Thought i would post up a build thread on my little red austin! little story , im only 16 and had been going past this car seeing it parked for about a year since it stopped working , i asked them if they wanna sell it and ended up getting it for $100 but it has quite abit of rust and a little diff/gearbox issue ive been told , so im planning to get it back legal and on the road for my first old school car :D

ive been told the engine runs good but im having trouble getting it started , when i spray engine start on the twin carbs it will cough and sometimes start but wont stay running dies instantly , i have  feeling its fuel related , maybe fuel pump??? im not sure though and dont really want to buy a new fuel pump if its still fine

GOOD NEWS-SHE RUNS!!!! well kinda , i had to bottle feed her fuel until she was running enough to start sucking fuel from the tank so she starts and doesnt die step 1 COMPLETE, there is always a but though....  she doesnt drive , the main reason she has been parked for a year and hasn driven there is something wrong in either the diff or gearbox because she just spins and doesnt move , im not sure what the problem is and if i have to go try find a diff or a gearbox but ill need to talk to someone about that as i dont have a clue whats wrong

Bad news today... with the help of mtbtimr from the forum we took the fly wheel and clutch off to see if the clutch was the issue but unfortunitly it wasnt.... this means the engine has to come out.

Hopefully someone on the forum has a engine crane i could borrow and give me a hand taking the engine out. Also better start looking for a new gearbox and diff, anyone know anywhere i should go ?

good progress today , got the radiator out and took me so long but finally got the carbs out with the help of a spanner cut in half as sugested in the haynes manual , not much left now until i can pull the motor

ran across abit of a problem though , dont have the key socket for one of the wheel nuts so idk how im gonna get that off any suggestions?

also made a start on some rust repair so ill continue tomorow trying to figure out how to take the intake manifold and exhaust on theres no space for me to get a spanner in there.

plus i need a name for the beast , old owner called it elmo not sure if i was keep it or change it up

i think this proves something did grenade itself in the gearbox or diff , should see tomorow when @guywithaviators comes round and we pull the engine and hopefully split the box

also i managed to find the wheel key and get the wheels off !

firstly i cant thank guywithaviators and mbtimr enough for coming round today and helping me take out the engine and pull it apart

day of up and downs today really got the engine out and pulled apart , but the diff and gearbox seem to be fine so the cause of the problem still hasnt been found , im gonna take the box to minibits tomorow and get him to have a quick look but is there is a problem it seems to be showing the faite of the car. there is alot of rust and if its gonna be an expsneive repair im going to consider parting the car out and hopefully get another rego/wof car with the money i get from parting it (if my mum lets me part it out in the back yard lol)

bit consued really on what to do know

took my gearbox to minibits and they said it was perfectly fine , they said may be axles or the shifter so i took those up they were perfectly fine then they said bring the clutch and flywheel set up and they were perfectly fine so not really sure on what to do , best thing to do might be put it back togeather and see if it works ???

not sure what im gonna do as im not really confident to try put the engine back togeather and do all the timing and stuff by myself

bit of a sad update. looks like the little red austin has finally reached the end after going into it a few days ago and finding the floor soaked ive come to the decision that its just too far gone. but its not all a bad thing ill be stripping and parting the car then scrapping the body but every cent i make is going towards another old school car.

does anyone have any recommendations for a cheap old school car? my dream car has always been a mk2 escort but highly doubt i can afford one of them.

if anyone needs or wants any parts off this feel free to message me cheers
