P James
Discussion here! Open to all feedback. //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/47655-p-james-1984-gx61-eagle-mask-hard-top-discussion/ So, I bought this GX61 about 6 months ago, off a fella in Christchurch via Tardme. Thought i'd start a build thread. Very low owner, imported in 94, 115,000kms, auto, 1geu, fairly tidy inside and out.
P James
About 4 months of daily driving I decided I was sick of the boat spec. Got some front adjusties off Zeb, cut the rears, added sorter shocks. Also got a twin 1 3/4" tip added, from about the diff back. Still has the muffler for now as the auto drone with a straight pipe would be too much to handle.
P James
I then got bored of the steelies. Fairly quickly arranged a pair of SSR Formula Mesh from Japan (Thanks to Daniel Dietrich) 14x9 with a fairly weak offset, perfect for a daily. By the time they had arrived I also sourced a pair of 14x8 SSR MK1s, sent them away to Aidan at Pine Engineering to get refurbished.
P James
Was planning to buy some new 185/55 R14s but a cheap set of 185/60s came up so i grabbed them in the mean time. $80 for the set, couldnt really go wrong. Also picked up a Slit Spoiler fairly locally. Got them fitted once the MK1s were returned. Then got them on the car!
P James
I have about 80% of the manual conversion sorted, also have a 1GGEU in need of a rebuild. 9M of 1 1/2" stainless exhaust pipe waiting.
P James
Today I started playing with a panel to fill in between the tail lights. Made a foam mold and then used that to make a panel out of sheet metal. Still work to be done.
P James
Made some mounts for the number plate. Nearly finished the panel to fill in between the tail lights! (slit spoiler got damaged due to a fail driveway exit, so that's off being repaired). 9M of 1 1/2" stainless exhaust piping arrived today. And lastly, picked up my 1GGEU on Sunday. Run main bearings but I got it cheap. Will send the block away to get refreshed within the fortnight.
P James
Alright.. This is no longer a daily so work can finally begin. I had another pair of SSR Formula Mesh widened. (Thanks to Pine Engineering) These are 14x9 -18. They make my other pair look so much worse than they are haha. Also acquired a set of centre caps, have new SSR stickers coming for them too.
P James
225/40 and 195/45 Toyo T1Rs acquired.
P James
Toyos fitted. 225/40s are perfect in the rear, slight roll after I do the camber mod to the rear subframe and we should be good. Yeah.

P James
Progress has been slow.. How ever, I picked up this 150*** kms 1GGE last night, proof of and a video running prior to removal. Just waiting on the W55 to arrive and a bunch of parts from Toyota. Oh and I need to find a driveshaft still.. Also stripped down my first pair of 9s, polished, centres repainted and got new hardware, changed tyres to 185/55 too. Realistically ill never be low enough to pull off the T1r's / Wont be certifying it on the 9's anyway. Oh, and bought a $800 hack van, best car related decision ive made!
P James
Ive been pretty slack... But my engine/gearbox are in and ready to be wired up. Gearbox ended up being a W58 which is an added bonus. Anyone know any local (dunedin or around) auto sparkys interested in wiring it up?
P James
So im finally making finishing progress! Wiring is away getting done atm (Worked out easier / cheaper to send the looms to someone that's done the swap up North than find someone local) Just scored some brand new Trust headers fairly locally for cheap! (cheaper than through Yahoo anyway) Time to get it to the exhaust shop... Then fork out for BC's and it's ready for cert. Fun times.
P James
have put my A into G. Engine and box now mounted permanently
P James
Got a flange made to suit the Trust headers, 2 collectors and a single Chase resonator. Plan on going headers - 2 - 1 - resonator (under drives seat area) - 2 all the way back. All 1.5" stainless. Think ill put a couple of V band clamps at the end so I can swap in a muffler if need be. P James
Lists short, very short. Centre console was an off brown to my interior, wasnt happy with it, managed to find locate one the same colour locally (NZ) thanks to an RS fella. Accelerator cable was a C word. X6 and X7 mount differently through the firewall, couldnt get a twincam X6 one anywhere so ended up getting the firewall mounts swapped from my stock X6 cable onto a twincam X7 cable, works a treat. Wiring is near finished and will be back down with me soon! As soon as its running I have to sort out power steering pump location, sort belt, alloy scrape plates, few other minor bits and bobs. Theeeen just exhaust! It's all there would just rather it be running before I take it in. After it's running ill sort getting it a WoF before I get onto adjustable suspension! P James
Loom is back and nearly in! BCs have arrived and are off to Surfab tomorrow to get welded up. Old set of C type SSR MK3s are currently with Aidan at Pine Engineering getting turNed into something crazy. Exhaust and cert and I should be done, for the time being..
