Just going to make up a wee thread here to share my other triumph of engineering with you oldschoolers.

Back in 2007 my Opel Calibra started giving me shit and tbh i was pretty sick of its antics so went out on the hunt for a new car.

Was walking past pit stop and heard something cool firing up - so went in to take a look and it was a flat 6 powered Legacy! Turns out it had just got into the country and was getting sorted out for a dealer. So i found the dealership and took the car for a hoon. Had always wanted a flat 6 as i didnt want twin turbo dramas.

So ended up with this;

It was a bit mushy but so damned comfortable. With 80,000kms on the clock - nothing was broken so i set about changing that.

After a year of driving it as auto - i converted it to manual - MASSIVE IMPROVEMENT. Then the factory struts started getting seriously mushy. I dont blame them as they had done 110,000km by this point and i quite often carry heavy gear in the car;

So decided to lower it using some Tein springs. That didnt go too well so i shelled out and got some adjustable struts for it. I also threw a couple of strut braces on at the same time and modified my lower arms for a bit more caster.

Now the ride was sorted i needed some bigger brakes up front to stop the epic fade on track. So fitted a set of 4pot calipers off an Impreza - this worked well.

Then i fecked around with the exhaust LOTS. Have had a billion different rear sections and mufflers fitted and have finally settled on one i like. Interestingly, I had a super loud canon on the back at one point and it made less power on the dyno than my more civilized multi chamber muffler...it was also illegally loud (only gets to about 4,500rpm in that vid);

Heres a small vid of Tui Brewery:
And heres an in car vid of me sliding it around manfeild in the wet:

She's done 180,000km now and is in need of a bit of a refresh. So my plan this winter is to pull the whole drivetrain out and engine out and do the following;

Powdercoat intake manifold
Clean up and degrease engine bay
Replace all rubber bushes in the rear diff hanger and gearbox mounts
Replace spark plugs and belts/idler bearings
Fit new gearbox with custom 5th gear for cruising
Fabricate a firewall brace for the brake/clutch cylinders
Fix rear bumper from my last motorsport incident
Wet'n'dry vac the interior and detail it decently
Maybe fit a Link ECU if funds can be aquired.

Your comments and suggestions welcome.

This sounds rather nice IRL. I'm amazed how well you can chuck this thing round, hows the 4wd vs hand brake work?? Also I think you should change the "BOXER 6" sticker to "N/A 6 BITCH!"

Theres a bit of a trick to it. You have to dab the brake to get the weight on the front, then with the clutch in you flick the handbrake. The viscous center diff takes a split second to figure out wtf is happening and during that time you drop the clutch with lots of power on (and this is why the twin turbo cars cant do it - no instant torque).

Then the thing goes round in circles :D
Once the center diff has gotten hot - it gets very hard to do. Especially with the seriously weak Subaru park brake.

Just fixed my super annoying hesitation problem. Had been trying to track it down for 6 months. As you advance on the throttle - there were 2 spots where the motor would have a momentary loss of power.

Turns out its the programming for the Auto trans. The ECU expects to receive a "Torque Cut" signal at certain points in the throttle travel to allow the torque converter clutch to unlock/lock or allow the gearbox to chop a cog.

Have unplugged the neutral switch from my gearbox so now the ECU behaves as if im in neutral all the time. I have no doubt this will cause some other issue - but i'll consider whether thats better or worse when the time comes. The only thing triggered by an "in gear" status that i could find was the idle up and off throttle injector shut down. But both of those events are also triggered by vehicle speed.....so I might just get away with this.

New gearbox going in tomorrow night along with new driveshaft, control arm bushes, gear linkage and shifter, pilot bearing, clutch master and slave cylinders. Will put up a pic of sweet mechanical carnage.

I have no idea, all i know is it took more than one launch to kill the other 2. Trying to decide what to do next. Sell and buy Euro accord is one option that tempts me.

5speed should definately withstand the power im putting out, 6speed would be overkill. Basically i just need to stop being a cheap cunt and actually pay good money. This box cost me $250 and the last one cost $300 and the one before that, the whole car only cost $200.

So I think its time to squirrel some money away, buy a 4.444 gearbox out of an STI and get it reconditioned with new bearings and shit by geartech. Then at the same time convert it to 4.111

To be fair, I always seem to kill bearings. Never stripped a gear or anything ludicrous. But one launch!!! Only one!! And it wasnt even off the rev limiter....I demand more than that from my mechanicals.

I'll have your tow wagon. Giz.

Giz your money/Accord and we have a deal
