Road-trippin' - Across the USA

OK, so I'm doing a coast to coast and back roadie across the states in just over a month's time, for a month and a half.

There's a few other faggots coming along and we've got some stuff planned but I'm curious to see and hear what other people think is worth a geezy gander on the journey.

I'll be taking my camera(s), a gopro and a laptop to try keep a video log of some of it because otherwise I'll forget. I'll update it here at some stage.

So... lemme know your thoughts.

Oh yup. I wish I'd had a companion on my journey to help with the GoPro and general cameroid shit.

If you're heading east along the central states, try going via Death Valley/Yosemite/Tahoe, or take I-10 via the Desert Cities (with a side trip to the Salton Sea if you have time) if you're heading to AZ/NM/TX.

There are some amazing vistas out there. Grand Canyon is a must, too.

Las Vegas is so tacky it's actually amusing, and Hoover Dam is right next door (take Tom with you for some good insight).

Beyond that I'm actually not sure myself - have only really been to the western states.

Cheers man.

If memory serves (which is usually does not) we're rolling up to the flats for some salt lake skid watching, I can explain I'm from Invercargill and they'll be all "..and what?" Then further inland for some NHRA then further for some NASCAR, some other things, bits and bobs, over to the other side of it all, shenanigans, then roadie all the way back.

Strippers, blow, etc.

Sweet deal. If you're heading to Bonneville you should definitely stop in Vegas then have a geez at the Grand Canyon on the way up.

The other option is to PCH all the way from LA to the Bay Area, then Sacramento-Tahoe-Reno-Bonneville. Be warned, there is three tenths of fuckall between Reno and Bonneville (unless you like casinos).

Please try to get out to Gene Winfield's, google it up. It's the thing on my list I missed, and I'm pretty sure I'm gonna kick myself forever about that because he'll die soon, he's pushing 80.

If you can hit Pomona for 1 night on your way into LA, have dinner at http://www.cocopalmrestaurant.com/ you'll be treated, and eat like a king, then do the Wally Parks the next day, hung over, so you can slowly meander and drool over awesome, pioneering shit. http://www.museum.nhra.com/

So much OG drag/hot rod/ OS car club history.

The Barber museum in Birmingham Alabama (20mins drive from Talladega speedway) will blow your mind if you are into old bikes.

They also have a pretty sweet display of lotus formula one cars and some other bits and bobs.

And if you are on Route 66/I40 heading through Amarillo Tx, make sure you have some spray cans so you can graffiti the cadillacs.

I should actually send you a T-Shirt and a guy to hunt down on the Salt, he's an official every year and I owe him some beers.

I'm happy to try and deliver that but I can't make any promises.

Cheers or the rest of the insight too, and your blog posts, that's good squishy.

We stopped in and checked out Gene's shop last year, real nice guy, showed us round etc but it is quite a way out of the way.
