FIRST MEET??

If you are new to these meets here are a few points that may help; Most people usually show up between 7:00pm and 8pm ish. We roll down to get burgers and whatever else is available whenever we're hungry. We sit around either at Burgerfuel or back up top in the carpark and continue the yarns. Remember its always a casual affair, a place to yarn to mates and make new ones. An Oldschool car is not required at all, but if you've got one on the road then bring it and show it off!! Doesn't need to be flash or special.

And to be honest, many of us drive our boring modern daily drivers there anyway.

MOST OF THESE ARE COMMON SENSE. WE WILL PROVIDE A FEW GENTLE REMINDERS WITH THE NEW RULES BUT REPEAT OFFENDERS MAY BE ASKED TO LEAVE.

RULES AND THE BORING STUFF!!

Basically these are in place so we have a fun and friendly meet and leave the carpark clean and tidy like we were never there.

  • Take your rubbish away with you or put it in a bin, Use the public bins downstairs not the private ones belonging to the business up top
  • Smokers please don't dispose of your butts on the ground!
  • Please limit the ALCOHOL consumption. Its a public place and the Police/security regularly stop in and we don't want want anyone getting in trouble, We also don't want people leaving empties around.
  • You are welcome to invite a few mates, but please note you are 100% responsible for their behaviour
  • If you belong to other clubs and feel they might be keen to come check out our meet then that's cool but please see BDA780, Threeonthetree or 73crownwagon for permission before inviting them.
  • NO Skids or Reckless/Dangerous driving
  • Please leave a space near the fenced off area clear for the cleaners and don't block them in if they are there.
  • Park in a proper carpark! If its full then just use a bit of common sense and try not to park to many people in.
  • Newschool cars please park to one side and be prepared to move if we get short on space. I have had to ask Newer cars to move and park elsewhere and will continue to do so. The old cars get first preference for parking. Don't be offended if you're asked to move your newer car to make space for something old.
  • If its raining and we have to park downstairs then new cars park upstairs or out of the way. The covered carpark is very small and needs to be OS only,

If you have any suggestions or input for the meets then PM BDA780 , Threeonthetree or 73crownwagon Thanks!!

Hopefully a friend will be turning up in his '68 Dodge Charger. And I will be bringing something a bit different.

I've also learned how to publicise these monthly meets through the Oldschool Facebook page which is great because now the young people who only ever look on facebook for stuff to do will know about our meets, as per the other regions which have been posting their meet/meat details on facebook for some time.

Will that translate to a better turnout? I'm not too fussed as we do pretty well even in the colder months. But the more the merrier and hopefully we'll gain some members.

It's a good idea but the last time we did that it didn't go too well. Might be different this time

Last thing you want to do is bring in some of the dead head morons that hang out down at Quay Street. I know not all are dead heads, but yeah. You don't want some young cunt causing trouble.

I'm quite suprised no one has thought about bringing a full spill kit to the meet ups LOL. But who needs them.

think we need to organise some sort of american car cruise or something too...   keen?

I like the idea of that, but I don't want to stray too far from the Oldschool way of life which is to include pretty much anything so long as it's old or we like it.

I don't want to limit an event to just a particular type of vehicle. However I'm sure that if Dean turns up in the Charger you guys (and Ben) could come up with some sort of cruise and post it up on here.

I really think this is a good idea but I don't want to be the person to organise it. Plus I don't have an American car hahaha.

I have an American car!

Also, thread jack,

If you like American cars, there's a burger/Parkup night at Carl's junior in takanini on the last Thursday of each month started recently by my hot rod club (manukau rod and custom)

Should be 28th of this month.

They have a 'no jappers' rule because hot rod barrys. But

Merica! F**k yeah!

Ima start a thread on it actually

Less than a week to go now.

So since I've publicised the event on facebook I've received a fair bit of criticism. I don't mind as it's good to get the opinions of regular attendees.

For those who don't remember, we publicised the event via facebook quite a while ago (last year, maybe the year before? I forget). Quite a few more people turned up and they were generally pretty good, adhered to the rules and made an effort to talk to others. However there was a very small minority of approximately three cars and about the same number of people who ended up causing a bit of trouble.

With this in mind and the increasing numbers of potential members who know of us through facebook, I decided to mention the upcoming meet on our Oldschool.co.nz facebook page.

I have deliberately chosen this month's meet to try this out on for a couple of reasons:

- It's the middle of winter. So anybody who makes a conscious decision to attend will be battling the cold and possibly the elements. Essentially, it's easier to turn up to an event on a good day/night but much harder to do so when it's cold, dark and possibly raining. If anything the weather and season will be a deterrent for many, but if new members still show up despite this then it's an indication that they are probably genuinely keen to be a part of things.

- Being a winter meet, we generally have a lower turnout for the Monthly Meets. As such, there will be more parking space for potential new members and extra cars. The same cannot be said for the summer months.

Essentially I am expecting a few newbies to show up, having heard about the meet solely through facebook. Some of these people I know, some of them other members may know and the rest may be complete strangers. I have briefed a few members who will be attending to help me to both make the new members feel welcome and to help me re-iterate the rules and culture of our casual meets.

Rest assured, this will not be a bunch of cunts turning up to spoil or in any way ruin the easy going nature of the meets. Rather it is an opportunity to extend a welcome to new members who may share our interests but not have a particular group that they can turn to for advice etc.

All I ask is that if new members do show up, just make an effort to at least say hello to them. I'll be doing my best to hover around and talk to as many people as I can but some help would be greatly appreciated. And if you see anybody doing something that they shouldn't, please remind them of the rules. Again, I'll be doing this as well but it can't hurt to ask for help if and when required.

So it's basically going to be a standard Monthly Meet but with a few potentially new faces and cars.

As per usual I will be there and will have Oldschool stickers on me if anybody requires some, $5 each.

Hope to see you all there.
