  1. It was I that asked for a bed/couch space as well as doozi. We'll bring our own sleeping bags and pillows to make life a bit easier.
  2. Yeah today's check list. Wide open throttle runs to kihikihi to buy wet weathers, check. Will use plastic bags in my shoes I think. Typical top of the page. So here's a photo from the day.
  3. Done my 2nd tank of gas on the new bike and I got 210kms for 5L which has a 5.5L tank. So we are good to go, shouldn't need a Jerry can for this trip. Getting excited now.
  4. @63Ragtop looks like you got yourself some early bus wide fives. Slight different offset to beetle wide fives but will still work.
  5. Oh man, so excited for east cape now! 41 more sleeps and we are on!
  6. Oh don't get me wrong I enjoyed those roads last time on the vespa. But I also enjoyed the coast line on the twist and go with @Mop Head on the back racing all the ct's the 1st year. Ideally just like to be a tourist and go to tolaga bay wharf and a couple other spots and soak them up.
  7. Not to go against @johnnyfives pristine planing and mapping skills. i was thinking of just skipping the inland track on day two and heading down the coast for max relaxation and cruising. Is there a couple of others who might want to join me or I'm ok if everyone else wants to go dirt track inland as I'll just head that way as well.
  8. showing my interests in utepooling to wellington and riding bikes in the south island
  9. Yeah visited the local dump shop and they where giving it away.
  10. Man changing the theme and bringing the hype back in. Small motorcycle of sorts that I shull own has been secured. Max excitement.
  11. Accommodation sorted for brent myself and oldrx7. The excitement has really kicked in. Need to get me a giant condom like @Mop Head wears in the rain to keep me super dry. Also need to buy a motor bike so I can actually attend the event.
  12. @johnnyfive have you got couch/floor/spare bed space for two grown adults to crash at yours on the night before the main day? Chairs.
  13. hello and welcome all. its a sunday and im at work with no trains moving so lets get into this and give you guys the update you havent been waiting nor have been asking for. it was Saturday 2nd of July and time to get some shit done, time to strip the engine and rebuild it. i got sweet bugger all photos of this process as i was on a crunch for time. new crank proceeded to clean all the parts and put it all back together with the new crank. this is as far as we got as we didn't have the balance fan back from ATL balancing. while nothing was open on the Sunday i shot out to @Geophys place and got some welding done, we cut off the heat risers on the exhaust manifold so they wouldn't protruded thought the tin wear any more, and we modified the mustache bar to now fit the new oil pump on it. geophfey been skilled this is what it looked like before hand. we cut the engine mount off as it would interfer with the oil lines and this is what it looked like with it gone this is it on, you can now see the cb performance oil in and out pump in place and the lines interfering with the 3rd engine mount so with that all done and with shops now open on the monday, i picked up the alternator fan. here is a picture of it with added weight for balancing whacked the rest of it together. got a new peace of tin wear which doesn't have the holes cut out for the heat risers as well. looks a bunch nicer not having them in there. quick start up and we are good to go. next up we wait around for my gearbox to be built / finished, ended up getting a date and got @Leebo3 to pick that up for me. smashed down to his place on friday night with @bobby1930 and spun some yarns. box back at home and lets get this done. monday comes around and we are off to the vdubshoppe to smash this back together Gearbox in at 10:30 engine in at 11:30 time to do all the small things and now to put in the remote oil filter, here is a image of the filter bracket. drilled a couple of holes in the rear wheel arch/mud guard and bolted it down got the wrong type of hose and continued on my way fitted it all up. and finished my day like that. i lost my little red isolator key so shot to burnsco and brought another one and headed back on Tuesday. checked everything over and went for a drive around the block and i was stoked. 1st time i had driven it in 6 months so it was time to leave, packed up my crap and got on the road. made it out of town and tested the new expressway new diff gears go really well, this is just over 3200 rpm and then i noticed my oil light come on so i pulled over quickly to which i found my inlet oil line into the filter had come off and my engine was just pumping oil out onto the expressway at 110kph......... a phone call later and put the hose back on and tightened the hose clamp again we were back to the vdubshoppe the hose i felt was weeping at the fitting so i bit the bullet after trying different hose clamps to get a better clamping force and went with -8 AN fittings. the reason we didnt got with these to begin with was the vduphoppe didn't have a 3/8 bsp to -8 adapter in stock. he also said id have no issue as hes done it on other engines this way and i wanted to just get the bus going. so i found some adapters locally and got back into pulling the kombi back apart. now going AN fittings the mustache bar needed more clearance as the fittings where much bigger and touch it. ended up cutting it longer than this as i needed more clearance smashed it down with a hammer like bellow and well yeah cut it longer and then blazed it up with the welder smashed it back on and i still had little clearance so i ended up putting a 45 fitting straight from the pump. you can kinda see it here in this image. time to put the fittings on the lines, this is where i found out i had put the wrong hose in general on and put breather pipe on instead of the -8 i should have. rookie mistake from myself and not knowing what i was doing and also maybe a bit of mistake from the new parts person as well. so with the new hoses made up we smashed it back together and i went on my marry way again. to get home and see it was still leaking a little bit. out with the adjustable spanners and tightened up with fittings and done them fucken tight this time. so far I've used it for the last two days and i haven't seen anything like below from underneath it so far. should check to see if its got oil now that i think of it. but other than that shes going good, need to fine tune the shifter location and maybe try the bigger spacer the linkage kit comes with now my gearbox is mint, but 10/10 happy to be out driving again. thanks for tuning in and reading my shit yarns, hopefully see you all out and about. keep safe, your stupid vw owner xx
  14. Registered. Haven't got a bike but now I've got a deadline to sort one.
  15. All I could think of is the air going around the radiator instead of going into it. I know a fan can suck a lot of air but by blocking the sides off you force the air to be directed into the radiator. These parts circled below. If you have a shroud may pay to put some holes in it with rubber flaps that could open at max speed to allow more air flow throu it as well.
  16. never had any luck trying to find any local, i had no issue with amazon, paid extra to get it here faster. was legit
  17. Signed on dotted line. Leave form will be put in tonight. Excited.
  18. and hello again. engine and gearbox out of the kombi now. lets move houses. and man I'm lucky i lowered it. wouldn't have fit into our shed at home if it was still stock height. even with out the engine and gearbox in it i had to let the tires down and push it in. time to play with this windscreen that's been broken for some time. so a night shift and i pushed it out while i was waiting around and then the next day visited Bunnings to get some rust converter/killer. ended up going with quik rust converter/primer. masked that windscreen up and coated the hole windscreen surface with i think it was three layers of this in the end. it seeped through my masking tape which i wasn't over excited about. but ah well lest this has some coats on it. removed that masking tape as you can see and i got busy re masking it and getting it and ready to paint. shout out to uber eats and late night masking missions. shot to Bunnings and got the matching primer to the white paint i had here at home. can said dry time of an hour which was legit, quick scotch between coats and im pretty sure we ended up with about 6 layers of primer on it. filled in a few of those smaller pits from the rust eating away. time to slap some white on. and i used up the rest of my white i had in the can which was about 5 coats. got left 24 hours between coats and i was smart and painted it during the night (night shift) and it took a little bit more to dry. but im stoked to get a bunch of coats of protection on it all. time to slap a screen in. new screen and a new rubber later and we have the window in, the rubber was so dam soft. managed to rip it a couple of times which was less than ideal. but going off my previous windscreen life i will probably replace it before the end of the year. screen done and dusted and my little mate is super stoked to see her kombi out side. now I've gotta wait for my gearbox to get rebuilt and then ill rebuild my engine and put a new crank in it. till next time on adventures with Greg's crappy vws keep safe and enjoy playing with old cars bonus image of little mate looking for the engine

  21. Problem is I had all the tools out on the bench ready to go last couple of times. Since then we have moved and I've had to put them all way. Can't be to hard. Lest I know none of them had locktight on them haha
  22. Shes been a while now since the engine has been out, hopefully it's like muscle memory when she goes back in the hole.
  23. Also you may be wondering. Yeah I did do it up tight. Used this multipler tool to tighten it to tight.
