Tuning a piggyback ECU, doing fault finding, or datalogging after a trackday or similar would be where it's most useful.

Could be useful for building up a basemap of sorts for a future ECU install, can see what the factory ECU is doing at various load/rpm conditions etc.

edit: I bet the guy just makes some cables up quickly, and didnt program the software...

I'm gonna do a little digging around to see if I can find what's used, might be $2 for the cable instead of $35 :P

I know the honda boys get really good results tuning their B16/18's that run on OBD1, but have never seen it done on a toyota... Always heard it was impossible, but I suppose it could work with 90's stuff?

You can't do it with a toyota, well some dude has but it is a pretty epic hack to get it working, the Honda stuff is different just buy a hondata setup etc and you are done. This would be most usefull for fault finding and thats about it/just use a scope & multimeter

Wonder if they make a tool for use on android phones.
Wouldnt be hard to make a cable with a mini usb plug.

edit: it seems theres plenty of obd2 apps available.

be cool if there was a cheap alternative especially as there are so any toyota loving OSers
