  1. i've finially gotten some straight answers after ringing heaps and heaps of people. silvia park vtnz will do a re-reg for cars previously registerd in nz and older than 1991 for $180. you need to show proof of purchase with copy of yours and the previousl owner's driver licence. also proof that it has previously been registered in nz. the test is like a wof, but a bit harder on structural and rust repairs and if they find that there has been some you will need to get an engineers report for it. if you fail you get 20 days to bring it back.
  2. good idea with the new thread. can anybody offer advice for my situation: I bought my car and wrote up a contract, no change of ownership papers as it is not registered. the guy i bought it off was obviously the previous owner but he is not the registered owner. 1) i cannot turn in the plates as i am not the registered owner. 2) i need to show proof of how the car has come into my possession from the last registered owner in order to reregister the car - is there anyway i can turn in the plates on behalf? - can i go to the post office, find out the registered owner, and basically ask him to sign the car over to me, so i don’t have to make a paper trail of all the people who have owned in between me and the last registered owner?
  3. sounds awesome! but where could i get one out of? also, irs would be cool as it would mean that i could mount the engine with the chain almost vertical as the diff part wouldn't be moving just the half shafts. also, got any pics of that set up?
  4. yeah though about 'go kart' style system. just not sure how easy it would be to get a decent suspension set up something to look into tho. my aim is to do it as simply as possible, i figure that if i get a diff from a car or something, i can use the hand brake, brakes, suspension etc already on it. lsd would be nice too. heard about those boxes that change the drive direction, pretty scare having six speeds in reverse tho!!! i think they're pretty expensive. might try something with a grunty starter motor use the solinoid and put it somewhere on the drive line. have like a push button reverse, doesn't have to go fast.
  5. cool as, thanks for the offer, i fully will cos i'm going to need all the help i can get.
  6. decided to start up a thread after getting into too much discussion in another thread. basically i want to put a bike engine into a bambina. hopefully will start beginning of next year. have been think long and hard about how i am going to do it and will need to think heaps more about it. seen it done lots of different ways on the net, but i want it to look as stock as possible when finished, so if possible would like to keep the back seat. this in mind my plan is this: swap the IRS for a diff, talk of this here: //oldschool.co.nz/phpbb/viewtopic. ... sc&start=0 this is because the original half shafts are only rate for some crazy small amount of horse power. want to mount the engine sideways and chain drive a sprocket on the end of the diff. off center diff should give enough room for this, and the fact that it has a chain means that it would be really easy to play round with the ratios and get them right. will have to draw you guys a picture to make it a bit clearer. so if all goes to plan, the chain should be horizontal, and therefore could have some up and down movement of the diff without the chain coming off. there are other ways it can be done like a series of chains and axles, or bolting the engine output straight to the diff, but the one i saw like this had the engine in the passenger seat. lots of little things i'll need to figure out such as lack of reverse, was thinking a really low geared starter motor system. so sorry about all the reading, just trying to give you guys a good picture of what i want to do. sketches will come soon!!! would be keen to hear any comments/ideas/concerns with this idea, or if you have a different idea let me know, reason i like my idea is cos it would hopefully be the easiest build. chur.
  7. yeah i know a modern engine would put out more than 100, but my budget probably wont let me get one, also i want the whole bike so i can take the rev counter, ignition etc to make things easier, so whole bike if its modern will be expensive. would be keen for something like this http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing ... =120428684 puts out 106 horse at 10500 rpm. will start a new thread i think, going to need as much help/ input as i can get!
  8. want to put a bike engine into a bambina, most likely a 750 or similar. figured out a drive system that will need the diff to be off center. i'll put up some sketches and get some feedback on what you guys think.
  9. yeah, i know that lots of 4x4s have off center diffs, but if i used one of them i would have to cut each side anyway, so if i get standard diff and just shorten one side alot it will be nicely off center. was thinking too, if i took it to a engineering shop and got it cut and welded rather than resplined how much do you reakon it would cost?
  10. definitely will have to have it shortened to achieve an off center diff. just how i go about it will be the question. since it wont be taking huge horse power mite see if i can manage to weld it myself.
  11. cool, will start looking into it, so what say if i change the engine, gearbox, rear suspension, diff etc? same sort of deal, like what what you said, by the book etc, or do things start getting more complicated with these sort of mods?
  12. i wont be running huge horse power, probably close to 100, so doesn't need to be insanely strong. so what do you do if you do it your self? cut the housing, cut the axel, weld together, put housing back on and hope its straight???
  13. ah k, so do all that, and then he'll come check it out and tell you if its good enough or not. so is it usually only around 400 bucks or does it end up costing more if for example he has to keep coming back to tell you that your welds look like they where done by a blind man? and realistically how easy/ hard is it go get the cert? pretty much if it looks safe/ is safe, its good enough?
  14. wow, might be expensive. i'll have to do some more research. will explain my project later, but my idea requires the diff to be off center. so hopefully would just be shortening one of the axels by quite a bit and leaving the other one as is.
  15. will be asking lots of question on here soon, getting ready for my next project. so anyways can you shorten the axels on a diff, i.e to be fitted to a narrower car, how easy is this to do/ how much does it cost to take to an engineering shop? thanks
