001eek.jpg

Still have to get rocket cover gasket finish the manifold and hook up the new fuel pump and get the fuel pump blocker so in the weekend should be ready to drive also started finishing off the inside to.

So it's almost there but the alarm is giving us greef. And the fuel pump died before we started so it had to be changed. I wanted it running today but my auto electric skills suck at best. So if anyone that can do that stuff is free tomorrow and wants to see if they can make it run. PM me.

So there has been a few things going on We got her going on Saturday but not with the bike carbs on. Just the webber. But it goes well big cam likes to rev loads of fun. It's gone back to the workshop today to have a wheel alignment and get the carbs put on. Its needs a warrant and there is a vibration in it at 100km plus so need to get that worked out. I think its the drive shaft. Having the dizzy rebuilt as well so I can get the timing better to suit the cam.

Heat wrap on the headers has gone white and started to get holes in it which is strange. Only done 250km. Might try and push to get the 3.5 diff head back in it as well. Still a lot of stuff to be put back in and only a couple of weeks to go. Almost a new car now with all the new running gear that has gone into it.

So happy with the engine so far now I want to build a bottom end bored out to maximum and few other things. I still have standard values in the head that could do with an upgrade.

Was meant to put it back together on Sunday. Couldn't help myself had to drive it around instead 8)

So its been out a few runs the last couple of weekends no bike carbs on yet. They will have to wait to close to next weekend now. There are more pressing problems it has loosened the header bolts twice in less than 500 kms and lost a stud as well today. And the diff has started leaking out the front and there is a bad vibration in the car to. Either gearbox or drive shaft. So loads to be done this week.

001kuau.jpg

All the car is back together now all the carpet in and all the interior done to. Warrant was a clean sheet and it handles very nice now with the wheel alignment done.

It went up on a hoist today needs a new hanger bearing and the diff needs repairing so I should be able to get the rebuilt diff head back in. Just got to find a hanger bearing in time. Then it will be all quite I hope. And ready to go. Not many days left now.

One piece drive shaft fitted test drive showed that it still has a vibration. So diff is being rebuilt now. I wanted to leave in an hour lol and I have a buckled rim to add to the problems to solve before leaving to go to the nationals.

So been busy since the nationals. When it only had the webber on it. Got the bike carbs on and running but there are issues

the exhuast wrap went from this,

sport4002.jpg

To this after 500km thanks Red Line nobody seems to know why or can explain why.

007ibb.jpg

Then there is the way it runs. It bogs down badly till 3000 rpm so I played around with the needle jets with no joy

006pek.jpg

008gi.jpg

But after 3000 rpm it just lets lose and goes the cam lets it rev all the way to 7000 rpm. Then there is the fuel smell very strong in the car even for someone that doesn't mind the smell. I have sorted out some air cleaners just socks have them on order .

Have been given a nice crome oil breather tank but still have to fit it yet starting to run out of room might move the battery to the boot got a nice new large one 600cca

005sg.jpg

The brakes still need to linked into the vacuum they are very hard at the moment so research has been pointing the way towards a cylinder type set up not sure where I'm going to put it just yet.

The inside is starting to look very tidy

003bea.jpg

So loads still to do yet just to get running well. And it goes back to get the front bearing in the diff replaced the preload was wrong and it killed the front bearing already so should be all quiet by Wednesday night meeting.

So been a while Had to get a new alternator gave up repairing the old one some times you just have to draw a line in the sand. Diff been though it's second rebuild still there is a problem . It's at steely diffs at the moment having some adjustments done.

Bought a temp diff that was ment to be a 3.9 lock diff just for a little fun. Turns out when I took the head out that it was a 4.4 with 9inch brakes in it so bit of a score on that deal.

Put a new set of 9.8mm leads on big difference to the way it runs now. Fuel pump died number two now have a loan one thanks to bmac. Till I decide on what type of one to get any ideas welcome needs to be 3-4 psi.

Bike carbs are off for the moment till I sort out the other issues. The vibration is a real problem . Had the drive shaft balanced last week no real problem there. So next is change the gear box.Been offered so many reasons why I have a vibration. None have fixed the problem as yet. Idea's welcome

Currently putting new springs into my seats how hard could it be????

It does have a lot up and go now for a little car

So went to the All ford day in Hamilton not bad loads of cars there not enough Old School members from Auckland. Went ok but had drilled my jets out to 1.7mm and I'm running way to rich now and have dstarted to bog down again and use heaps of gas. So another set of jets and back to 1.6mm and move the needle jet and see what it starts running then.

Have 3 gear spare gear boxes now going to build one good one out of 3 also have some new bearings for the gear box. The lighten fly wheel has different ring gear on it so I still have to wait to get it on.

Photo's on the next post.

Gear box rebuild is not a walk in the park but over 70% of the way into it now not far. Got the thermostat sorted over the weekend. Bought all the stuff to build new door cards I feel I can do better. Getting ready for a track day only a few things to get done now. Quite sure I need a better seat than the factory ones.

Well a few thing is quite a lot of jobs but the gear box is all done

007dwc.jpg

So tomorrows job is change the ring gear on the fly wheel and put the lightened fly wheel in and new gear box

008toz.jpg

so fingers crossed I will have lost all the noise. Not much drive line to be replaced now and the whole lot will have been replaced

Still playing around with the needle jet setings with the bike carbs. I know where it runs the best now so one more change and should be all done with those. Starting the new door cards tonight . Got some new clips

009kct.jpg

so all the trouble I had last time will not be there and have gone for 3mm mdf instead of ply so I'm hoping for a better result this time .

Track day never came about so booked one for the 28th of this month. Burnt out the ele fan so back on with the old one for now till I find one that fits.Put the new alternator on killed 3 so far so got a 70amp one I hope it can keep up. car seems to be starting so much better all ready. So now I have a month to put the 24mm sway bar on sort the brakes out. and I have been lucky enough to find a close ratio MK3 2lt E gear box so I need to get a bell housing and a shortend drive shaft as well.

Also picked up a 3.9 diff thinking about going with a turbo instead of bike carbs any one else have ideas ??
