughout the carpark or the ones for the food businesses themselves. Don't be a messy cunt. Smokers please don't dispose of your butts on the ground! Again, don't be a messy cunt. Be a good one. No alcohol consumption at all at this event. We are not allowed to consume alcohol on the premises. You are welcome to invite a few mates, but please note you are 100% responsible for their behaviour If you belong to other clubs and feel they might be keen to come check out our meet then that's cool but please PM Threeonthetree, Shakotom or BDA780 for permission before inviting them. NO Skids or Reckless/Dangerous driving. We're in a covered carpark that echoes so don't be a dick and rev your engine unnecessarily because then you will get us kicked out. And I will dump a BW35 transmission on your doorstep/face. Piazzanoob is allowed to attend if he brings his Galaxie. MOST OF THESE ARE COMMON SENSE. WE WILL PROVIDE A FEW GENTLE REMINDERS WITH THE NEW RULES BUT REPEAT OFFENDERS MAY BE ASKED TO LEAVE. If you have any suggestions or input for the meets then PM Threeonthetree, Shakotom or BDA780 Thanks!!

  19. Used up a whole 1L canister of Dinotrol underbody on the front half when i got home tonight, should keep it nice for a while, as well as hiding my secret excavations. Ill cavity wax in the corners and access holes tomorrow and then its off the stands. My Aliexpress oder turned up too, so I finished off wiring up the centre console on the bench. Sound Pressure, Oil Pressure, Engine Pressure and Electrical Pressure Gauges ready to go. This combination of Chinas finest automotive accessories (head unit, 3x 2" gauges cluster, and a 2" Tach) cost me US$62 including shipping, and im quite pleased with my purchase so far, and i very much like the factory ''2FM + 5 AM Station Memory' looks, even the wonky chrome kinda suits. Mechless Head unit has bluetooth, Aux and USB inputs and a tuner, and has 4 channel RCA outputs if the 4x60W (lololol) onboard amp turns out to be total pants, but i dont imagine the bottom tier 90s Pioneer box speakers ill jam under the seats will reveal much of a soundstage. TBH ill just be happy of the Aux-in works and the USB port charges my phone.

  21. @Seedy Al send me your address details and I will send you as much 3 mm diameter fibreglass rod as you need. Highest quality stuff you can get, 1100 MPa tensile strength. I have a big pile of experimental 500 mm long rods here that are just taking up space. Interlaminar shear strength is about 60 MPa. Flexural storage modulus at room temp is about 23 GPa. Ideal stuff for curtains. Also a pile of 11x4 flat bar that I should probably hock off too. Same strength characteristics. Probably a bit stiff for curtains though.

  29. this week i finished off a few jobs on the list, started on the a-pillar, as i thought it would only need a little patch. which is nice because this area is a common rust spot with the pointy fender angles trapping much up there and then rusting into the scuttle then i found it has been leaded before. and there was a big hole on the underside letting water up into the scuttle, so off with this whole corner (this is about the 5th time ive done almost this exact cut). as per usual the triangle bit had a hole in it letting water from the front wheel up into the a-pillar. Nice REmade that bit and repaired the scuttle and fender corners buzzed back on and a coat of primer. Just needs a skim of bog, but that can wait

  30. have decided that i love my mk5 the way it is (apart from the 5 speed that will be going into it.) so i m going to put the turbo pinto into the mk3 build. we were playing with a few things today and decided that we should try the setup on a running motor for tuning before we slam it on a fresh rebuilt motor. that when i thought about the shitty old pinto sitting in the mk3.....fuck knows what its like but i can turn it over by hand so it will run. its missing heaps of shit including a clutch,p,plate gearbox and drive shaft but i will need then in the future so may as well get some now. so far replaced the manifolds to check for fitment ...removed the dizzy and replaced with efi dizzy...all in all its a good fit. will have to sort out wiring as well as thats a fucking mess.

  38. Been a good week, cleaned up the floor on the interior, painted it, dynamat (hate you). Then did final install on the engine, inlet manifold and wiring and the up high alt, and ac compressor brackets, just waiting on the power steering pump. My boy cleaned up the interior panels on the front end and resprayed them, and the front end is sitting back where it needs to be.... AC is halfway done, wiring is started, fuel lines 90%. Power on for the next three days and hopefully have most electrical stuff and some other rats and mice done.

  44. I have been getting down and dirty getting my gearbox sorted lately. My back hasn't been happy but I don't care car comes first. Well me and the old man got the adapter finished and have been doing mock fit up for it. I new I might have to do some cutting but not much in the end but what I didn't expect was the cost. $640 for custom driveshaft. Was looking at gearbox insides and a circling had pop loose and bopped all over the gearbox but looks ok. Took to gearbox place and getting full treatment but that costs $500 so wallet looking sad. Here's a small visual display for you.....

  45. Just put a few hundred miles on this car over waitangi weekend. My lil brother, dad and best mate all went for a good cruise around kapiti making noise and snapping necks while dad told tales of the hunter he used to own. Most fun I've had in ages. The next day I used it as my car for my wedding and the lads and I all turned up to our ceremony in it. And only the day after our wedding has it started being unreliable. Im happy it waited until the next day.
