Popular Post kpr
Done heaps on this, but not a lot exciting update wise. All the suspension pickup points are welded on properly, diff is finished. Added limit straps and another cross brace. brakes. Having a bit of mare with springs. tried to cheap out and use some i had hanging around, but didnt go to plan. still gotta get more springs andchange it around, but how it is below should be ok for a test run
Popular Post kpr
Roughly threw on fuel tank (Stu my good friend says hes gonna make me a sweet ali one... ) and some other bits together, so could test a few things. Seems to be working well apart from a few drama's. Brakes don't work, need bigger master cylinder im thinking. and the spring situation. some soft 10" springs should fix that. Droped the clutch with a few rev's, and the ass didn't jump up in the air or squat from what i could see. so the 4 link angles must be pretty close! Extra light weight version. / Show us your 4age
Popular Post kpr
Trying to get this junk ready for next weekend. Put new springs in, 200-100-20lbs. sits a bit high still, but seems to work good otherwise. maybe shocks are a little hard. built new exhaust. put on trail gear transfer case e brake, which was a big heap of shit tbh. still need to get cable shortened or get later model cable. mounted recovery point. then got bored and drove over shit
Popular Post kpr
vid from today, taken by the bro. nothing broke other than crashing into a tree haha. it doesn't really turn so well. but seems to go places in a straight line, if you hold on for the ride.
Popular Post kpr
Few more vid's from Thor, who invited us along. Brother was doing some epic mud drifts in the safari. one at start of this vid was super weak compared to others, but doesn't look like anyone caught the good ones on film.
Popular Post kpr
Pulled the front diff apart today. auto locker out and: Eaton e-locker in its place. same deal as an air locker, but less stuff to go wrong. Auto locker will go in the back. couple more pics Stu took of the possum palace day
kpr
Got the front locker in. but noticed something wasn't quite right with one of the hubs. the outer gear on the right is a stock toyota gear. top half of the left is a trail gear "longfield" chromemoly inner hub gear. machining looks pretty rubbish to me. has high and low points all over it. guess this would load up the outer gear weird and cause it to break? thoughts? can see it top right best. Also chopped some chrome off while it was apart. truck has always sat on the piss, as can see in this pic. i just discovered they are spose to have different springs left to right. to compensate for different height spring perches. haven't looked into it yet, but wouldn't surprise me if someone has had it apart and mixed them up.
Popular Post kpr
So i pulled the leaves out of the front. looked like they were around the wrong way. as drivers side had more curve in it. swapped them over, now it leans to the other side even worse haha. might swap them back. hub finally arrived. time to go out and test the new locker.. this is with front locker in and auto locker rear. so all 4 locked. did a couple after this with the front locker disengaged , was far more controllable. so im guessing thats a sign it should be a whole lot better doing 4wd stuff, as well as doing helis like a munta
Popular Post kpr
been doing/ redoing a lot of small stuff, that either got thrown together or just didn't happen at all, before the last 4wd day. replace the bias valve with a non rusty one. still has issues locking rear. although haven't tested it on the seal on street wheels. just so light in the ass, might move things like the battery to the rear get some weight back there chopped the shit out of the farmer tray and made a light weight frame to hang the shell on. just needs some thin ply on there. changed exhaust, think this is number 4. last one just got biffed on and ended under the gas tank, which was real choice. rangi muffler muffler side ish exit Lets go farm the land Looks far more hectic flexing with the farm tray on. starts to tuck a tyre even Oh and i finally fixed the lean! sits level for the first time ever

Popular Post kpr
Sick of my good engine getting covered in so much crap. Filled the holes between chassis and body with some rubber and ali where the rubber would melt, by drop pipe etc. Along with the under tray, should stop most of the crap going on front half of engine at least. Made a heat shield. Goes here It heat soaked pretty bad when driving around slow/parked up, when 4wding/waiting for geezers having a chat and 12 lunch breaks. I had thought about mounting the radiator under the tray. but feeding it air and not mud was too much drama. plus half the problem is heat from manifold and turbo. heat wrap would turn into a big mess. so rather elaborate heat shield it is. seems to work pretty sweet so far. These things are pretty squishy at 4psi. have something on the way to sort that.

kpr
Have taken this out a few times. Got the front bead lockers on for the first day. the 2nd pair hadn't arrived. plus they wont fit over the rear brakes. Tyres seem to seat on the inner bead real easy. Turns out they also fell off real easy. only about 10mins in one went flat. put more air in this time. then later in the day the one on other side fell off the bead. Inner beads were too loose and burping air, then tyres just go flat of fall off. after some googling. it seemed to be a problem with some tyres rather than the rims. but my tyres in particular didnt get mentioned. after measuring the china steels. vs the beadlocks the china spec rims were at least a few mm bigger than the bead locks. so thinking the china wheels may have stretched the tyres if thats possible.. anyway, found all sorts of dodgy fixes. but ended up giving duct tape a jam. let them down to 4psi and tried to smash them off the rims in some ruts. seemed to hold fine?! parked up on side of rut, tyre folded up past rim lip, no leaks. seemed legit, so ready to take out again Grump. Also somewhere along the way cut the bottom off the gearbox x-member for more clearance doesn't hang down too bad now
Popular Post kpr
Weekend just gone took it out again. no drama's with tyres leaking or falling off. was a good day. mate took a few pictures. mate brought his suzuki beater along (previous owner rolled it) and tried to use it as a submarine the hiway maker

kpr
Brought a new smaller turbo. casting on these are pretty average But whats inside matters right? Its a GTX2863r. slightly bigger than a "disco potato" and has the later billet wheel, so good for bit more power. uses the same exhaust side as what was on there (GT2876r). So it bolted into my existing exhaust housing, only needed to adapt the intercooler pipe and airbox Before and after says it comes on boost about 400rpm earlier. and seems to run a touch more boost. afr bang on same other then where its on boost earlier, pink lines old turbo: So If you bothered looking at log above and got keen eye. you'll see its running 2 degrees advance. because of -15degrees transient trim.. I put the trim in after i took it out for the first trip, to try stop it going bunny hop spec over bumps. basically making it gutless when stabbing the throttle. Which worked ok, but i obviously didn't check what happened when mashing the throttle for some boost or just generally driving, then likely left it in the shed for months before driving it. Next drive just thinking its normal for a heavy pig with 4age. Anyway in the runs above it would pull 15degree when stabbing the throttle around 2500rpm and ramp the timing back in at around 5000rpm. after messing with the settings and getting it to work how it should, fells like lost about 500kg haha. goes so much better down low with same top end. This is after fixing the ignition timing. can see how the timing effects how it comes on boost. 400rpm later than with retarded timing, since its not firing half the charge out the exhaust.
Popular Post kpr
Went on another run with a few mates yesterday, truck went all good. Seems to have plenty of grip with low tyre pressures. Have been running roughly (need a low psi gauge) 4psi front and 3psi rear last few runs, with no drama. Fixing tune and changing turbo has made it a bit easier to drive, Poser shot by Stu, at top of the palace Some vids mate took. skip to 3:30ish if you're impatient and just want to see a skid
