Hi there. Here are some pictures etc of my Subaru Ute. An '81, the last year of the old styled subarus but the first with the 1800 innit.
Its not so much a project or build up, More of a, keep it on the road and maybe change a thing or two along the way.
I got it last year, it had done 64000km, and now its done 76000.
This is the newest picture.

paintwork looked like this this morning
Posted Image

really really rugged, matt as, colour would rub off on people and absorb dirt.
$30 at supercheap auto and a few hours later.
Posted Image
Posted Image
Posted Image
Posted Image

I was thinkin about pullin the front bumper at the same time, going bumperless. but the cunt who had it before me welded the bumper to the rusted subframe.
so rugged....

So I got another one.. Slightly newer... rusty, which sucks cause now that I've gotten it going. Its not too bad.
Best eighties paint scheme ever also :D

That rust goes all the way through.
Posted Image
brakes overheated or some shit on the way home, rear drum locked up, mate just thought i was being a dick so kept towing, 'moked up down the road for 'bout 150metres.
Runs now, seems to go well, will be good convoy adventure-mobile with the red and silver ones.

Here are a few more destruction pictures of the red one. "straightened" the front today. Which consisted of a wire rope, a power pole, and 4wd reverse burnouts.
pictures etc...
Posted Image

Posted Image
Remainders of numberplate.

Posted Image
old fan chewn radiator..

Posted Image
Bumper did that..

Posted Image
Hae look!

Posted Image

Still drives mostly straight. Kinda cool considering I'm pretty sure the front end moved about 100mm to the left.

No real update here, scraped through another warrent, Mechanically perfect, rust - a near fail.
Rust in the front of the deck/back of the cab, front of the sills, all of the deck, front chassis bits around bumper mounts.
Will need to employ the skills of someone handy with a welder...
Fixed one or two things lately tho, cooling fan works, wheel alignment is now within spec, toe was ~20mm out, and after cleaning up the anti dieseling solenoid it idles all the time.
Just fucks me right off about the rust, won't be able to fix that one up by myself.
GSR will be a worthy substitute for a few months/years perhaps.

Aaaaaannd The Wof has expired, No chance of getting another unless its REAL dodgy this time round. All quotes to get rust repaired to a possibly acceptable standard are in the $2kplus area, most hovering $4k plus for the most basic of basic
see highlighted areas with rust appearing... Pretty much anywhere where steel is joined/bent/painted/just everywhere below the windscreen/above it too.
Posted Image

trying to track down replacement panels, looking like so far that there are
A- none
B- rusty
C- just none.
Kinda unsure as what to do now.

Ok, So the good one is still stashed in a shed, and is still rather rusty and fucked. But no where near as rusty and fucked as the Red crashed one, which I recently stripped what was salvageable off and prepared for sending away to China. There are mild plans in the future to start work on the Brown one also. Cannot decide what the final product should be.

And here are a few pictures.
Posted Image
Inspiration perhaps? I'll see if I can get the good one this slammed.

Aiight.

So red one, yellow one, and White hatchback are all cubes now. And theres still a silver one thats returning to the earth slowly at a different location with more sea air.

Bought a green one last new years for reasons I'm not sure of...

Potentially has some bits I don't/rust cuts donor.

Fast forward to now, too long with nothing happening has passed.

So here is a car/tiny ute on a trailer.

How bad can it be you ask?

Link to the discussion I think.

So I'd like to think I can fix it, but first off, lets work out just how big of a job it is.

Progress so far today.

I'm going to try and do something every day, even if its fuck all.

Today I had 1/2 hour so cut out a hole here, and cut off a small section of double skinned stuff to find a larger hole.

IMG_20130508_173813.jpg

Might cut something/somewhere else tomorrow.

Ok, today I received some spot weld drill bits in the courier.

Prodded around and this came off unhappily.

IMG_20130509_153127.jpg

Then I spotted more rust so got carried away/I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT I'M DOING

I got 90% of LH towing bracket off, but I still haven't mastered removing spot welds. Shit be getting pretty munty. Will keep trying.

Got my dry ice in the courier today so cracked into that after work.

Obligatory underseal pictures.

So yeah, is bad, but not worse than I'd expected, at least now I can see it and start cutting things.

Will likely try attempt to unspotweld the bit the seats bolt to in order to get to the floor rust a bit easier.

Spent a bit more time on the front after work today.

Found more rot in a double skinned bit of rad support

IMG_20130513_172631.jpg

So cut it out.

IMG_20130513_173229.jpg

Finished removing LH towing bracket and cut out the rustiest bits from round there.

IMG_20130513_172243.jpg

Also cut out the same on the RH side

IMG_20130513_174834.jpg

IMG_20130513_175132.jpg

Might attack battery tray soon as its pretty fuzzy but solid still I hope.

Discussion.

Today I took the afternoon off and achieved not much.

Got half a sheet of .8 and half of 1.2. This should be more than enough for me to fuck it up multiple times over.

IMG_20130514_145049-1.jpg

Removed battery tray for tidying up and refitting, You can see how poor the rust proofing was @ assembly, no paint under here, just a quick splash of tectyl or similar.

IMG_20130514_142258.jpg

I think I can use this again with some agressive tidying up. I may patch some of the corresponding metal though as its pretty thin.

IMG_20130514_142312.jpg

Spent a few more minutes getting depressed further down the vehicle.

IMG_20130514_160129.jpg

Also got a bottle of CO2 so might try welding things soon.

I welded things!

A scummy repair, but I'm glad to have put something back into it finally. May this progress continue. 4sq inches at a time....

Rad support member.

Was this

Popped a spotweld or two (unintentionally) to get some space.
