  2. It's a tight fit! just managed to find a super stumpy 3" tall K&N filter so hopefully that will turn up in a day or 2, got some of the exhaust pipe today but had to order in some 1.75" for the secondary pipes off the factory manifold and need to order a 2.5" oval straight through muffler from a different supplier tomorrow

  5. so i found these puppies..... need opinions, i was wanting dark coloured rims but these are here and look pretty pretty, and possibly quite reasonably priced. they are 19x9.5jj +38 they fit so flush on the front and only JUST rub on the inside but that's nothing a few washers can't fix.... there is also a set of 18x9jj +30 exactly the same there but i feel those wouldn't look as VIP. Just worried about the cost of tyres on 19s

  6. I've gone a bit bonkers buying wheels for this car. Anyway, the first 2 sets to arrive and undergo a restoration as below: IMG_5145 by SnoozinRichy, on Flickr 14x6.5 Work Equip 02 5 stud, quite uncommon but need a fair bit of work to bring back to their OG glory. IMG_5092 by SnoozinRichy, on Flickr The second consist of the 7" pair from a set I bought off thminiman, coupled with a 6.5" pair I recently got in from Japan. Not quite as much work but still some grot on them that will need addressing. Two more sets currently in Japan, just awaiting the next container delivery!

  7. this^ you'll have just as much/more fun in a mildish na setup. plus can beat down on it all day, without having to worry too much about breaking stuff. spend cash on handling!

  8. Sweet. If you want to go turbo it'll end up costing a bit as others have said - just in fittings etc. IMO N/A, low power and light weight is the best combination when you're getting started in motorsport - the biggest performance advantage is in seat time. You'll learn how to get the most out of your car N/A and can lay on more horsepower later if you decide to stick with the same car.

  10. Camber mod'ed the rear crossmember by using the factory toe "ecentric" bolts off the spare t series crossmember. worked mint. just had to change a bush. Have turbo feed line being made up tomorrow. Pick it up at 2. Got to sort out turbo drain still. Needs: 2 drive shaft hoops. cooler piping radiator mounted better and a couple fans. exhaust. suspension. plan on halfing the list this week before exhaust gets made next week. Progress..

  12. So, I bought this to keep my sedan company : Seems like early falcon utes are all the rage now. Actually been looking for ages as some of you might know. It ended up being the least rusty one I could find in my search over the last 10 months. Its actually really straight, the tray is in really great shape, no dents and still has the original wooden boards as well. It Has bit of a ratty look but I have toned it down a little since buying it. The metal gold flake is quite in your face but its kind of cool. I think I might paint the B pillar sides the same cream body colour though but keep the roof as it is. Im not sure about the pin striping or the gold seats but its one of those things the more you look at the more used to it you become. Gives it a bit of character I suppose! It has a XW 221 pre cross flow engine, BW35 auto with T bar floor shifter, headers, twin exhaust, XF radiator with twin electric fans, stock drum brakes and stock diff, Mercury Comet metal chrome dash surround, plus its lowered of course! I have swapped my steering wheel over, makes it a bit more roomy in the cabin as I am quite tall and these things are not renowned for there interior space! It drives pretty good, better than I thought it would ha-ha. I need to do a few more little things but for now its a good useable ute to have some fun in, plus it was already registered here in Victoria. That was actually the selling point as made it easy to get in my name, so pretty happy with that

  13. Why buy one old car when you can have two for twice the price? I had second thoughts buying another old car when the other is not even finished but meh, its had to be done. Plus how handy will it be chasing parts and picking up stuff from bunnings?!

  14. I'll be wasting money on the other little things that need to get sorted first, most people seem to like the fenders in person. It's at the end of my list of priorities, but still there.

  16. Didn't read the last few pages but I used s1 r7 inserts shortened 15mm in my 1200 sedan coilovers (same sleeve kit as you). Could put the sump bolt 30-40mm off the ground at minimum I think. If i shortened the leg more the sky/ground would be the limit.

  18. i know what you mean about heat killing tyres! i went through more than usual as well. i seen you stuck out in the paddock for awhile and carrying wheels out there. go a bit softer springs on the rear? might not have enough power then?! i kept catching up mid drift when i was following you, pre wall incident

  22. chopped spring seats off last night and have been hunting around for suitable shocks. the internet/chris cain says use n10 pulsar shock inserts but they are no longer available (well the specific part number is no longer made) however the dude was very help full and it looks liek early vw golf inserts will work sweet. they are ~100mm shorter overall and its all in the body (ie they retain pretty much factory travel). The only downside is the tube/shaft is 14mm as opposed to 12mm factory but I think this should just mean I have to drill out the top hats (or if I end up with camber plates, getting a suitable mount or whatever). Going to do a final measure up tonight to double check it will all work otherwise its all go! //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/33955-beavers-wuntwennywhy-coupe/page-16

  23. The altezza diff is junk. Not worth it. Will 1 wheel as soon as you try do anything exciting in it.

  24. Will most likely be F series 7.5" IRS. Factory turbo cresta's have the bigger 8" diff's The poverty spec x chassis sometimes came with Dumb T series IRS. Basicly look for one of these in the engine bay: And where it says axle thats where it will say "T or F" Edit: Also, Dont fuck the car. dont roll the rear guards with pipe or be a general knobcheese with it.. its a very rare car in nz..

  25. OK, I think I understand what I am getting myself into. ill mount it similar to the picture above, mostly because its quickest and easiest, if I get problems I can always change it

  28. I haven't really followed this all that much so this may be a completely irrelevant post, but when I worked for F&P appliances, they had a container they used to lug around the world with all the latest F&P shit built into a kitchen display. It literally had one entire side cut out so that an internal russian-doll like box could extend out once in place and (almost) double the size of a normal container. It was pretty trick. the wall along that side was basically glass windows that they put a few thin (non structural panels along when transporting, I saw it being lifted onto the truck once and fuck me did the thing flex. The windows still didn't break though. Iv'e always figured with these that wherever you put in windows etc it would be easiest to frame around it with like 50mm steel just to get a decent appearance and make the job of fitting the window easier. That'd put enough strength back in to be legit surely. Especially considering the containers are designed to be loaded up the wazoo to like 26 tonne or something. Even a fully lined one with furniture laid out etc wouldn't be much more than a couple of tonnes. I had a look for pictures of that thing, I might have even had some on my phone/computer but fiddle me silly if i know where they are now. Anyway theres a link to shit press pics here if you can get the idea. It might still be kicking around, it was only 3 or 4 years ago. http://envycollection.blogspot.co.nz/2011/06/jealous-much-fisher-and-paykel-display.html PS. I highly commend/respect your project and will watch with great interest.

  29. Yeah as it's a 2 piece design of light material it's not designed with boost in mind and considering the seal approx 20 years old on most of these engines they have proven themselves to be quite unhappy under even mild boost. Bobdylan, I'd suggest if you are interested in learning this stuff you will spend a lot of money along the way, but that's the same as any of the guys on here. Everyone has different ways of learning too and sometimes asking a question in your own way is the only way you'll do it. Just because someones asked the same question before, doesn't mean it's the last time it should/can be asked. I got mine like this: and sold it like this: I learnt a hell of a lot along the way.

  31. ^Yeah ok, turns out the heater was leaking, took 2 weeks till it spewed its guts on the mrs leg while giving it abit of a hoon...leaking heater core that is. Have fixed more things on this: Replaced most of the rear bushes with nolothane. Installed a new head unit, Alpine CDA-9887 andspeakers. Fixed a bunch of elctrical issues. One was that the front driving lights wouldnt go. Turned out to be earthed to the plastic bumper. Pretty lol. Lastly, picked up some steel wheels for the rear. 14" ROH centres welded into stepped 15" bands from Lee. They are 10" wide, but there is still a fair bit of rrom left. could run 12" but most of the increase would be on the back spacing, so not much gain to dish anyway. Now i just need to work out what to do on the front. May be able to fit 8" in the front. Theres not a hell of a alot of room though. Just need to keep an eye out for the some wheels with a similar centre, It looks like they never came out in 15" so will probably have to re-band some with stepped 15". Mite just roll 14s on the front for abit, see what its like. Wheels:

  37. If it aint broke, don't fix it! We are looking to make the most of the summer temperatures and daylight so are continuing with the beachside parkups and BYO feeds. Next meet is December 19th, 7pm at Shelly Bay. Meet up at the carpark area of the side of the road here https://www.google.co.nz/maps/preview#!data=!1m4!1m3!1d500!2d174.8206123!3d-41.2975097!2m1!1e3&fid=7 I guess the best bet for feeds will be Mirimar and then swing out to Shelly Bay. If people are interested it is a nice drive back the long way (continue all the way around the coast). See you there and as always, discussion/questions in here //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/33331-wellington-monthly-meet-7pm-3rd-thursday-of-the-month-discussion/page-51 We have also started planning/brainstorming a few ideas for weekend events for the new year and we will keep you posted.

  42. Got a wee bit of time out in the shed tonight got a few things done. Fitted up the flexplate spacer to run an older series 700R4 box to the LS1. Fit a spacer between the crank and flexplate and some longer bolts an the ls1 flexplate mounts direct up to the the torque converter on the 700R4. Bolted up no problems so that was good. Engine has been sitting for a while and had a bit of crap all over it, took to a couple of spots with the wire wheel on the drill and cleaned it up mint, going to get a air die grinder and the small bits off that to get in the nooks and crannies and clean up prior to paint. Had a heap of bits land last week so waiting for them to come out, also got a heap sitting in port in LA waiting to ship to NZ. Panelbeater is well underway, will get some progress photos on Friday when I head over to TGA. 700R4 VN SS Commodore Trans Flexplate spacer fitted up to the crank Factory LS1 flexplate fitted up to spacer Trans fitted up to engine Cleaned up bits on the block talking stuff http://oldschool.co....la/?hl=westpala
