f100_dreamin
So this happened, nothing too major, and the smaller parts of the list should be done by the end of the week, leaving only sorting the rear airbags fouling on the diff/ brake line, and reworking the front shock mounts should sort 3 of the issues on the list, Guess there is a few more late nights and weekends in the garage,
Popular Post f100_dreamin
So the above list was remedied..........mostly, I may have missed 2 of the outer seat belt bolts, when I re-positioned the brake line to stop it rubbing on the airbag it turn out that I had moved it right into the path of the bump stop, I thought i had created enough clearance between the Tyre and the lower shock mount (I had shortened it by around 20mm when i did the rework on the shock angles) but still wasn't quite enough it turned out, And while i had stopped the bags rubbing on the diff, there still wasn't enough clearance so needed to sort that, so I: put 2 new bolts in the outer seat belt lower mounts, made a new brake line that ran onto the rear of the diff, as the original line couldn't be manipulated any more with out risk of kinking the line, as per Clint's suggestion I flapped disc'd the remaining thread that was stuck out past the lower shock mount nut, and gave the lock stops a tweak, I flapped disc'd down the weld seam on the diff and created an angled shim to sit between the top rear bag mount to roll it forward, not only did this create the clearance I needed it actually means that the bag is on a better angle when its aired out, that resulted in this: which resulted in a compliance pass, which lead to: Which mean we could get this: Pretty happy made my goal of getting the car legal for beach hop with 6 days to spare (must be an oldschool record haha), going to rack up a few miles this weekend before we drive it to Whangamata, pretty F#cking stoked to be honest, it drives great, nice and smooth, feels less boat like than it used to with the springs in it so I'm calling it a win!!

f100_dreamin
Added this sticker: Drove about 300 miles in preparation for beach hop, car ran flawlessly, drove to beach hop, car ran great again, after being here for a day or so, the want for a V8 has increased substantially, so watch this space once the weather is consistently bad enough for me to justify taking the car off the road until next summer,
Popular Post f100_dreamin
Well I still havent taken this off the road as we have been taking it out at every chance we can, also we still havent decided what we are going to do engine wise, a V8 is still at the forefront of the plan, but we have been toying with the idea of new manifold, dual carbs, and a split exhaust manifold, decisions decisions! We have put some new shoes on the old girl though,

f100_dreamin
So I’m going to start doing some things to this to make this more driveable for the wife, first step is front brake upgrade to boosted discs, To that end I’ve purchased a CPP kit from Chucks restoration, I looked at bringing a kit direct from the states myself but because I’ve bought a fair amount of stuff from Chucks they gave me a good discount which made it cheaper than brining it in myself, plus they had it on the shelf so win win, It includes everything to swap over onto my factory spindles, I could’ve got a kit that with 2” drop spindles, however that would’ve meant to get a reasonable ride height I would have had to run higher psi in the bags which would’ve made the ride quality rubbish. So that will be this weeks mission,
Popular Post f100_dreamin
Well as per usual the best laid plans came undone in regards to getting the brakes on the Belair, however it’s definitely for the better the guy who is installing the hoist came around last week, worked out where the hoist could go, and that he was available this weekend, or sometime in December, so instead of doing the brakes I was on a demo mission to make a bit more space in the garage, yesterday was D-day and I now have a hoist in my garage, it’s like all my Christmas’ have come at once, I’ve dreamed of this for many years but never figured it would happen. It’s not yet wired properly, so I’ve rigged a ghetto 10a connection up, today I will start on the brakes. Once that’s done I can get the scamp on the hoist and get into that.
Popular Post f100_dreamin
Old and lame New and improved To make the booster fit I had to relocate the oil filter housing, this meant I could use the oil bath air cleaner anymore, At a loss as to what to do, and struggling to find an air filter with a 63mm neck size (that wasn’t a ramflo filter) I figured I could make something work with the oil bath, I separated the top and bottom halves, and found that that would just sit above the oil filter. I made some measurements and found a round air filter that would fit inside, made a lid to stop air bypassing the filter and worked out a mount, and happily it all works, and the engine bay still looks kinda factory. Pics will follow tomorrow.
Popular Post f100_dreamin
Been a while since there has been anything to update on this old girl, the plan had always been to upgrade the 6 cylinder and manual to a V8 and auto for the ease of cruising, it will also provide the opportunity to upgrade to power steering and allow me to run an AC compressor as an air compressor for the Airbags. So just the other day I was able to pick up this from a friend, who had removed it from a customers pick up to replace with a crate 350, apparently it was a good runner when it came in to be replaced (aren’t they all though haha) my mate had planned to take it to a swap meet to sell, but never got round too it, and he ended up just wanting it gone from his workshop, so a deal was done and it’s now sitting in my garage, The numbers break it down to a 2 bolt 283ci (4.6 litre) engine. Nothing flash, but with a freshen up and a little cam it should do the job nicely luckily he also had a bunch of spares to give me too, Including an old school Offenhauser inlet manifold on top of that one of my friends has been stripping a VN V8 station wagon for the engine to put into his VL sedan. so in exchange for doing the wiring and a couple of the shit jobs he doesn’t want to do I now have a 700r4 to go behind the engine. will be a while away until anything gets done from here as the Plymouth is the main priority, but I’ll slowly be collecting bits and pieces for when the time is right!
