  3. So with the help of my good friend Mr. George Esprit, the new old Datsun was wheeled into his cavernous garage and the disassembly process begun! First though, some shots of mine next to the standard 260C for a bit of ride height comparison. 7. excuse my spelling. im not the best It wasn't long before i had someone traveling up the North Island to come pick my truck up, so window rubbers were ordered. Meanwhile a few more things had to be done. Headlining was hanging from rust repairs around the windows so brought the glue gun home from work and glued it up. The sound deadening had managed to fall down as well. so glued it all back up and started to put all the side windows in what a mission trying to get that one back in. by the 4th window i would consider myself a pro now wasn't to much longer and the guys from hamilton windscreens were putting the front and rear windows in for me. had to leave them to it so i could get back to work. got home from work and the windows were done so thought I'd pop out say hi to John at World Of Tyres Pukete. Persuaded with some bourbon, the valiant was up on the hoist getting a wheel alignment in minutes. wheels were also balanced. while the front wheels were off i grabbed this photo. not many ap5 valiants floating around with the latter vc disk brake set up on the front. I'm glad my dad knew what he was doing when i was young. the next day i shot back to help out and go get him some parts for his car, i came back to one shinny guard that he decided he would polish for me while i was out in his van quite the difference. im wondering if i left it with him for a day if it would be all shinny for me when i got back..... went on its 1st out of town drive to visit a mate see if he had a exhaust manifold because mines got a huge hole in it. just pulling into his driveway and realized temp was getting warm. popped the bonnet and top water hose has a nice crack in it. so scavenging through his parts trying to find a manifold i also found a nice hose as well. problem fixed. later that day had to go pick up a engine crane for a mate. got this nice photo while i was hooking up the trailer. and today i thought i better give the engine and radiator a flush out after seeing what lovely water i was running. here is a pic of what was in it isn't that beautiful. also gave the windows a good clean. now i have to remind myself i have them and i can't just throw things on to the drivers seat and that's that for now. im still trying to find a dash ash tray for it as ours had a oil pressure gauge in it and ive moved it.

  12. Haha - all true - yeah I'm not a beater of my goods and I have weak hips. As fas as I am concerned the W series boxes are fine for what I'm doing. Goat has one behind a XJS V12 and that's a 2 tonner whale with umpteen millions of torque and is holding together just fine. I could have gone auto - but I like manual V8's...

  14. Hey guys, Am in the process of moving back to Palmy, and should be back by the end of the month, so will be looking after the area rep duties when I get back. Have got some choice ideas for meets, after learning what works up in Auckland thanks to chris, so hopefully we should be able to grow them, and have a more car oriented style meet up. Have started emailing some business for potential hook ups and permissions, so will let you all know when I've got it sorted. Hopefully should be good to go for July, but it may end up being different times of the months each month rather than a solid first thursday. Will keep you all in the loop though, and plenty of notice. See you all soon! Sprak

  15. Oh I see your hmx is the single gusset mk i type, nice. Before you suss a stem make sure you check if yours is 21.1 or 22.2mm as they did differ. Thr period correct stem for it is one of those twin clamp ones if you are fussed, they dont look as sweet as some other stems - a bit agricultural looking but sweet regardless

  21. I agree that auto will suit this build. But it has to be like a 2 speed so its like baaaaaa-booooooo when you go down the strip. but yeh these big v8s are lush with autos. even shitty old 4 speed ones. don't need gears when you got talks. Its a PITA driving a manwell falcon/commodore v8. auto all the way

  23. Since I have two tanks (the orig mint green one) and the bare metal one, the more I think about it the more I want this sort of style; I will use my bare metal tank and paint a satin black stripe on it somewhere/how I also like this; The front guard will just get chopped a hell of a lot shorter. I want to remove the chrome from the guards and paint them satin black. I am still undecided whether to paint the wheels or not. Faster than a Honda Cock'n'Balls but not faster than the GS thou on here

  28. spent another few hours in the shed (again, huuuuuge thanks to KK) Cleaned engine bay and motor Replaced frost plug Put shit together Put in the hole And carbs on to keep up motivation Need to get some extractors (factory exhaust manfoold is gay and has an open port which bolts to factory intake which is now in the bin) Need to get longer throttle cable to reach new carbs (Bike cable should work) Need to make up litle adaptors for gbox xmember. Have this sussed out so pretty straight forward. Then fill everything back up with fluids and (try) do a skid discussion //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/33955-beavers-wuntwennywhy-coupe/page-11

  29. Oh hello! I went to Oldschool Nationals. Track day on the Friday was awesome. Heres a few snaps. I hope the owners of the photos dont mind me using them here. Now those of you with a keen eye will notice that somethings missing off the car in the picture above. Two of the SSR wheel caps decided that they didnt want to hang on anymore. After noticing that the caps were missing in the pits, I pulled the other two caps off. Strangley they came off very easily. So after punting the car around the track, the brakes AND wheels had gotten hot enough to soften the plastic of the caps. So saddened with my loss I ordered some more caps through Import Monster (great service). I got some longer caps. Now half the reason that the caps came off is the locating tabs on the caps NEVER engaged in the slots in the wheel. Soo thats dumb. Good one SSR. Muppets. Now Karl (BDA780) is a dab hand at the 3D printing. So armed with one of the original caps he drew up the cap (with 5mm locating tabs) and knocked some out on the printer. I'll get them chromed and stickers made at some stage. Oh, heres some more pictures of the car.

  34. So.. Clicked buynow on an ls1 earlier tonight. Plan is to retain factory ecu and loom as A, there is tons of info on making the loom work in conversions and B, the factory ecu is easily tunable by those who know stuff. Realistically there won't be forced induction in my future so modifications will be initially limited to things like big throttle body, ported intake manifold, headers (hsv ones look nice, compact and cheap) and cam. Maybe later on look at fitting better heads. What should I consider doing to the motor before it goes into the car? I have heard rumours of easy intake manifold modifications yielding results. Also what do I need to fit this motor to my powerglide? Are tq converters and flex plates similar between lsx and sbc platforms? I'll pop off the mains caps and check the bearings and Do a compression test to be 100% sure it's all good to go. And even better news- the guy I got the glide off let me know he found a b&m pro stick shifter he used in one of his old drag cars. Complete with cable AND cover which is a huge bonus- and he wanted 1/3rd new price so i didn't need much convincing. This is all coming together faster than expected which is nice. Plan is to have all parts together by next summer... Or the one after. Still need to buy and have made/fit Ls1 loom&ecu Strip loom Unlock ecu Drive shaft & hoop Diff + shortening Conversion front hubs and disks Light weight front calipers Fuel cell 044 pump Glass Guards+ bonnet Gauges Tunnel work Engine mounts Big radiator Plumbing everywhere Tires Extractors/exhaust Etc etc etc!! Cheers, Nathan

  36. Ha, car went back to the painters Tuesday morning to be fixed up, just went and viwed it again as its finished. I have come to the conclusion the painter is largely blind, and not overly skilled. The fix up work is fairly shit, and not much better than it was before (He seemed to think he fixed a dent in the steel by blocking back the paint? wat?) Its been touched up three times now, so I give up, and will just have to learn to live with the mediocre paint jhob, and never use them again. But on the bright side, I will have it back tomorrow, and back on the road within a few weeks!
