Popular Post mjrstar
So the trusty Triton has left the stable and been replaced with something with more blue oval appeal. I had been looking out for a tidy turbo coon ute for a while, i missed out on one at a dealership about a month ago and upped the anti since to make sure i secured one. I couldn't wait to bask in the glory of cheap plastics and poor build quality, coupled with low mileage diff whine. A dude in napier had one listed on auto trader (with no photos and a poor description) but it had potential so fast forward an e-mail and a couple of phone calls I was flying down on saturday having already organised insurance. The seller was very particular and had a mint indian motorcycle -clearly he knew how to look after his stuff.. The ute is an 2011 FG turbo with leather, and around 10 grand of goodies under the bonnet including plasmaman 1000hp intercooler kit with airbox and intake, process west surge tank and pump upgrade matched to a set of big daddy bosch injectors, 4 inch dump pipe and 5 in cat, battery re-location, high pressure wastegate actuator, and BOV upgrade. Matched with a very smooth custom transmission tune and of course re-tuned ECU map done at WRC developments in Napier. Apparently this combo is poking out around 350 wheel kw on pump gas with a reasonably conservative tune, what I found more impressive on the drive home was the millions of torque it has, it really is effortless for overtaking. cue rubbish cellphone pics Future plans include sorting out THE HOPELESS BRAKE PACKAGE ON THIS MISSILE followed by some nice stuff like the BOV plumbing which is a little untidy, do some reseach on how best to keep the front geometery from chewing tyres and possibly seeing if I can somehow tone down the induction roar, which is failry loud even below 1800rpm. No current plans for a 500kw plus tune at this stage as I don't think it would make the thing all that much faster on the road. Oh yeah also need to find it a towbar - as currently the evo will be on light towing duties.

MRWEST
nicely done, good work on getting rid of the triton those things are JUNK! That thing would be a handful!
mjrstar
The Triton was good to me, i brought it at 3 years old, did a bunch of k's in the 2 1/2 years I owned it (had no problems with it) and then sold it for 3 grand less than I paid for it, so less than $1500 / year depreciation.. Good luck doing that with most 3 year old vehicles. aah yeah I'm considering some method to tone down the boost for when my wife has to drive the ute. 0R10N
Good job, Matt. I know yours is auto but have always wondered what a well-tuned manual one would go like. The clappers, I guess!

mjrstar
The manual i think would be hard work, especiallly with a decent twin plate clutch (which would be a must). The manual would be better with the v8 i reckon. Sadly I went for a run in my evo on Friday and put my foot down at 80kph, I thought the turbo was broken - but alas it just needs more power / torque to keep up with the ute.

mjrstar
I like how these FG's have the hugest rear wheel arches. yeah it would comfortably swallow a 10 inch wide rim with a 295 I'd say.
