Well, its about that time again 15 months in storage, I revived the old girl Tap the fuel pump a few times Fill with coolant Pop in my new electronic distributor And it fired right up, to a massive smoke screen as I burned off the Morey's in the cylinders Drove it around the house and everything seems fine. The car was moved and never put back on blocks, and a tarp put on it, so those marks will hopefully come out with a wash Il go get it and bring it back soon

I bought the red AW11 (auto + on hold). Picked it up today, threw a battery in it and it runs! Lots of smoke and sounds lazy, but it goes. Time to do a few autocrosses in it before pulling it to bits .

I'm kind of not counting that because although it still needs to be welded and ll be welding it, Peter is in charge for that bit and he'll do it when he gets a chance. i can't really dictate when it gets done so ill pretend its not happening or some shit. lets just say that all the welding (except of the rest of the welding) is done! excellent.

Hey all..... Last couple of weeks have been real busy. Blocking then primering and more blocking and then I finally got the paint on the cortina. Its come up brillant and am so stoked. ive bought new screen rubbers should be here early next week and should have windows in by friday. So if all goes to plan ill have it home by saturday. Im looking foward to the fit up now and will keep posted the details. Theres no pics of the blocking because I wish to forget that part. Enjoy...

Bought one of these! I have been waiting for a while for a good hoist to come up for sale. Missed out on a few on TM as i was too slow, but this came up in taupo from a place that was downsizing so i grabbed it. 3.5T heshbon. in great condition. Its 10mm from the roof and just forward enough so the arse end of the car clears the roller door.

Project 1.0 is slowly getting underway, after the 3 month escape to Asia... Part of this post I want to dedicate to one of the coolest dudes we met, Rtid. A mixture of instagram and facebook conversations utilising good old google translate meant that we roughly organised to meet at a cafe in Northern Thailand with him and his 808. He mentioned that there could be a few tourists and he wouldn't know who we were, but the fact that 1) he arrived in the 808 I pined over for months and 2) we were the only ones running away from our coffee to see it, meant we found each other pretty easy. I can say this is easily one of the coolest examples of an 808 I have ever seen, and it is a park everywhere, anywhere daily driver! Rtid is a hilarious and talented guy who many may know from his now famous art shirts, "RX3 or 808 Thailand", or the fact he basically runs Lampang Retro Car club. My favourite conversation was pointing to his fender mirrors, trying to explain I was in the market for some. Giving that making dinner plans for later took over 20 minutes, you can imagine how long it took to explain about mirrors. I finally find some Wi-Fi and show him a picture to which he delightfully exclaims "OH Celica ta22 mirrors! I have!" So I proudly own some very well travelled Celica fender mirrors, along with some of the rad shirts he designs. Yes the mirrors made it flawlessly through 6 more flights and numerous trains and buses in my bag, checked by a custom official at Narita airport who asked where from and was super excited when I mentioned they were for a Matsuda. This other part I want to dedicate a huge shout out to Paul Weir for dedicating huge amounts of time and effort into creating some wild wheels for the new style. For some reason I felt like the parts on the car should have a meaning, so this time the colour reflected the late 80's colour scheme Rod Millen ran for his Ashley Forest FC RX7 I told myself 2 years ago that once the car was done, I would never make it a project again. So now marks the beginning of the process to complete the car and hopefully after round 2, never make it a project again.

Decided I liked BMW E36 coupes. So I bought this Rough body and interior, manual gearbox. Was supposed to be a 2.5 but its only a 2L. Bonus was the gearbox turned out to be a ZF manual from a 328i or M3 Then I bought this 2.5 Auto Motorsport. Body tidy although doesn't appear to have been washed in its life. M3 Style front end and M3 style mirrors. Came on Bilsten shocks with Eibach springs which handle awesome. Average interior and rooted roof lining. Then I aquired this because it was super cheap. (far left) 320i non motorsport with motorsport kit front and rear, BBS's with new tyres and immaculate roof lining. So yeah, plan is to put manual in the silver one and tidy up the black one to sell for proft. I wasn't happy with the brakes on the silver one, which although better than the other two seem to fade quickly. I've brought E46 328i rear brakes, going from the factory 280mm x 10mm solid rear rotor to a 300mm x22mm vented one. I'll be getting E46 330i front brakes to raise the factory 286mm x 22mm vented rotor to a 325mm x 25mm rotor. Will do braided lines and M3 master cylinder at the same time then save to get some slotted rotors and performance pads all around. Ideally I'd like to get the silver one stripped out and handling as good as possible then work on upping the power. Would be a fun car to do a few local gymkhanas or hillclimbs in on the cheap

Survived the first "out of town" drive but not without minor hiccups Drove her to Southwards swapmeet, drove there flawlessly. Great little drive with my wife and 3 daughters. Parked up (next to a 55 Chev Nomad!!! My all time favourite car) and enjoyed the displays and even managed to pick up a workshop manual for cheap. So after doing the rounds and the kids getting bored and over it we piled in and left to come home. All was well until Pukerua Bay, felt an abnormal vibration and a rattling noise. Nursed her home and 100m from home I hear the ting ting ting of a bolt. Managed to vibrate the exhaust flange bolts loose causing the exhaust system to twist and vibrate against the floorpan, the ting noise was one of the nuts. Found a couple of new nuts and spring washers and realigned system. Sweet! My left front wheel bearing (adjusted yesterday) also loosened off on the way home. Readjusted and put the correct sized splitpin in place of the shite that was on it. Fingers crossed that sorts that issue. All in all an uneventful voyage and I definitely learnt a lot more about her characteristics. Heaps of positive feedback from those that stopped to talk. I <3 the Oldschool vibe !

Yeah, the fifth one was dark metallic blue, so a late one perhaps? Paint was pretty scruffy and it was an auto but had WOF/reg until next year.

Been on a few weekend burns and i noticed it was loosing water. One of the heater hoses was leaking in the engine bay. gave it a squeeze and it disintegrated in my hands. I pulled it off and decided the top radiator hose was also on the verge of failure. next thing i know, all the hoses are out, the dash is half out, the heater is out etc etc not 1 of these 45 year old hoses is stocked by anybody so i took a selection from supercheap and repco to try. So far i have fitted 2 hoses. only 7 or 8 to go.

Cruise control is working! Haha, this is so cool. If you set a speed, it deviates either way by less than 2kph max. It's a little jerky on the downhill, but I just need to tweak some settings a bit. I've never had cruise control before, so it's a bit of a surreal feeling, especially in a car that's 30 years old. Knock detection is setup and working as well too, this took a bit of fiddling to get right. I set it up so that it could pull out up to 20 degrees of timing if it wanted. With the idea that if at a certain load/rpm point it's pulled out 20 degrees and it's still reporting knock, then it obviously isnt knock! So I could adjust the thresholds up and down. Now I've got it pretty good, added in a bunch of ignition timing as per the reccomended settings but there were a few zones where I had to pull it back a degree or so to avoid knock. My previous best quarter mile time was 14.3 @ 150kph, there's now a few indications that it might reach 150kph in 13.5 seconds which could possibly mean a 1/4 mile time in the high high high 13s. 13.999999 still counts! haha. But it's all a load of shit talk until drag day! Might do 14.5s all day long or throw a rod out the block trying to catch up to KPR hahaha. I went for a run up north and back, currently getting ~7l per 100km while still aiming for a 14.7:1 AFR at cruising. Will try lean it out a bit, and fiddle with cam timing and see if it can get even better. Looking forward to attending a few OS events coming up! Especially the drag day, cant wait.

So I've been looking for a hako for about 4 years now, keeping an eye on the prices and how quickly they seem to be appreciating in price as the world notices them (thanks RM Sotheby's) and with some hard saving I've been able to finally make a purchase. The car is a 1971 2000GT with L20 engine and 5 speed. Unknown ks, bit of rust around the place (wouldn't be one without it) but overall a fairly solid start. I purchased this from Restored.jp who some may be familiar with, they make aftermarket FRP and carbon parts for old cars like that Hako. This was the owners personal car.. whether that's good or not is yet to be known but it's a nice story anyway. I'd be interested to have contact with other owners of Hakos in NZ as it would be handy for parts and general networking. I'll be working on this in stages (as I'm now broke) to get this up to road legal spec.. More to come but I've already figured a couple things I need to do before it's even here ! So after a few years away from any motorsport I went and volunteered for targa to do timing again for them with a bunch of mates i got the bug again i had eyed this up as it was so cheap anyway. I convinced my other half that there was no way could I finish my trueno for what this cost so that will be going even further on the back burner now after a lengthy chat with the seller the deal was done it has a bit of rust to contend with but none of it overly serious reg is on hold did its last event rally of gisbourne in 2011 then the guy had a kid and he didnt race again engine is a 1500 single cam engine, dual carb, has had mild cam work, mild porting, polished port, the pistons are one oversized and has been balanced. It is a standard gear box Has a terratrip. Has a full manz roll cage. Comes with it's log book it needs new belts but im fairly sure the ones in my trueno are still in date / they are cheap anyway so he said for a extra 100$ hed bring it to napier for me to halve my drive to go get it. I pick it up the first weekend of december as im away again in a couple of weeks so I cant wait plan is ill tackle the rust and give it a clean up on my break over xmas oh and look at that sweet momo steering wheel that really sealed the deal

Hello People! Myself and a lad from teh french forum are pretty keen to get out and about with our lovely french machines over the summer for a few relaxed cruises. The greater Manawatu has hundreds of kilometres of beautiful roads and even more beautiful scenery and what better time to enjoy that than summer time with a saucy french minx. We're thinking for the first cruise to kick off in Feilding, take in a quick lap of two of the river valleys and back. It's around 115km of pretty quiet roads and we're thinking we can either stop for a quick bite/beer midway or carry on back to Feilding for the same. There wont be any gravel roads or anything that'll harm even the slickest of cars. Looking at Sunday 6th of December. register your interest! This definitely wont be the last of these so get on board and enjoy some car lad banter, bring your partner and mates and lets have a bit of fun! This is definitely open to out of towners too. Haven't come across any parabolics that I'm keen on the price of, and for my useage I'm reading mixed reviews so I'm gonna run with stockers for now. whipped front springs out tonight. These run a bit of a weird swining shackle at the rear of the spring - the top part has a thread cut on one plate, which I guess can preload the shackle plates against the chassis bush, then a locknut over top. Once I had the springs out (very easy - was frightened the bolts would be frozen inside the bush crush tubes) I couldn't move the swinging shackle wth even a big bar. Whomever recently replaced the bushes in the rearward end of the spring must've done it up with a rattle gun far too tightly. Probably didn't help the uncompliance of the front suspension! She rides like the only suspension comes from the tyres. Much worse than my last rover. left hand side of the front axle was able to walk by a good 1.5" which is pretty dangerous in all honesty. Made it pretty hard to hold in a straight line when coupled with a fairly sloppy steering box. There's also a fair ridge in the underside of most of the leaves where the next one down slides against it and a bit of rust heave. I'll tidy that up, maybe add some uhmw tape to aid in frictionless win, modify the leaf clamps to have bolts in the top rather than the folded over type and taper the ends of the leaves. May whip one leaf out to add to the ride quality as well and go from there. The bolt type clamps is purely for futureness - easy to pop the bolt off and let the diff hang down and spread the leaves to fire motorcycle chain wax in or something if they need a bit of a lube up. Have had a couple of new main leaves made up by archers in rotorua (6mm stock rather than 3/16" coz they don't carry the 3/16" anymore) Hoping to have them all back in by the weekend. Need to get a couple of centrebolts and a couple of new flap discs for the grinder and I'm good to go. after that, I still need to replace the brake master cylinder, and then move on to the rear springs - they're an afterthought which seems to have been built to take a seriously heavy amount of weight and they don't move much at all. plus the thing's jacked a good 3 or so inches from original so I'm pretty keen to sort that to make it a bit morecomfy. I'll never want to put a tonne of shit in the back so there's no point leaving them as they are.

They can shrink if they are out of the car for a while, try leaving it in the sun on a hot day as it should soften it up so it can be streched easyer. ados f2 spray glue is what we use at work for gluing trim back down, just make sure you not going to need to pull it out again as it can be hard to get things un glued if you need to move them.

Cool event, got there about 9:30, kids were over it before 11. Got a couple pics but gave the kids my ph to take most pics and out of 100 only half a dozen were ok.

Picked up this 4V manifold and carb at the Southwards swap today. Carb has a 1964 factory tag. The car currently has a 2V manifold so I'll probably clean this up and swap it on sometime.

Hey guys !! Seems to have been couple months since updated. Had a break down where my alternator / water pump belt snapped it had stretched lucky mrs parents werent far away n got the old man to pick up a belt from super cheap (csnt believe they had it in stock) n dropped it out to me which i replaced on the side of the road n carried on. Since then i had noticed a bearing noise which turned out to be alternator most likely the cause for the belt snap . Had my car taken into carb specalists to get the carbs looked at ... Ending up getting em rebuilt which took 3 weeks due to wrong parts . nothing available in nz etc etc etc.. After getting those rebuilt balanced n tuned car runs alot smoother Went on n replaced dizzy cap rotor and points next will be coil Got some ramflo off my mate which i cleaned up came up ok That aside ive jus been enjoying cruising around was def a long time coming !!! Heres some more pics

If the tune is good you dont need an oxy sensor, to the point were people who pay for tunes and dont do it themselves would have exactly 0 benefit of having one.

Two weeks of MK2's Part 1: To start the wild ride, I accidentally won an auction for SSR Mk2s. I was sure that I would be outbid, and placed the bid as a reminder to myself about the auction, but sure enough after 10,000,000,000 refreshes nobody outbid me and suddenly I owned these awesome wheels... in Japan. With a huge thanks to Jesse Streeter we discussed the cheapest option of around an 8 week delivery so while I was thinking of clever ways to hide their arrival through employing Karl, these sneaky sneakers were on their way for an earlier 6 week delivery. Down low, too slow Found some neat centre caps, and spent a few hours cleaning them up and snapping the rusty bolts out of the wheels. Part two: After 3.5 years (and many assignments relating to marketing motorsport events in NZ) I got to take place in Davidson Graduation Mk2. The super special thank you must go to Rodney for flying down to see me walk briskly across Aotea stage. RX3, Mk2 graduation, Mk2 wheels, Ari Catenen Part three: Really was no better way to celebrate leaving education then to go to Japan, for my Mk2 visit. rot808 and I are off on our Asian Adventure, hopefully finding our way to all the RX3 brothers and cousins.
