Popular Post sleeektoy
So... a day off sick(sick in the head maybe). I was bored, and looking at trademe and I stumbled upon a moped that took my fancy. So i brought it It turned out to be a 1959 VéloSoleX 1700 49cc - in completely rust-spec mint condition(rooted) ...christened P.A.M (pedal assisted motorbike) by my wife . . . If that wasnt bad enough, i found two more locally so naturally hit buy now on those too (now im really fu#$ked in the head) original purchase on the right - another 1959 1700 on the left and a very original 1961 2200 model in the middle I set about quickly dismantling a motor and learning the intricacies(breaking) of small 2-stroker motors. After a week of cleaning, honing, part hunting and reassembly - IT WAS ALIVE!! One day i shall have at least one looking awesome and be hooning down to the local patisserie - ordering le baguette and crumbing it all the way home.

10Speed
Second motor on the rear wheel idle conjecture; would that make it 100cc therefore a motorbike license would be required?

Popular Post sleeektoy
So... I have finally got one of the original "rust-spec" ones all sorted and took it for a skid 4Km later and chasing cars @50kph down a steep hill ..... i was officially - CERTIFIABLY NUTS!! It shall stay exactly as it is (bar some further mechanical maintenance) and be used + abused

sleeektoy
Nice thing with these bikes is that you can get almost everything new from France (very spendy though) I got the rims from this place: http://www.solex-parts.com/

Its back out on top of the bench and the bits are being worked on. Some primed bits some of the pitting I have been dealing with .. which I'm priming, then skim filling and sanding it, then high fill priming after

Popular Post sleeektoy
I had also reconditioned a whole pile of other bits. i unearthed all those today too.. Moteur all done - big-bore 50cc piston, honed barrel, new headlight and plastic side cover. Front mudguard and engine mount plates painted and everything plated. Including fuel tank that took way too many hours splitting it apart, panel-beating it, sealing it back up. still to be painted. before.. after.. Exhaust - gutted out and tidied up Brake calipers zinc plated and reassembled. New tail light and re-plated/refurbished bulb holder Tread plate cleaned up new mudflap + re-plated support handle bars re-chromed and everything cleaned + re-assembled. also new bell The auxiliary power units were re-chromed, nos pedals, and rebuilt main bearing and lastly - re-plated bolts throughout
Popular Post sleeektoy
Some pics of the wheels i restored. Rims and spokes were too far rusted to save. New rims, and spokes, and whitewalls. Plus cleanup and re-chrome of the German " Torpedo" single speed, back-pedal brake hub.

Popular Post sleeektoy
Tried my hand at painting some pin striping - not a bad 1st effort. I replicated all the factory stripes it originally had
Lord Gruntfuttock
Looking awesome. Mate had one and got it going ok, but cos he was a 130kg unit he still had to pedal with the motor going, so arrived a sweaty mess everywhere... 1
