ODBs rescued from the pond single speeder

New year, new project (nevermind constant V50 project)

Last few days seen this old bike in bottom of a pond on my local reserve.

Decided to get wet this morning and fish it out.

Here it is in all its glory / rustiness:

Old school single speeder with dyno for front and rear lights.

Might be some sort of old Rally banana or something:

Cant see any cracks in frame, wheels look true and aligned well and tyres in good condition - probably nicked but oh well.

Plans are sand frame, paint white, leave single speed, remove all the shite put some racer handlebars and new brakes and some bright wheels and ride it!

Starting to look clean

Front brake lever and caliper chillin like a villain in some white vinegar.

This stuff mows surface rust - here is the seat pole which was pretty covered in the stuff:

Given back brake the same treatment today and found a new front wheel for it at Around Again Cycles.

Waiting for a crank puller from fishpond so I can pull off that and send to be sand blasted and powder coated.

After that it's re-assemble, new brake cables and seat covered and ride

Found one of these beasts browsing the tard over Xmas so thats arrived now:

Rear hub / wheel getting dropped off at around again to get serviced and waiting for powder coaters to get frame , mud guard etc done.

Anyone got any good sources for re-chroming or polishing?  Want the mudguard holders smartened up a bit

Cool project.

I got one of those gear leaver things for the wife's bike but cant see for the life of me how it works. Keen to see pictures of how the cable fits into the unit. / I think my one might be a dud.

think there is supposed to be a pivot of some sort on frame just below seat post entrance.

The wire goes into the shifter where the arrow is facing away on the picture - if that makes sense and it pulls out / pushes in a chain that comes out of the rear hub.

Will try and track down a photo of a complete one for you

The cable is specific, you can get then from the cycle shop just south of south city mall, Cycle Trading. Or Velo Ideale, mad Dave.Probably need and indicator chain for the end of it as well.

I have a couple of the idler wheels and probably an indicator chain for the cable if you get stuck.

Shouldnt need the crank puller for cotter pin cranks? I dont even know if it would fit...? Theyre likely just rusted on a bit.

Try not to mash them too bad hitting the pins out, you can get new ones pretty easy for a couple bucks though.

Bottom bracket housings got me the first time i stripped one...didnt realise one side was reverse thread haha
