Seedy Al
I was hoping to have it running tonight. But either the battery that repco sold me isn't as charged as they said, or my starter motor is pooped. Either option is possible. Pretty sure I have a spare starter motor or 3
Liam-B
Had more engine swaps than most now haha. Is this one a keeper?!
Seedy Al
Yeah man. Rebuilt so hopefully reliable as an m motor can be, and converted to column shift auto and bench seat for max cruising. Wagons don't need to be fast.
igor
+1 for column shift and bench. Do you need a cert for changing from buckets to a bench?
Liam-B
Bench seat and column sounds lush and pretty much the only way to roll in a wagon. 3 speed auto or 4?
Seedy Al
Na every thing is straight bolt in so its all legit. Besides replacing the section of floor where the hand brake used to be. As it now has dash style mounted hand brake also. 3 speed with over drive.
Liam-B
Nobody would even know these days if the seats were supposed to be bench or not anyway. What VTNZ are you taking it to in welly? Are they easy going or a bit hard out these days on old cars?
Seedy Al
Swap the battery I bought yesterday for one with 60 more cca and gave it a charge. Once I had built up oil pressure and plugged the coil back, this started straight away. Was a bit surprised. Still seems to have idle issues when warm. However I have not set timing or anything. Need to clean over flow bottle so I can jam that in and fit radiator cap. Then once its warm I can attempt another tune. The little manual I have is pretty good for setting these carbs up. Tho am a little worried that it might have a vac leak in the throttle spindle. We will see.

Seedy Al
Lol pretty much. Hopefully can get it close enough with out pulling it apart for a rebuild
Seedy Al
Well this evening was a bit of a fuck around. Had car running, set timing which was so close was lol. Running away getting warm and then suddenly it just dies. Wtf is this shit. No spark it would seem. Checked some stuff and swapped coil with no joy. Dissy I was using had one of those magic boxes in it. Would seem it failed. Luckly I had hoarded a factory electronic ignition system for this. So swapped every thing over and back to key starting like a boss. Still idles like a cunt. I neeeeed to buy a better throttle spring tomorrow and have a crack at tuning. Tho I do truly suspect rhe carb needs a rebuild. Should aliexpress one for lols.

tortron
How many ohms is the coil
Seedy Al
No idea. Will check tomorrow. What you thinking?
KKtrips
You aren't using a 6V coil by chance? It requires a ballast resistor if so. The primary resistance in a 6V coil is 1.5ohms and a 12V is 3.0ohms (ballast resistors are normally 1.5ohms) (I'm going from old memory so I could be wrong)
Seedy Al
Both the coils I have are genuine nippon denso ones. All og.
Steelies
memories - starlet alternator shat itself and would test up fine at idle, then jizz out 17V or more when being driven. ??
