Popular Post sheepers
I've had this for about 3 years or something, can't remember. anyway its time for me to fix this thing and sell it. its a genuine TA23 ST. it left the factory with a 2TB but now has an injected 2TG in it. i drove it years ago when i first bought it and it seemed to work fine on the road, from my very brief investigations it appears to have new shocks, springs and bushes throughout. its rusty around the back of the rear wheel arches and in the sills just in front of the rear wheels which is standard for these. rest of it seems ok but TBH i haven't looks to closely. it has a sunroof in it and if i can convince my old pal Peter to remove it then i will. what else? umm, it goes and idles well but has an issue with slight throttle change. the wiring is a disaster so there is more than likely something up the shit thats causing the throttle issue. someone loved this car at some point because it has all the hallmarks of someone trying to do their best. the plate number is BSP something, or BP something, not sure but I'm sure it will end up here at some point. i have new screen rubbers for front and back, the proper grill for it, new seat belts and some other stuff that i can't remember. for wheels I've got some TE37V copies that i will make fit. 15x8's and 15x9's. my intention is to paint it red because the engine bay is red already and i can't be arsed taking the motor out, make it good and sell it. i have some pictures of it before it got pulled apart which ill post up at some point but for now these are all i have,
sheepers
this is what it looked like at some point before i got it. 77149993_full[1] by sheepers-ra28, on Flickr
sheepers
the last warrant it had was in 2005. i suppose its been off the road since then. did a couple of little jobs on it, new water pump installed. and installed a key that works, re-tapped all the threads and cleaned and re-greased the bearing. sheepers
i got the radiator re-cored and put it back in. while i was at it i put a new thermostat in it and flushed the coolant system. so for the first time since ive owned it ive been able to get it up to temp and see how it goes. first thing i noticed is that it doesn't have the throttle hesitation issue when its warm, it goes exactly as it should. the second thing that ive noticed is that it will do a skid. on a closed road of coarse. so its going fine, clutch and gearbox seem fine, its got brakes and the steering feels pretty good. - this is from my experiments driving it on closed roads yesterday you understand. also its not charging and none of the gauges work. this is no surprise, as i say the wiring on this thing is a disaster but ill fix that as i go. next up i suppose is to start doing the panel work. Popular Post sheepers
started doing the rust work on this. this is the most common rust area in these things. it had a few holes but i cut the whole thing out and made a new panel. I've sandblasted, rust killed then primed the piece behind this so its brand new. when its finished i plan to empty a couple of thousand liters of cavity wax in the gap to stop it rusting in the future. sheepers
did a bit more today. decided to split the skins and stretch the arches a bit and also fix the rust in the arch while i was at it. haven't finished yet but I've made some good progress today Untitled by sheepers-ra28, on Flickr Untitled by sheepers-ra28, on Flickr Untitled by sheepers-ra28, on Flickr Untitled by sheepers-ra28, on Flickr Untitled by sheepers-ra28, on Flickr Untitled by sheepers-ra28, on Flickr Untitled by sheepers-ra28, on Flickr
Popular Post sheepers
another day another progress. made a patch for the inner guard and welded it in. Untitled by sheepers-ra28, on Flickr Untitled by sheepers-ra28, on Flickr then i copper coated the inside and welded to patch onto the outer skin. Untitled by sheepers-ra28, on Flickr Untitled by sheepers-ra28, on Flickr after much tacking and many beating with hammer its all stitched in, Untitled by sheepers-ra28, on Flickr shape wise its pretty good and a quick skim of bog will get it perfect. Untitled by sheepers-ra28, on Flickr then i cut the rust/bad repair fuckup out of the back of the arch. Untitled by sheepers-ra28, on Flickr I've started making the piece for the back but its still got a bit to go yet. ill do some more on it tomorrow night.
sheepers
i went away for a week and I've been working on my scooter a bit but now its time to do some more work on this. i made the new part for the inner guard and welded that in. its way to big on the outer edge but ill fix that latter when i know what shape it has to be. Untitled by sheepers-ra28, on Flickr so then i had to fix the rust in the bottom of the inner and outer at the bottom of the guard. first cut out the rusty bits. Untitled by sheepers-ra28, on Flickr then make a new piece for the inner guard. Untitled by sheepers-ra28, on Flickr then weld that in. Untitled by sheepers-ra28, on Flickr i made a few bits to fix the bottom part of the arch but i forgot to take photos of that so you'll have to take my word for it. then i made a patch for the outer skin and welded it in. you can see around the edges that all the insides were primed with weld through copper primer before i welded the outer skin on. Untitled by sheepers-ra28, on Flickr all cleaned up. Untitled by sheepers-ra28, on Flickr still a bit to go on this guard but i should have all the rust repairs finished tomorrow and i can start finalizing the flare and stitching the skins back together.
sheepers
did more. the outer skin is finished and now I'm stretching the inner skin out to meet up with the new wider outer skin. once thats done i can re-fold the lip and square up the guard edge. should be able to do that tomorrow. we shall see. Untitled by sheepers-ra28, on Flickr Untitled by sheepers-ra28, on Flickr i got the bottom a bit wrong and didn't leave enough material on so ill have to weld a bit on here to fix this up but ill do that when the two skins are rejoined. Popular Post sheepers
today i finished stretching the inner guard out (which is a cunt of a job) and got the lines scribed so i could start folding the lip back into place. it dosent look like I've achieved much but i can tell you its been a long day. obviously there is still heaps left to do to get the lip right but getting to this point is good. sheepers
did a bit more today. started folding down the lip and clamped it up to see how it would come together. Untitled by sheepers-ra28, on Flickr after a few tacks its starting to come together. Untitled by sheepers-ra28, on Flickr and this is it all stitched back together. Untitled by sheepers-ra28, on Flickr Untitled by sheepers-ra28, on Flickr im not very happy with the result to be honest, i fucked up the folding of the first crease at the front and i didn't fix it before it was to late. its nothing that a skim of bog won't fix but still it could have been better. on the whole the result is acceptable and it will come up fine but id like to think i could do it better. the guard is now 15mm wider than it was but the important part is I've made it wider at the back part of the arch (where tires rub if they are going to) so there is more clearance there now.
sheepers
so, the other side. i ground back the massive amounts of bog to see what was hidden benith. no surprise, a few very bad repairs. Untitled by sheepers-ra28, on Flickr Untitled by sheepers-ra28, on Flickr this is how thick the bog is on the sill. i might have to make a whole new sill but we'll see when i strip the rest back. Untitled by sheepers-ra28, on Flickr this is a rusty bit at the top of the arch. Untitled by sheepers-ra28, on Flickr so its not as bad as the other side which will make life easier. ill start on this side tomorrow if everything goes to plan.
sheepers
the horror. it still amazes me that someone could be mongrel enough to do this level of "repair". this is the back of the piece i cut out of the rear guard. they didn't even cut off the rusty bits, they just smashed the whole lot in a bit then welded a patch over the top. the whole sill is just a disaster. there was a good 10mm of bog most of the way along and the best part is that it was done like this for no reason. there is no rust under the bog, they just decided to smash it in and fill it. i might end up making a whole new sill for the drivers side. Untitled by sheepers-ra28, on Flickr Untitled by sheepers-ra28, on Flickr so onto repairing the rust. the inner guard bit had a hole in it so i cut that out. ill make a patch for that. then make a bit for the outer. sheepers
made a bit and patched the inner. Untitled by sheepers-ra28, on Flickr then i made the patch for the outer. i need to get it as close to perfect as i could because i can't weld it in yet. the inner lip is rusty so i need to split the skins and repair it before i can weld this piece in. so this part won't get welded in until after the lip is stretched so i need to use it as a template to make sure I've got the bottom of the guard the right shape, hence needing it to be as close as possible. anywho I'm happy with the shape of it so ill move on to the next bit now. sheepers
i did a bit more tonight but only an hour or so because i wanted to watch top gear. so the drivers side sill was a disaster of fucked up mongrelisation which i cut off. iside i found mystery and woe. and a comb. Untitled by sheepers-ra28, on Flickr Untitled by sheepers-ra28, on Flickr thats the shit that came out of the sill. i reckon its never been cleaned out and that pile of garbage has been building in there since it was new. the thing that really boils my piss about how this thing has been repaired in the past is that it must have been pretty good on the whole with a little bit of rust but not to bad. why do i say this? because when you get rid of the awful repairs and the rust that should have been removed the last time round you find that the car is actually in very good condition. this is inside the sill once i cut the hammered in bit off. its better than my blue car looked. Untitled by sheepers-ra28, on Flickr so anyway i folded a new piece for the sill and began fitting it but didn't get to far with it. ill carry on tomorrow night. sheepers
forgot to mention that after my lecture on how to cut a straight line i made a complete dogs breakfast of cutting the piece out of the sill. HA! what a dick!
sheepers
i had a look at the blue car and realised that the top of the sill actually has a little radius in it (which is filled with bog on this car) so i had to put a radius in the bit of sill i made. once id done that i then had to hammer a step in the end because thats how it was originally, the rear part of the sill overlaps it and there is a visible seam there which i want to have in the finished car. so, this bit now fits and is finished. Ive started making the rear part of the sill now. Untitled by sheepers-ra28, on Flickr Untitled by sheepers-ra28, on Flickr
sheepers
painted up the inside of the sill with some etch primer. Untitled by sheepers-ra28, on Flickr then fucked around for ages trying to get the new sill piece to fit right. in the end its not prefect, its got a twist in the top piece right at the end of the door which is a bit shit but its there now. you won't see it when its finished but yea, i was a bit pissed off with getting it wrong. Untitled by sheepers-ra28, on Flickr then i made the back part of the sill and welded that in. i haven't finished welding it yet but its pretty close. Untitled by sheepers-ra28, on Flickr Untitled by sheepers-ra28, on Flickr with a bit of luck ill get some more done tomorrow.
sheepers
did a bit today but had a bad attack of can't be fuckeditus. finished the welding of this bit and i made the little corner bit that goes around the bottom corner of the door shut then i went inside. Untitled by sheepers-ra28, on Flickr
sheepers
you can see in the picture above that each end of the weld seam had a rusty bit so I've fixed both of those. Untitled by sheepers-ra28, on Flickr and i patched the rusty bit right at the top of the arch. Untitled by sheepers-ra28, on Flickr that bog patch bit at the top is a dent about 20mm deep and about 40mm long. i have no idea how this was caused but it looks intentional. can't even begin to imagine why that was done. anywho, split the skins and stretched the outer. its close to where it needs to be and the shape is not to bad at this stage. couple of little rust bits to fix and i ca start stretching to inner back out to meet then re-fold the lip. might do that tomorrow night.
