so as i said in spam some cunts tried to steal this car. they didn't get very far, my neighbour stopped them in the street.

but - they fucked the key barrel and somehow they managed to fuck the clutch/driveline to a point where there is no drive at all. wont know what they did until i pull it to bits which will probably be in the next week.

Swan insurance have been fucking magical in working with me to fix whatever has been done. at this stage paying for whatever it is in the driveline thats fucked is a given but they also want me to pull the motor apart for a bit of an inspection to make sure they didn't ruin the motor in anyway (they had the thing pinned on the limiter for about 2 minutes which is why my neighbour got suspicious and went out to have a look) so im going to pull the sump off and a couple of caps and maybe the head too.

 

so yea, i have to pull it all to bits but it could be way worse.

engine/gearbox removal.

it begins. i thought it a good idea to do a compression test before i took the motor out. very consistent readings of between 160 and 170. 

well, on the front 5 cylinders there was, number 6 however decided that 70PSI was the most it could muster. 

so the motors fucked and will need a rebuild.

tomorrow more motor disassembly .

i took the sump off and had a look up its bum to see if there was anything obvious wrong with the piston but i couldn't see fuck all so i took the head off which resulted in still not being able to see fuck all wrong so then i took number 6 piston out and i think i might have found the problem.

the flares turned up and they are premo. really well made and they will fit really well.

so.

after a BUNCH of fucking around and getting dicked for a few items that should have been covered by insurance i finally got a payout to fix my blue car.

 

without wasting everyones time with details the result was that the insurance company would pay for a new gearbox, a secondhand engine and a few sundries.

so i bought this,

2J short block, gasket set, new oil pump and a new R154.

if i hadn't of just sold the red car i wouldn't be able to afford this and i would have had to buy a second hand 1J. but i have just sold the red car so its splurge on shit time!

I've also bough a new manifold which ill post some pics of when it gets here but its pretty special.

now its time to put it all back together and make some mods along the way.

should be interesting when its back on the dyno…….

motor is coming together slowly. 

waiting on some parts to turn up before i can get the head finished and back on.

should be able to assemble the sump and whatnot next week and hopefully my parts should turn up from the states next week too.

much fucking around waiting for parts and changing my mind on things has resulted in it still not going yet.

however the motor is in the car for permanent (this time round) and the only major bit I'm missing at this point is the intake manifold.

 

so, whats been done?

modify and strengthen the gearbox crossmember mount to bring it up to current cert regs

head has been hardness tested, cleaned and reassembled with new stem seals. valves re-seated and stage 2 BC cams fitted.

powerhouse racing pulley kit

ATI harmonic balancer 

titan adjustable cam gears

gates blue cam belt 

NZ EFI ultra high output coils with built in igniters  

other things.

 

the block came with no engine number so i thought id better put one on it so i can identify it if i need to for whatever reason.

after many, MANY long nights and heaps of help from friends its just about ready for its first start.

Brendan is coming over friday to help me get it running and do a preliminary road tune so i can run it in.

there have been issues along the way to get it here but its ready to go now.

done all of about 11Ks in it but it definitely feels different, like way more torque, WAY more.

i think one of the cam seals is leaking so ill chuck a new one in it tomorrow and i don't like the clutch master (its really light and has to much travel) so ill chuck the next size up on it tomorrow as well.

then, drive it.

did a hundred odd Ks in it today with no issue.

had a couple of issues that are a bit weird/stupid.

firstly the fuel rail came loose, or i didn't tighten it properly which resulted in it having weird vacuum issues at idle. caused it to be a bit rich but that problem is fixed.

secondly the crank angle sensor shit itself or some reason so i need to replace that.

and finally the turbo bearings went fucked. i made the oil drain to small and it pushed oil out the seal into the exhaust but that shouldn't have had any effect on the bearings. they definitely had plenty of oil. but for some reason both shaft bearings and the thrust bearing are fucked. very strange that one but thats what happened.

so I've fixed the oil feed and drain, ill order a new crank angle sensor tomorrow and Brendan is fixing the turbo.

in theory it should be back on the road by the end of the week.

so it turned out to be the crank angle sensor polarity was around the wrong way.

its all fixed now and Brendan gave it a road tune up to about 14psi. haven't driven it more than around the block yet………...

yea, so it goes really well now. 14 pounds equates to about fuck all rpm so its interesting  to drive. its got a LOT of pull from basically idle and it makes boost almost instantly. the joys of a small turbo i suppose. 

now to do some more Ks in it and see if anything wants to have a melt down.

it would be nice if this is the end of things shitting themselves.

Richard who bought the red car got some angry ducks laser cut for hit center caps and he gave me a set to play with.

i made some combination hub centering rings/center caps the other night so i thought id attach the ducks to them.

the plan is to paint the ducks and the cap screws blue then clear over the whole lot.

probably have a crack at that tomorrow.
