1962 mk2 zephyr

ok so long story short we were going to move back to the u.k next year but planes have changed and my mk1 van is no longer in my hands.

so my wife said i should find myself a new project be for our grils go back to preschool and we are left with no money so i did

and here we have my new project 1962 mk2 zephyr

its all there just missing motor ,box and diff and it also comes with a complete 61 mk2 zephyr thats just rotten

but the good one comes stripped and on a spit and i got it home today

the plates are dead but i do have all the papper work for it including the old cert pappers for the 351,c4 ,lowered ,wide wheels so i think i willl put it back to the same as that.

so i managed to get a few hours in the garage today

i started to weld the tuneel back in as i find the bits

i also started to strip sections back to metal clean them up .straighten all edges

and POPR15 as i goo along

i do need to get some more wire wheels and shit to strip the rest back.

i did have one disc there but i shattered and hit me right in the cock i felt like it took the old boy clean off

but after inspecting the damage its all there lol

still stripping the underside still i wee bit more on this bit but so far still no rust

1st coat of POR15 i will do the 2nd coat when its all bee stripped and had the 1st coat

i have had a change of heart with this old girl now i have my van/toy back to play with

ive decided to completly restor this to origanl as i possably can.

this is just a small update as to where im heading with this.

ive had a image in my head of how i want it to look and after doing alot of searching and with the help

of simon at classic ford mag in the u.k he found some pics of a mk2 i was after and this is the look i want

i am going to do it black but depending on the body im going to do it all in POR15 there some samll details on this that are differant like colour coded light surrounds and door chrome,no bumper over rides and i think it all works nicly.and even down to the wheels.

as for a motor i was going to do v8 then a wanted to put a falcon 250ci in with the colum change manaul

but i have decided to go for xf ute or later 4,1 alloy head injected motor and cloum change auto but im going to turbo the fuck out of it and im thinking off a hilux diff.

so thats the idea nice black sleeper.

sorry for this full on no pic update.

im going to try my best to get this on the road and driving and ready for a re-vin( standard motor and all including standard paint) by the end of summer.

that may sound easy but its not an escort if it was i could pretty much pick up a bolt and know where it goes but i have never played with one of these and it is completely stripped even the doors have been stripped out and the motor i have is in the other car i havnt picked up yet and hasnt been used for 30 years lol.

so let the fun start oh and i have no money and fuckall time.

so tonight after we got the girls to bed i done some more of welding the bits cut out of the engien bay back in.

there are 2 bits still to find in the boxs and boxs of shit i have with it.

the under side,inside floor and boot are pretty ,uch all stripped back and POR15 and im hoping to have it all undesealed

with in a couple of weeks.

over the week end i have managed to get all the firewall and tunnel weled back in and sealed.

i only had to make 3 bits that i couldnt find.

i also got the underside,inside ,engine bay and boot undersealed.

i will also be picking up the other car next sunday but its all rusted sold and we will have to put it on the trailer with the tractor he has up there and to get it off i think im going to chain it to the garage and pull the trailer out from under it.

the main problem i have is that all that rusted sold running gear in the car is the same running gear i need to be using lol.

sorry pistureless update

i got the enginebay loom out of the parts car checked it all out i had to repace 1 wire so thats ok.

my shell now has a complete loom in it and i have also got the heater all inaswell.

the motr in the parts car has been sat for aprox 30years and i could not get it to free up or even trun a wee bit but seeing as

these engines are getting harder to find and when they do come up people want shitloads for them.

so i have decided to rebuild this 1.

i got the head off and stripped the iexhaust valves moved freely and came out easy the inlet on the other hand were stuck solid

and took some work to get out.

the rocker arm was all rusted up and not moving but i managed to get it all striiped aprt and is not soaking.

there is a company here in chch called enford and the guy there has said that he will have any parts i need.ill rebuild the head then start on the bolck.

i got the rest of the motor and box out today and strated to strip the block down and man everything was stuck solid i have got it all apart but there are still 3 pistons that are stuck and ive left them with crc sitting in the bores.

it looks to have been rebuilt at some point the pistons are 30thou over and all the bearings are 10thou .but no major scoring or marks so.

im pretty confudent i can rebuild it.

the clutch and pressur plate look like new and was home to some big arse spiders.

thats all for now.

just a small update

i have heared the th vacume wipers on these things were utter shit.

even my old man said they would cut out if you were going up a hill.

so ive been looking at changing the to electric now while im building it.

so i stole the wiper motor from the van and welded up it.

took a little bit of fucking round and sorting the arm a bit here and a bit there.

but long story short mk2 zephyr wiper arms.make brackets and bolt mk2 escort wiper motr up.

so now i have 2 speeds

i got around to painting the engine bay as well as pulling aprt the heater,pedal box and crossmember and rebulding them aswell as POR15 as much as i can

i also stripped nearly 50 years of underseal,dirt and shit off the fuel tank and POR15ed it
