Started on the gearbox tunnel today...

I wanted to keep as much rooms s possible and its a pretty big arse box..

So I started with some 25mm bix section and cut it down to angle. Then just cut and twisted it into the shape I wanted.

Then started on the panel

Been a wee bit slow at work so I took the manifold and a spear head to work to finished some things.

Finally finished turning the manifold into divided pulse to match the turbo.

Bought a new waste gate and mounted it in pretty much the only place I could.

Now just need to make a small pipe from the waste gate to the dump pipe.......thinks are getting tight now.

Special tool #37 ..this little brace it what you need when you make your own crossmember to mount the engine and then make everything else of the position of the engine ........only to find out you fucked the crossmember up!!!! .so special tool #37 it there to hopefully keep the engine in place while you remove and make another crossmember and engine mounts. . And just because I know the fucking thing will drop at some point I made captive nuts and bolts that will allow me to lift it 2" . On a side note my cube racing shifter turned up....

Sooooooooooo

I went into the garage today to make a start on the new cross member and engine mounts.

Well it was nice to see the jig I made work as I removed the old cross member not even once did the engine fall on my face and kill me......it did drop all of 2mm so I'll be able to get that back with winding up the adjustment bolts I put in the jig.

I tryed the new cross member in place but as I thought the sump was in the way .

So I will have to cut and weld some of the sump.

I removed the sump and bolted the cross member in place and as you can see its a wee bit close to the oil pick up but I think I can work around that.

As for engine mounts ....some of you know there are NA ,turbo and SC versions of the 1G and they came in tons of different Toyotas......... So not only are there a few types of engine mounts there are also 2 post ions you can joint the joints to the motor.

So with the cortina cross member in place and the alloy mounts I used on the last setup it looks like this.

But by using another set of mounts and moving them to the forward mounting position ....this happened

And I can still get the oil return in with a wee trim and if I use the factory mounts from the 1g I'm pretty sure it will all work nicly

The brace I made to hold the motor in 1 place worked very well

And the new cross member works well and uses all of the shelf Toyota mounts.

Also a plus to see everything else fits back on.

Slapped a 10" wide steelie on but it wouldnd clear the calipers but I think with the right size offset I will be able to get a 10" under the rear gaudes.

sooooo i pulled the inlet off to see if i can get the SC in there ....i was thinking in on its side and relocate the oil filter and shit.

but fuck me!!!! tons of room

post-5858-0-80348500-1474076163_thumb.jpgpost-5858-0-85969300-1474076197_thumb.jpg

even some room to play under it for a inlet manifold and some sort of intercooleing  ....me thinking water to air

post-5858-0-49878000-1474076261_thumb.jpg

was kinda thinking cut a section from an old cheap intercooler and make end tanks to flow in and flow out the front and pump cold water threw where the charge air would normaly blow and then the charged air from the SC threw where the out side air would blow.......if you know what i mean.

had planes to convert the mk5 to 5 speed this weekend but managed to partially de-glove my fun finger on Wednesday at work  so was going to make it hard to do...even got a cheeky look at the bone just sitting there as they peel the flap back.

so thought i would start making a template for the  caliper mount on the old mk2 rear end.

even tho i am pretty much make everything again i am going to try and get it cert approved the 1st time.

asking checking the hobby car manual and asking on our tech page i have decided to go 10mm plate , 1 piece ,   flat with no offset. and bolt on via all 4 bolts that hold the axle to the diff housing..so just need to make 2 brackets.
