im going to be putting a holden 202 and trimatic box in my vauxhall viscount until i can get a flexplate for the original engine.

the original gearbox is a 2 speed powerglide. id like to keep the column change but obviously the powerglide is 2 speed and the trimatic is 3. Is there any way i can still use the column change or will i have to use a floor shifter?

Holden red sixes (your 202 being one of them) actually came factory fitted with powerglide transmissions from the Holden factory.

It was the auto trans option prior to the trimatic being released.

You may be able to connect the powerglide currently in the car to the retrofitted 202 and keep all the existing linkages etc etc.

Might pay to ask around on some early Holden forums (EH, EJ, HD, HR Holden in particular) regarding powerglide to Holden six coupling.

Also, wouldn't it be easier, cheaper and make much more sense to just spend your time and effort tracking down the flexplate for the Vauxhall motor?

Putting a 202 into it is not very difficult as far as engine conversions go, but it's still a heap of work.

Ruins the originality/value by dropping that slug into it too.

Just get someone to make you a flexiplate, tiz not as difficult an exercise as repowering as said. I can recommend a great gear cutting engineer, who just did an epic job making a new ring gear and fixing a flogged out flywheel for me.

Because Vauxhall six > Holden six

Fact.

(Tried the club? I know their weirdos of the food in beard variety. but the Wellington branch just cleared out an estate of an epic Vauxhall hoarder...)
