This is it, in all its grossness, but under all the crap........

holiday_gn_400-10.jpg

hopefully will come something looking abit like this by Holiday Customs.

Dannys very boring looking W650 will be looking alot more aggressive, with slam stance and balloon tires.......

photo-26481.jpg

We've actually had both bikes for alittle while now, mine is currently striped to frame only (after mocking up wire wheels with drums front and rear, looks ten times better already) and taking it to a strippers today.

Dannys is coming along alot faster being a newer running clean doner, he's just put a set of firestone on and currently setting up the ride height

Have a bunch of photos of the progess that ill drip feed in over the next week or so

Cheers

Awesome dudes !!! Love your work as always ! And that BratStyle Japan w650 is so awesome !! Have you both still got your old bikes ?

Cheers man, Danny sold the blue GS to a mate of ours called Black White Tony, It had some coil issues that are now sorted and running really good, He's resprayed in white and "aged" it back and is going to put some vintage looking Castrol oil decals on it, should look really good when its all done, and nice that its stayed in the same circle of mates.  His GSX750 with the 1200 banbit motor was crached heaverly at manfeild a couple of months back, will up load some photos at some stage, guy riding it is all good stuffed his hands because of poor choose in gloves! but as a result, he now owns that bike. He's a good mate of our and is working on getting it rebuild, fixable but needs quite alot. Guess its good that that bike is still inthe circle aswell. just not the nicess way to go about it haha

And Ive still got the bobber, not selling that anytime soon, this new build is just more of a daily, long/er haul bike. can never have too many ay.

Anyways some more photos of mine from when i picked it up

Lol'd at nut spacer

400 is better than 250, torquey single will be good for hooning around on, I rode a GN250 once, got it as a loaner when my CB250RS was in the shop. It felt a bit gutless so I thought I was running out of gas, tank was nearly full, it was just gutless haha

We should have a mini swapmeat in Welly for bike stuff, I've got stuff which is of no use to me that someone else might find useful, especially if we are all building non standard shit.

^ yeah im enjoying your build thread, will be good when we have all these bikes finished, will have to T-up a ride.

Right so, Im not a fan of mag wheels, the bobber/ Kawasaki wheels im living with, there not toooo bad as far as mags go. But these Suzuki mags are yuck as fuck!

Over the years weve become really good mates with the guys at Boyle Kawasaki in wellington, they have help us out a shit tonne, and are always will to help us out.

So when i  told the guys what i was wanting to build and said i needed some wire wheels, Regan at Boyles got real into the idea as he has a similar idea for a build of his as well,

but instead of just doing a swap for wire wheels with disc he hooked me up with an early GN250 with drum brake front and rear.

P1010355_zpse9362340.jpg

One crashed GN250

I did some measuring a realised that the plan of just swapping the fork lowers over wasnt going to work as the fork tubes were smaller on the 250

P1010354_zps0ecf3144.jpg

So as he said, whats better than one dragon?..............Two dragons! haha

P1010356_zps9c253dad.jpg

This one had straight forks and true rims, but misses a few bits that the other one had

P1010357_zps59cba063.jpg

Some more messuring and it was looking good for a complete front end swap, forks streerer everything

P1010358_zps6eed0a24.jpg

P1010360_zps0f8f52b0.jpg

another good thing about the GN250 forks is they are already abit shorter, which will help with lowering as the 400 forks were so long i was worried they wouldnt lower nicely

P1010361_zps0be67af0.jpg

Fronts swapped, I didnt want the gn250s but they didnt want them not rolling hence the total swap

rubbing my hands together with anticipation to see what you make of this.

Those wire wheels made a huge difference to the look. I like the Kawasaki cast wheels, but only the Kawasaki cast wheels in that 70s era (Suzuki, Yammy, Honda all look pooze.)

Oright so got some photos of dannys bike,

P1010376_zps0cd58846.jpg

Hes got his tires fitted, Firestone Deluxe Champion 400-19 front and 450-18 rear, I think. Small head light and low rise bars

P1010377_zpsb8f37240.jpg

He's swapped the fork legs around so that the caliper is leading just for that old bike look

P1010378_zps180e03e4.jpg

New mufflers on aswel

P1010379_zps8df54ad2.jpg

Modern bike electric poohar will all be tucked away out of site

P1010381_zpsec244c92.jpg

Fitted a GN250 tank, this one was just for mock-up but has just got a brand new one for $80! Thats BRAND NEW, gotta love GN shit, so many learners riding them/crashing them making that shit cheaper

P1010382_zps9a5f479c.jpg

Ill get some nicer photos on my camera at some stage

P1010383_zps560c5622.jpg

Dannys abit further along and has started cutting up the frame, will get some more pics hopefully tonight

Im still waiting for a call form the sand blasters, might have to give them a call, once thats back i can do another mock up then start to cut and weld the rear hoop up

Got a few more photos of where Dannys up to.

Mainly just been get a few goodies in for overseas

P1010386_zps5c98db9d.jpg

One of which being this super sweet little electronic speedo. Its SO nicely made and looks the shit, tiny as hell WITH built in warning lights!............nice

P1010387_zps0e1fd2d0.jpg

An LED surply that jaycar would be stoked with, these were intended for dash warning lights, but im sure there will be a use for them.

P1010390_zps3af0b627.jpg

This is super sweet, not too sure where he got it, but great idea for an air cooled motor in traffic, just replaces the oil cap

P1010388_zps887a030c.jpg

Frame cut begins

P1010391_zps6b3c0077.jpg

so thats pretty much where Dannys at, at the moe

I gave the sand blasters a call today, and my frame was ready, wonder for how long it was sitting there, anyway $150 for that, which isnt bad, mate paid $180 at the same place

I offered cash and that got him pretty hard. But now thats back i can start on the frame, Ive tig welded up a few holes in the fuel tank and stripped all the crap off it back to bare steel.

will update that tomorrow maybe.

Cheers

Cleaned up my tank the other day, chipped off all the need-it that was init, and tig welded it up, ground up the welds this morning and will need another pass with the welder
but its looking awhole lot nicer
P1010401_zps586a989c.jpg

P1010402_zpsea2c28cb.jpg

Got the frame back and hacked the rear off just roughly for now and any tabs that i didnt need, the frame is really pitted, worse than what i first throught, but should be able to clean it up nice
Its going to be good old black anyway, which should hide the worst of it.
P1010403_zpsc6f37cc0.jpg

need to clean up the tabs i cut off, then a quick coat of primer and then i can do another mock up for setting ride height and the rear frame hop, need to get some tires sorted aswel

Cheers
