Hey,

I've had this thing for 12 years now so thought I would show OS what I'm up to... (sorry in advance for the iphone photos)

post-17572-0-63115200-1404333355_thumb.jpg

It was my first car and have held onto it since, when we bought it, it had the same paint job as now but was standard otherwise with a 1600 in it.. Since then the first things we did were mk2 front struts / brakes and a weber twin throat carb.. A few years later we added series 4 rx7 seats, a 1700 xflow with 40mm dellortos, a 1600 sport gearbox and the hotwires..  And most recently which was a few years ago now were princess 4pot calipers and a T50 gearbox that was found at the wreckers with a custom bell housing to suit xflow...

Other than that it's been a mixed life of daily driver / parked up getting rusty.. Anyway some more photos in it's current state

I'm removing the interior at the moment to tidy the floor up.. Finally have a garage to park it in too after years of it sitting outside so I have some new window and door seals to throw in there as well

From what I can see so far the floor doesn't look too bad, I'm expecting some surface rust etc... I was able to get Josh aka Mr mk1 to work his magic on most of the rust last year which has been epic, he did such a good job..

Progress will be kinda slow at the moment as the car is stored at my partners which is 45 min away...But at the moment motivation is high to work on it when I can..

Cheers guys

Nick

So I should have been working on this thing more lately but haven't spent much time lately where I keep it and when I did make it there this weekend the escort decided to work for a change so I took it for a drive...

So that was awesome, I think that since it has a warrant for another month I better make the most of it, who knows when it will be road legal again!

This last photo is why I should be pulling the interior out, the carpet is very worn out and moldy but I'll get round to it soon...

Update time..

I spent Saturday pulling out the drivers seat and the rest of the interior. The carpets were so old and rotten they basically fell apart.. I managed to get the majority of the old under seal off the floor but there's some areas where it's super well stuck down so I'll attack that with a chisel or something, I hear that's a good trick to getting it off with dry ice?

Once that's done the plan is to wire brush the floor then prime it with a rust type primer and put in my new carpet which I picked up of trademe..

I've found a couple small rust holes so will try find someone who can weld them up before I go to much further.. Do any chch locals on here know anyone who may be keen for a cashie welding job / someone who's capable?

A few pics..

I also picked a Autosport seat up off another member a few weeks back so while I had the seat out and got sick of cleaning surface rust I sat it in the car and made some broom broom noises!

Looking forward to getting the interior back in and the car back on the road:

Question time.

What's the trick with dry ice for removing under seal and where can you get it from?

Should I put underlay under the new carpet when it's ready to go back in?

Cheers

So chipping away at the under seal with a chisel was getting me nowhere fast so I picked up some dry ice and decided to give that a crack... It made me angry that I didn't listen to that suggestion earlier and do it right from the start...

I stripped the entire floor in maybe an hour compared to the day and a half It took me to start two areas and get over it / start drinking heavily...

Only issue now is it makes the drivers floor look even worse than before..

Anyway can proceed now with stripping surface rust etc... Sorry boring update..

On another note, the front coilovers are going to take me a while longer than expected to get in the car due to a lack of the $$$, does anybody have a cheap pair of lowering springs for an escort they don't need anymore? Pref in the chch area. Because reverse rake is shit..

Been a while no updates and little progress but I have done some things to the escort.. Finished rust prepping the floor and tidying that area up, so a couple weekends ago I fitted the new carpet I bought of trademe.. Pretty stoked on the finished result, it's tidied the interior up so much..

I've also replaced the door and boot rubbers but that isn't very exciting so I wont put up photos of that. So this weeks mission is a WOF, be pretty keen to have this road worthy over the holidays so fingers crossed there's no majors there..

Been a while...

The car has been sitting in the garage for the last 2 years or something not doing much. I have been slowly hoarding away parts and with our first baby on the way decided it's time to get motivated and do some stuff with it..

I got these wheels from another member up North ages ago, they're supposed to be from a formula ford or something. I've had them stripped, powder coated and fitted up with 175/60 A539.

I had bought a set of MK1 struts converted to coilover ages ago but as my car already had a MK2 front end and I had a spare set of MK2 struts I sold the MK1 struts and Chris from suspension tech in Pukekohe built up my MK2 struts.

This is the finished result of new wheels plus struts.. (this was taken a couple years ago pre coilover)

and now..

I'm super stoked on how the car is coming along.. I've been planning this in my head for the last 10 years almost! The next step is go for a WOF, hopefully it will pass at the local shop out here in Waipara but I'm not overly optimistic with the lack of cert for coilovers.
