  1. So yeah, the Oldschool drag day today was dope! I didn't do great times; worse than last year. But the LSD was sweet and I did 2nd gear skidz up the strip which was awesome. I was having so much fun I monged out and snapped an axle during my staging skid trying to grab 2nd gear. But as luck would have it I had some similar Datsun axles in my shed and managed to cobble together a complete axle, so I'm back up and running, JEAH! The one in the middle is the one I made out of the broken one and one similar to the bottom one.

  2. Time for a bit of a update; Welded the head plate, fish plates for chassis rails. Got green sheeted, had to tweak & alter a few things, lengthened the driveshaft. Took it out to a local black track for a run in, stopped, turned and seemed to go well, so rather than pull in and check I just went for it, went really rather well indeed. Made a few alterations after the test day.. Changed the diff head, radiator hose setup & fuel hoses. Near complete chassis Carby, Breather Setup Roof plate welded, hot work welding 10mm plate! Went to Woodford Glen for my first meeting in the car, had a fantastic bunch of people helping with the car which made for a stress free night, didnt have to worry about a thing. Proud to display RO Jones on the car, fantastic Job Scott & the team did painting the body, bonnet & dash! Stands out supremely well!! 33 cars fronted for the the night, I started all of them off the rear of the grid as I wanted to stay out of the way, whilst I get to grips with the car without pin balling around. First race went well in the fact I finished the race, 21st (22 finished), but the gearing was all wrong. Race 2 we put the RR onto the LR and the largest tyre I had onto the RR (225/75r15), instantly shaving 1.5 second off my best lap time from the race prior. Finishing 13th Race 3 we made no changes however the track was very slick and lots of people were spinning up. No faster this race, but managed 10th from the rear. Have a few changes to make again, and will try something with the rear end, but overall it handled well. Driver just needs to get up to scratch a little - more consistent. Big thank you to all involved who have helped along the way, advice, parts, time or materials. Thanks to the crew that came and gave a helping hand; Tim, Caitlyn, Crystal & Matt. - All made for a stress free first night. A few tweaks to be done, but overall very happy with the car finishing 3 from 3 races. Started them all off the back and went forward so that's a bonus! Especially big thanks to the Read & Blyth family's for their generous support throughout building the car. RO Jones for the painting of the Body, bonnet, Dash. Fast Blast - sandblasting wheels, components, advice, help in time & materials also Mag & Turbo of course for being on board right from the start, wheels, tyres

  3. Few more pics, Had to redesign the remote after the first run, Originally it was designed to be in the off position at 6oclock ,standby at 9, throttle from 9 to 4, but I kept accidentally shutting the engine off when throttling down. So I added a 2nd switch, the top switch is power and bottom one is standby/ run so the throttle is now adjustable on for the entire range of the rotary knob, all I need to to to shut down normally is turn the throttle to minimum and throw the4 bottom switch to standby which lets it stay powered for the cooling cycle. Here's a couple of pics of the unit on it's own, it's designed to be added to any healing cruiser and just uses the seat bolt to attach. and the final touch, the tank stickers ,thanks to Bangbug for printing these off last minute.

  4. Also purchased this a while ago, an original rubber sport spoiler. Was trying to find where to put the number plate holes so it was time to get the spoiler out and try it. Thoughts? Obviously would be colour matched to the body. Also have the other type of grill, and chrome and sport bumpers to play with as well. //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/43995-bmxnz11s-mk2-escort-van/

  7. Dive tank just has a regulator on the top of it that knocks it back to 150psi or whatever, that goes into the main tank so you don't need 3000psi safe valves etc

  10. next time eh! I liked apiti bar and grill on facebook. the owners of the place (weirdos that used to run it, then shut it down for a while then let the current people lease it) suddenly reneged on renewing thier lease! so no more apiti pub again. why would someone not renew the lease on a place that's hummin' along? kill the small town etc. retards.

  12. I've got a couple of pics here of whats been going on with the Datto. Stripped it back and it's getting a fresh coat and a different look for next year. A massive amount of work getting the body back into shape by Berky, it really was a bit of a mess once it was stripped back. We wont paint it until it's all back together. It will also have a new rear wing and front splitter. Also expanded the G/Box tunnel while it's apart thanks to Ryan Baker, gives us unlimited options to slot a better box in further down the track. Some pics of new bits to help us get around a bit quicker. LSD, Wilwoods, Griffin radiator and PWR oil cooler(no pic). Car completely rewired by Feilding Auto Electrical. All new Autometer gauges to monitor the new 13BPP power plant built by Stu Lawton who will also do a complete new exhaust system for it...cant wait to fire this thing up. All things going well we should complete the car during my January holidays, ready to race at the Manfeild IRC meeting in Feb.

  14. Yorks run their own oil sump that lubricates the piston, if the rings are still good should have minimal oil going into the air lines, there are also mods that can be done to them that reduce it even further. I have never actually used one in an airbagged car but have bought and sold maybe 30-40 of them over the years to minitruckers and offroading people. They are quite cool wee things, can pump like 18CFM at redline and have an electric clutch so can disengage them when not in use.

  15. had a fettle with series one tonight.. filled it with water. jumper leads on 20+ year old battery. picked up the piece of firewall that's fallen down that contains ignition switch and gauges (wasn't expecting much) turned key on and push starter button. turr rurrr rurrrr. let it wind over a bit to splash oil round. no spark. points grubby and dead coil. sorted that. big hole in fuel tank (rust) so just squirted a whole lot of crc down the carb, then brake cleaner in the float chamber breather tube thing. turr rurr rurrr vrrommm!!! runs pretty good. started on 5cyl then promptly picked up number six. only a small puff of smoke from the crc i reckon. mean. seems to run a lot quieter than the engine in my good one. whipped three plugs out once it'd run a few minutes and did a compression check. 165-170 on all three. I'm happy with that. while it's out of this thing coz it's easy: - whip the head off and get ol' mate jim to give it a lick with the die grinder. -smash a bit nicer cam at it to give a little more pep and new lifters -play with the dizzy -metal timing gears if not already fitted (this engine was rebuilt and only had a few thousand miles on it apparently so maybe it already has them. was quite whiney up front compared to others) -check bigends and oil pump. -chuck a new water pump etc on and give it a pretty basic tidy up. pretty hilarious. the gearbox crossmember pretty much broke away completely from the chassis while all this was going on. i'm pretty much not gonna try cut a lap round the block in this one haha.

  16. One of the small jobs ive been putting off was fixing the window wiper holes. These were flogged, the hole wiper system was flogged. There were stress cracks and the holes were no longer round. Opened up the cracks, drilled a few plug holes and welded underneath a backing plate to give it a bit more strength. Did the same to the other wiper hole. All cleaned up.

  23. Control box almost complete, almost as I couldn't find any 6 pin plugs like the other ones I used locally so they'll have to go on later, I'll just stuff a grommet in the hole for now. This houses the ECU, Battery, a little servo trickery and a whole nest of wires. Ended up being a lot bigger than I imagined it to be as the die-cast boxes jump from just a tiny bit too small to way to big. I ended up placing it directly over the turbine for a couple of reasons being that if the turbine decides to let go it has another barrier to get through before it hits the rider, also it helps protect the turbine if I fall off. Nearly done!

  25. Finally have the pump assembly together, this fits inside the a cavity in one end of the fuel tank Fuel Pump, Solenoids and Filters for both Fuel and Propane start. I had zero luck trying to find a good set of rims that weren't past it with rust so I bought this bike just for the wheels, Felix picked it up for me in CHCH and he reckoned it was too good to tear down so I decided to get the whole bike shipped to Akl which ended up being the right thing to do.. Thanks to the help of Felix and the good chaps at Mainfreight for the shipping, this wee baby turned up at work. I think I've accumulated 6 frames now, so I hope to get the other 3 up and running for the family beach house, I'll keep this one up to spec so I can go for a ride iith the kids and totally knacker them out! Annoying kids? no problem!, just flick a switch and blast away with Acme Jet Cruiser...

  26. Found some Halliday racing wheels in 15x10 that I might buy. Looks sweet. Fronts might have to be taken back to 9s because I have to space them 10mm to clear the brake calliper which means the tyre probably won't tuck under the arch.

  27. Starting to put it together now, knew i should have gone slightly larger with the stainless tube as it took 3 hours to feed the pipes and wires through with a lot of silicone. Loosely mounted on the frame for the first time, starting on the control solenoid mounts and filters in the fuel tank. Managed to keep it to still just a single bolt to attach/detach,

  28. another step forward, kinda, I screwed the measurements I wrote down on paper for the rear mount so we need to adjust that, but it's getting closer couple more pics Trial fit on the bike frame Here's the the rear view, still need to adjust the mount width and add a support frame that slides over and locks onth the rear carrier. The actual jet mounts on the underside of the SS tube and mounting tabs need to be welded on to the frame yet. Measuring up the fuel lines and control cables to go inside the SS tubing.

  31. Kapow. This is some next level shit if I do say so myself. Still needs finishing touches but you get the idea. Main box area will be cladded and need a few more slats for the top. Top hinges up for storage underneath, and plenty off room down the side for hauling bikes etc. When its party time, the top slides out to reveal double bed. Matress will be split down the middle but still atatched so it will just fold in half.

  32. They arent the same as common 20" bmx. You might be able to track down some nos or at least decent condition ones on trademe or ebay. Off the top of my head they are 20 x 1 3/8 rims

  33. 20" Rims for these cruisers, can you buy new rims on their own? All the ones I have are rusty inside and out and make me a bit concerned they might puncture. Apart from that it's still full steam ahead.

  35. Small update, have the prototype of the remote working. Throttle is black knob, down is off, to left is idle and turn it clockwise for full power, also a mode switch (yellow) and power switch. Easy start, just turn it on, throttle to min, then up to max for a second and back to min and it begins the auto-start process, to turn it off you just rotate the throttle knob to zero, much easier than trying to hold an RC remote or using the Ground Support Unit. I'll get some nice stickers made up at some stage. Got another lot of stainless with nice pre-formed bends and it's ready to start being built.
