  1. Parent hood is slowing progress but im determined to get this done for the next toyota fest. motor came out and striped the firewall ready for paint.I ended up getting the car touched up as i had put a few scratches and stone chips in it .Ive since just got it back from the painters at it looks so fresh, the metallic paint just pops off the shiny clear coat. things to do now is reassemble the whole car and get it ready for cert.i need to either fix my flywheel or find an aftermarket one,if my factory one doesn't work out would a JUN lightened flywheel work for street use? its 1.6kg lighter. Only thing stopping the motor going back in is flywheel, bolts and a clutch setup. also found a good set of SSR F.5 that just need a repaint and widen out to 14x8 hopefully this Canterbury weather holds out for weekend work on the car

  2. after selling GP125 it was time to move on to the next project. so i picked this thing up yesterday! 1983 Yamaha SR250, fully road legal and ready to go. at an extremely sharp price it was hard to say no. the dude i bought it off had gone overseas and was chillin in storage, hasnt been used for 4 months so took a wee bit to start it and warm up. gave it a good run today and blew off the cobwebs, such a great ride being able to keep up with open road traffic. sits at 100km/h no troubles if the wind has nothing to say about it. Experiencing finer luxuries like electric start, 12v charging system and a neutral light are a delightful bonus. ' will be a slow build but i plan to tidy it up and turn it into a street tracker/brat style bike. theres a few minor things to get sorted, few gaffa tape side cover repairs and some questionable braking ability at the top of the list. already ordered tracker bars, small speedo and a megaphone muffler. will probs buy tiny battery and gut out the midsection for max lushness. also bought a flat seat with great optimism, but after looking at the frame it is gonna be a real mission to get it to fit nicely without taking to it with a grinder. ideally id like to put a rear hoop in and get it super tidy so we'll see how we go. pix for inspiration

  3. I'm back! had another jobs taking up all my spare time but that's out of the shed and I can forge on with Mine. in the interim, in no particular order I got some dobi springs and mk1 golf gas shocks, front of car bottoms out pretty bad when cornering and bumping. Probably doesn't have bump stops in there but may as well upgrade, they were cheap. Need to shorten the struts to accept the shorter golf shocks. nick the fab wizard at MFS has the manifolds and carbs to cobble together. I got Rob to spec up a cam and kelford ground it, gave stuff to ERS in tai tapu- head planed around a mil, he skimmed the block for free 'cause it looks good and the gasket will grip nice', and installed the cam bearings. brendon gave me a stack of rockers to go through and find a good one so I did, pulled it apart and cleaned up ready. picked engine up last nite so today I cleaned up the ports and casting marks, cleaned the head, lapped the valves, loaded the springs and put the rockers on. also cleaned and polished the crank, rehoned, cleaned out the block and galleries. i was in the mood to assemble it but a mate is keen to see how they go together so I'll hopefully do that this week.

  4. Grass has been getting a little long. so time to give it a trim in other news, just been making a few things stronger, chassis panhard mount. added some braces to lower chassis links on the rear. pedal box was flexing the firewall/wiper tray even tho i took in all 9 of the factory bolt holes. added another bracket back to the cross bar. and hung the brake light switch off it grass trails p/s cap is out in the paddock somewhere

  5. So, I thought i started a thread for this car but i cant find it anywhere - or even the other photos i had of it. I inherited this from my Grandad a few years back. He used to pick us up from school in it and when i went around and mowed the lawns (i was about 8-9 years old) id always drive it around the 1/4 acre section. Did my first "skids" on the lawn in this, much to Nana's disgust. "Janee" was grandads nickname so ive named it that. I was up in Hawkes Bay this last week and took a few pics of it again. From what i can gather and have been told its a '63 Mk1 Cortina Consul that was column shift until grandad (in his late 80's) couldn't shift it properly. Dad converted it to floor shift with an extra long gear stick which apparently helped. Dad says it has an Escort engine in it but there is a couple of "kent" blocks at the grandparents place in the shed. Its had more parking hits than tina turner due to grandad touch parking everywhere from getting it in and out of the shed to parking at the RSA. We've removed the front bench seat as it wasnt original and was poorly mounted - so will be on the hunt for a couple of bucket seats. Amazingly (bad news in a way) was that he and dad wrecked out a 4 door GT as parts for this (FFS guys you got it round the wrong way) but i have a bucket load of spare doors and bumpers etc which will come in handy. Plan is to load her up fully with all the spares and get it to CHCH, hopefully using a couple of relo jobs through work to move the trailer up there and back. Ill get it running, Rego and Wof and drive it. I want to leave the patina on it for now as thats how i remember it. Will get some decent non shed pics of it asap.

  6. Then half a packet of cable ties later, I've reassembled the pile of broken plastic that came with the bike back into the gauge shape of a legsheild then decided I'd push my luck and ended up getting it registered aswell! 1979 Suzuki 50 EASY AS Pictured in my Harley Davidson plate frame I picked up in Hawaii. Need to get a Smaller plate made as NZ plates are HUGE compared to US plates. and just for old times sake, Showed the FA that started this love affair some affection and fixed a broken wire and fitted up the leg sheild Felix gave me aaaageeees ago

  7. i did some hammering and glued in the front inside corner then made up and started gluing in the outside front corner.... then my welder went from being AWESOME to being gayyyyyyyyy. Must be new liner time as wire keeps getting stuck and it then wraps around the drive roller.. did it 3 times and i had a ragequit.

  11. everything ready to pour floors on Monday. the diagonal bit out the front is the extra thick part of the floor that goes over the main sewer line. 2017-06-16_03-25-27 by sheepers, on Flickr 2017-06-16_03-25-39 by sheepers, on Flickr 2017-06-16_03-25-47 by sheepers, on Flickr

  12. Motivation was definitely lacking this weekend and bugger all was done. telling my self it's to cold for epoxi to cure properly haha drew a crude wiring diagram. was going to incorporate it into the factory stuff but CBF with that shit storm, also means if I got to sell the setup it's all complete and can literally bolt into any 4cyl car. Picked up a fuse & relay box off Ali for 10-15 bucks from memory, seems well made. thermo switch for the rad for $7.76 think I've got some relays and fuses from a car a wrecked so that'll save some $ just need a fan and rad, maybe use the Aw11 one for extra free bonus. be sick to build the whole system for less then $500 fucking wheel bearings gone again. Going to get wheels rebalanced and a wheel alignment. If it happens again I'll haft to buy daily, piss' me off cause aside from that it's been a trooper of a daily

  15. Seems to be working pretty good so far. got some softer springs on the way for the front. as its sitting a bit high. Now the front works better than the rear, and has shown up a few issues back there. is a bit harsh going over stuff compared to the front. Have adjusted the top spring lock out, so it stays on the softer spring rate till later in the travel, which has made it a little better. have got a few more things i can tweak, but will likely have to remount the rears for bit more up travel and add hydro bumps, to work as well as the front. thats not gonna happen anytime soon.

  17. very happy today to discover/finally get around to test fitting, my modified dizzy, with the trigger wheel and pickup, from the old bike carbed 18r fits in the 18rgeu (although i sent both dizzy retainers off with the engines when i sold them!, the RG dizzy has a cast on retainer) but this means a bunch less work to do all over again, and i was secretly hoping that it would plug and play!

  23. Yeah I'll take the Skyline over and have a nosey. Probably won't be as jimmy jammed as the May event, that was more or less a flow on effect from holding the hotrod anniversary at the same place.

  24. So I got around to compression testing this thing which didn't quite go as planned. Long story short I wasn't able to get enough juice to it (via jumper leads from a running car) so it was pretty sluggish to turn over and it wasn't cranking fast enough to build decent compression (Putting my finger over an open glow plug hole was enough to slow it down haha). Would get zero on a cylinder, then try again one same cylinder and get like 200 then try again and get zero again. One take out was that all cylinders seemed to behave the same and no obvious signs of one being worse than the others. So that said have decided to commit to chucking it in and hope for the best. Watch this space.

  25. Forget world peace, solving the famines in Africa, and whatever bullshit woman say about how difficult child birth is...this my dear friends has to be the most difficult problem the world has faced! No...not that No that was easy, just slap it in the mill Bingo! Yup, an innocent looking little pull start. But it's not innocent, Satan had a lead role designing this system in the 1940's when he realised humans were getting tired of killing each other in WW2... so he cursed the world with this pull start mechanism, and the suffering continues to this day! 8 hours spent on this over two days trying to figure out how the fuck this pull start works!!!! 8 Fucking hours!!!! But it now works, and I'm exhausted...my brain hurts, my fingers are bleeding and I'm covered in carcinogenic grease from 1943 when this was last assembled. 8 hours!!!!

  26. Towers done. Paint isn't really the same colour, but i'm sure it will all blend in through the first mud hole Gotta weld a bend to the compressor housing to clear the tower. other than that everything seems to be fitting

  27. I got this golf lip for it, the valence I used had already had one on so I left the holes in when I painted it for this reason. it sits high, not hideous but I will lower it and see. That will change the angle too. i scrubbed clean and painted the sump yesterday

  28. Limit straps on may have an issue with inner guard clearance. fine when the suspension is fully compressed on both sides. but at full flex, have tyre to inner guard contact. because of where bumpstops are mounted. will likely never get this much travel,, so maybe a non issue. putting a rubber bumpstop on shock shaft, or cutting the inner guard some more will fix it, if it turns out to be a drama currently getting the outer towers sorted. passenger side almost ready for paint on bumps

  32. Boom. The power of time lapse internet! Complete whole floor pans but cut in half. ie down the length of the trans tunnel. Works out cheaper. Thinking about lifting the body off the frame now to fit the new floors and clean up the underside and chassis.

  33. Rebuilt the headlights today with mostly NOS parts. Should have who is going to complete the bodywork sorted in the next couple of weeks after the CMS fiasco.

  34. I have finished the pedal box and installed billet crank and water pump pulleys. The body work has ground to a complete halt after the owner of Custom Metal Shapers was banged up in jail for 2 years about a month ago. Pretty fucked off about the whole thing so I'm currently working on getting someone else to finish it. I was hoping to have had it just about on the road now however I can see it being another 12 months away at this rate. Bloody frustrating however it is was it is

  35. Previous owner said it had an oil leak from the sump gasket which had managed to get oil all through the engine bay, I took a gamble that the sump seal is fine and it was the main seal that was the culprit and flicking it everywhere so took it to bits. Getting the radiator out was a cunt due to the mount setup but one it was out of the way getting the front of the engine off was easy except for cracking the crank pulley bolt Gross and oil everywhere Winner winner chicken dinner! The seal was hard and worn out with little to no contact with the crank pulley to hold the oil back Got the front cover off and replaced the seal then gave the enginebay a hell of a degrease I wasnt sure if the EFI manifold was going to fit the engine bay/clear the seat but a rough line up where it would sit and measuring the most forward high point on its roughly the same dimensions as the current carb and manifold, only bit that might be difficult is air intake off the throttle body needing a 90 degree bend coming straight off it

  36. Got some time finally to do some work on the GT. Fitted the carb today and the air cleaner. Got the correct size fan belt so fitted that too. Got a whole pile of parts being zinc plated so once they come back will be able to do heaps. Some pics of progress and unsure on what steering wheel to use.

  37. So after a long weekend i shoulve ripped into this,i planned to but nothing happened other than pushing it outside for a wash.I have been in touch with the certifier in chch and told him that i would like to notch out the cross member,he has told me to go through the LVVTAs design approval process. So this weekend il be drawing up pictures of what i want to do and hopefully they come through and say i can do it.I have fitted the ms112 swaybar which is slightly longer than a ms65 one but it has the bend in it i need to clear the engine, also 16mm spacers needed to be made for it to line up.

  38. Ended up going back to the wrecker and raiding the last of the supersallon bits off the car .i now have a full factory black interior and various bits of more chrome.also scored another diff and housing which i will convert to disc brake and a estima diff that bolts straight in.My short shifter from oz turned up and reduces the shift by up to 50% looks and works great on the newly reconditioned w57.motor is now in the hole.just need to fab up some engine and gearbox mounts.sump misses the cross member and steering linkage but the front damper pulley is touching the sway bar.Am i aloud to cut and add in a new section?. ITBs clear everything which was my main concern, and shell be tight up where the radiator goes. Cube short shifter

  39. 6G72TT engine I picked up for $150 out of car and not going, told it had a bit of blow by in one cylinder, took to work and stripped down...found a bent rod and damaged piston, tis alright, bore should come up alright with a hone amd can get new piston and 2nd hand conrod for $80, not that im using that shit anymore. Coupla pics of Subie transaxle conversion stuff. Rear plate to close off rear unused part of trans. Adapter connects mainshaft of box to shaft that goes through it back to front diff, negates rear output and puts 100% of torque through to front diff. Rear engined EJ20T open wheeler.
